Not just shy, really shy. Most of her classmates haven't even heard her voice because she's just that reluctant to talk. If you ask her a question, she'll most likely nod or shake her head. She's also really soft so when she talks, it's hard to hear her.

❚ BACKGROUND : Jang Sumin was born in a family consisting of her mother, father and older brother named Jang Minhyuk. Her mother and father often fought which was why they decided to get a divorce. Minhyuk and Sumin were close and loved each other very much, but because of their parents' divorce, they got separated. Minhyuk followed their father and Sumin followed their mother. Sumin wasn't allowed to complain, because her mother would hit her if she did. Everytime Sumin mentioned her brother, her mother would hit her and tell her to shut up, calling her brother a betrayer for choosing to follow their father. Soon, sumin's mother remarried and there were two new additions to the family ; her step father and older step brother. Her older step brother treated her well and was kind to her, but she wasn't very fond of him because no one could replace her biological brother. Her step father on the other hand, didn't like her. He would hit her for everything she did and would try to find fault in her. Her step brother was too afraid to defend her so he didn't do anything and obeyed whatever his father said. Her mother didn't defend her either, and it's not like she couldn't, it's because she didn't want to. In her eyes, Sumin was her biological father's child and her mother didn't want to have anything to do with Sumin's biological father. Whenever Sumin tried to talk back, she'd get hit even harder, she learnt that it was better to stay quiet. Home was hell, and school wasn't any better.

She was known by her class as the "loner" , "nerd" and "teacher's pet" because the teachers were fond of her and she studied hard. She was often bullied by the school bullies. It was physically bullying at home and verbal bullying at school. No one dared to stand up for her, she didn't dare to stand up for herself as well. Whatever she said would get her into trouble. No one befriended her, in fear that they would become a target of the bullies as well. She was alone.

However, there was something that would take her mind away from all the pain, and that something was dancing. Dancing allowed her to release the built up stress, it was a way to pour out all her emotions. Dancing also empowered her, she felt a hundred times more confident and the usual shy and soft girl would turn into a confident and strong girl. Her aura completely changed when she's dancing. She didnt want to tell anyone she liked dancing in fear of having it taken away from her, so she kept to herself and would dance in her own room when everyone is sleeping or busy.

Jeno only knew when he was passing by Sumin's table and her phone lit up due to the notification from the app.
