  25. I can't find the picture I originally wanted to use, so this will have to do.
  26.
  27. Cue another Depravity fan story, in which Baxter's bad habit gets him into more trouble than he could have imagined.
  28.
  29. -
  30.
  31. >Baxter wasn't sure what was wrong with him
  32. >He thought himself a logical man
  33. >A man of science. A man of careful consideration, not irrational compulsions
  34. >Why then, was he sitting in a dark room, arms wrapped around his own torso, attempting to emulate the feeling of being hugged?
  35. >He knew why, if only at the most basic level
  36. >He couldn't get the image of The Princess and her consort out of his head
  37. >The gentle smile, the soft-spoken words of encouragement, the long, chaste embrace crowned with a series of head pats.
  38. >It was all so repulsive
  39. >It had been burned into his mind, its twisted image intruding upon every train of rational thought
  40. >But why? Really, WHY?
  41. >Why did he continue to dwell on sights that had brought him to his knees and reduced him to inarticulate sobs?
  42. >It defied all logic
  43. >He should be taking steps to block the incident out, to erase it from his memory
  44. >Instead it was playing on and endless loop in his mind's eye
  45. -
  46. >Even as he contemplated the absurdity of the exercise, he found himself gently resting his hand on his own shoulder
  47. >That was something Charlie had been doing more often, to more and more demons as of late
  48. >It wasn't until he'd witnessed the incident between her and Vaggie that he'd realized just what it could lead to
  49. >Such a gross display of affection, in complete violation of even the most basic decontamination procedures any sensible person would know to follow!
  50. >Baxter caught himself attempting to pat his own back and shook his head in irritation
  51. >This was not productive
  52. >His arms bundled up around his chest again
  53.
  54. >The piscine demon drew his mouth into a thin line
  55. >His method was inadequate
  56. >The act of hugging, by its nature, required two distinct, detached masses
  57. >Even if he could find a way to position his arms around himself in the proper position, the lack of any substantial object in their midst would render the act a pale simulacrum of the real thing
  58. >Adding another participant to the experiment was out of the question, he'd be quite content to keep the results of his research private
  59. >He turned his attention to the assortment of throw pillows that occupied much of the sofa-space around him
  60. >A mismatched set as to be expected of a resource-strapped operation like The Hotel
  61. >The lack of uniformity had irritated him to no end when he'd first checked in
  62. >Now though, it looked as though it could suit his purpose
  63. >He reached out and selected one that was about the same size as he was
  64. >It was nothing more than curiosity. Nothing to fret about. He was a scientist, curiosity was a natural part of him, no matter how morbid it could be
  65. >He'd scratch that itch, and scratch it properly, and then he could file away what he'd learned in his 'No Practical Application' data folder and start acting like a rational demon again
  66. >No one else had to know
  67. -
  68. >Baxter drew the pillow to his chest and gave it a squeeze
  69. >He drew a deep breath and let it out slowly
  70. >Well, that was that
  71. >A disappointment on the whole, really
  72. >Hardly anything to remark upon
  73. >Yes, yes. Up and down, left and right, front and back, a wholly unremarkable occurrence
  74.
  75. >He was still clinging to the pillow some time later
  76. >At some point, he slumped over on his side
  77. >He wasn't particularly enjoying himself, no
  78. >He'd simply begun to realize that he felt, well, less stressed. Less stressed than he had in a while.
  79. >Simple logic dictated that, such an effect being desirable, whatever process was producing it should be allowed to continue
  80. >Therefore, no deviation in behavior was called for.
  81. >In fact, it would likely be counterproductive, even if what he was doing right now wasn't necessarily related to the reduction in tension he was feeling
  82. -
  83. >A yawn crept up from within him
  84. >Alone as he was, he didn't bother to stifle it
  85. >He felt as though he might actually be able to doze off
  86. >He hadn't slept particularly well in...
  87. >Well
  88. >Who knew?
  89. >He pushed his goggles up out of his eyes, lest he end up on top of them and wake up to an unwelcome outline pressed into his skin
  90. >Shifting slightly to find a better position, he breathed out and allowed the heavy cloud of sleep to begin settling over him
  91. >It was most welcome, after so long without being able to sleep through the night
  92.
  93. >As he drifted off, he was vaguely aware of the opening and shutting of a door
  94. >Foot steps
  95. >A feminine voice, muffled by the walls
  96. >That all meant something...
  97. >Something...........
  98. >Something BAD
  99. >Baxter bolted upright, now painfully awake and alert, just in time for someone to flick on the lights
  100. >"Oh my~"
  101. -
  102. >Baxter quickly pushed the pillow he'd been hugging as far away from himself as he could
  103. >It was a pointless effort
  104. >He'd been caught, by the worst demon in all of hell who could have possibly caught him
  105.
  106. >"Am I interrupting something?"
  107. >Charlie brought a delicate, black-nailed hand up to her mouth to stifle a giggle
  108. >Baxter's mouth on the other hand remained uncovered, flapping open and closed uselessly as his mind raced
  109. >There had to be SOMETHING he could say, some excuse he could offer for the shameful state he'd just been seen in
  110. >Not that Charlie seemed to be interested in hearing it
  111. >She was already beside him on the couch, wearing a playful, sugar-sweet smile
  112. >Curse it all, how could she move so fast?!
  113. >"Is someone feeling a little lonely?"
  114. >A shudder ran through him.
  115. >That voice. So syrupy. Like caramel.
  116. >He tried to slide away from her, careful to avoid eye contact. He'd long suspected that her frequent success in sating her bizarre desires might be related to some sort of transfixative ability she held over her victims
  117. >The light touch of her hand on his shoulder stopped him dead in his tracks
  118. >She was
  119. >So
  120. >Damn
  121. >Warm
  122. >There was no doubt, she had the power to paralyze, but it had nothing to do with her gaze
  123. >"Hey"
  124. >The demoness spoke softly, as if she feared breath alone might break him, slowly closing in as she did so
  125. >"I'm sure it can be kind of embarrassing to ask, but..."
  126. >Baxter's stomach turned
  127. >"...please remember, I'm always available if you need a hug, 'kay?"
  128. >Baxter tried to scream as he felt Charlie's arms envelope him, but it caught in his throat.
  129. -
  130. >no no No NO NO
  131. >Too close
  132. >Far too close
  133. >He had no idea where she'd been, what she'd been doing
  134. >Contaminated
  135. >She was CONTAMINATED
  136. >She needed to be kept away from him. FAR AWAY, until he could be sure-
  137. >He drew a breath, trying to invigorate himself to escape
  138. >He ended up with a lungful of Charlie's scent instead
  139. >Apple blossoms
  140. >It was as if he were standing in the midst of a vast orchard at the onset of the season.
  141. >He began to relax
  142. >Not purely of his own will, it was simply too exhausting to keep every muscle in his body under such tension for so long
  143. >The Princess seemed to take this as an invitation for more
  144. >The tightness of her embrace slackened and the diminutive demon felt himself being delicately re-positioned
  145. >His chin came to rest on her shoulder, where the edges of her silken locks could tickle at him as she continued to run her hand over her back.
  146. >He could hear her cooing to him, but his mind was in such a haze that he had trouble keeping his eyes open, let alone focusing on whatever she was saying.
  147. >That was of course, until a second voice cut in.
  148. -
  149. >"Well, well, aren't we looking cozy?"
  150. >Baxter started and strained to look toward the source of the interruption
  151. >He knew that voice
  152.
  153. >Vaggie stood a short distance away, arms loosely folded under her chest
  154. >The Princess's full-time paramour, ready to take up the mantle of ruthless bodyguard at a moment's notice
  155. >Baxter had seen her get angry
  156. >Seen the consequences those who aroused her anger faced
  157. >And now she'd caught him in the arms of her lover
  158. >Yet...she didn't look angry
  159. >She looked.....amused?
  160. >Yes. Amused. But not the sort of light amusement one might regard a clown or a comedic showman with
  161. >More the amusement of a cat who'd happened upon a sparrow with a broken wing
  162. -
  163. >"Is there room for one more?"
  164. >Oh no.
  165. >Baxter felt panic begin to rise in him again.
  166. >"Of course!"
  167. >He couldn't handle this. Being hugged by a single person after all this time had already left him light-headed and weak-kneed
  168. >He tried to protest as Vaggie settled in on the opposite side of him from Charlie, but his voice seemed to have been lost entirely
  169. >Charlie never let go of him, leaving him to watch helplessly as the ashen-skinned moth demon scooted toward them both
  170. >There was something...wicked about the way she sidled up
  171. >Charlie, for what it was worth, seemed so earnest and genuine in her twisted behavior
  172. >This one though, this one knew exactly what she was doing
  173. >And she loved it
  174. >He tried to shrink away as she reached for him, but there was nowhere to go but deeper into Charlie's embrace
  175. -
  176. >Vaggie threw her arms around the both of them
  177. >Baxter found himself pinned in between the overly-affectionate Princess and her cruelly-affectionate partner
  178. >His head had somehow ended up tucked beneath Charlie's chin
  179. >From behind, Vaggie found just the right way to situate herself so that she could rest her own chin on his shoulder, pressing her cheek against his.
  180. >Looking askance into her good eye, he tell how delighted she was with the whole situation.
  181. >The few seconds he had to meet her gaze told him all he needed to know
  182. >She closed her eye almost as quickly as the gravity of the situation began to weigh down on him
  183. >Then she hummed contentedly, so loud he could feel it resonating in him
  184. >He wasn't sure what was happening until he felt an infernally warm hand rake lightly across his head
  185. >Charlie was patting both of them
  186. >One hand tangled up in Vaggie's hair, the other stroking his head
  187. >This was too much
  188. >All of it, just too much
  189. >A gloved hand came to rest on the back of his neck
  190. >It started scratching, working its way upward, rubbing at his scalp, moving quickly to attack any spot that Charlie's petting missed
  191. >Baxter fainted.
  192. -
  193. >Vaggie contemplated the blue-grey visaged demon whose head rested in her lap
  194. >Baxter actually looked rather peaceful now
  195. >Charlie had encouraged her to stay and keep him company some time after he'd 'nodded off'
  196. >She had business of some sort to attend to, but there was no reason the two of them couldn't continue enjoying their cuddling session
  197. >She was quite happy to oblige
  198. >This was rather different from what she'd previously done to Angel Dust
  199. >Whereas Angel was warm, Baxter was cold
  200. >Not unpleasantly cold, mind you, more like a refreshing kiss of wintergreen
  201. >Angel was fluffy, but Baxter was smooth and glossy
  202. >So much so that she'd opted to draw off her gloves and set them aside so she could properly appreciate the feeling of his scales beneath her fingers
  203. >Lastly, Angel towered over her. Baxter on the other hand, was one of the only demons she'd met whom she had an advantage in height over
  204. >While there was a certain satisfaction in having a larger, more dangerous demon helpless in her grasp, there was something more relaxing about this.
  205. -
  206. >Baxter began to stir
  207. >He seemed confused and disoriented at first, blinking the sleep from his eyes and turning his head this way and that
  208. >His eyes suddenly widened into saucers as the realization of where he was and who he was with hit him
  209. >Vaggie met his terrified gaze and placed a hand on his chest before he could try to sit up, fixing him with a look that said "No, no, no, you're not going anywhere"
  210. >Baxter breathed a heavy sigh
  211. >She could feel the tension melt out of him as she continued to pat his head
  212. >Well, mostly. He was still a bit restless, eyes darting to-and-fro as he bit at his bottom lip
  213. >She reached down and gently placed a single finger on the bridge of his nose
  214. >"Boop"
  215. >She giggled, the bird song-y one she'd been working on, as a blush crept up the anglerfish demon's face
  216. >His lure wagged, drawing her attention. She'd been curious about it, but too swept up in the thrill of a group hug to give it proper notice.
  217. >She bumped at it as lightly as she could, like a curious cat noticing a loose thread
  218. >Baxter's blush grew deeper, but he didn't flinch
  219. >She hadn't caused him any pain then. That was good. Something to explore for future cuddling
  220. >For now though, she was content to cup his chin and pet him until the thrill of conquest finally faded
  221. -
  222. >Nifty watched the duo in silence, careful not to poke her head out too far
  223. >She felt a pang of guilt at her voyeuristic behavior, but also a twinge of jealousy
  224. >She rather liked Baxter
  225. >He was handsome, well spoken, and, well....
  226. >The tiny demon put a hand to her cheek as she felt a blush taint it
  227. >He was just the right height that she could kiss him with no trouble if she really felt like it
  228. >Even so, she didn't consider what had just transpired a loss
  229. >Baxy had let both Charlie and Vaggie hug him, quite extensively
  230. >He could easily stand up and leave even now, Vaggie wouldn't have stopped him
  231. >But he was still resting in her lap, letting her pet him
  232. >So that meant he was amenable to hugs, right?
  233. >Sooooooo, perhaps, if she played her cards right, she could get a hug too?
  234.
  235. and that's a wrap
