  3. Show/Hide SOMEONE IS TRYING TO SHUT DOWN CONCEN! - Posted: 25-Oct-12 By: FastTadpole
  4.
  5. Shane Johns aka Epinnoia has levied an assault on a community of thousands whose server admin won't take his suggestions, namely ConCen.org.
  6.
  7. Shane Johns has shut down our PayPal account with his actions. He has contacted our old server and is now threatening to do the same with our new server. This needs to be put to a halt immediately; this needs to be defended against by the ConCen community at large to preserve its existence. Time is of the essence. Suggestions welcome. Action encouraged.
  8.
  9. Further information and an invite to discussion on this debacle of vengeance and very real threats and actions levied against us are available on our public forum here:
  10. His latest emails
  11. The thread which started it all
  12. His first threatening emails
  13. More threatening emails
  14.
  15. Update: He is now threatening to get the FBI involved, and has already contacted them for a preliminary exchange.\

  140.
  141. Consider this logic -- it seems pretty straight forward to me...
  142.
  143. You could shut down the site, or pass control to someone else.
  144.
  145. OR
  146.
  147. You could remove every copyrighted file that's on the tracker, and hope
  148. that the community continues to fund your business venture in order to
  149. receive non-copyrighted material and participate in the forum.
  150.
  151. OR
  152.
  153. You can wait until I write every copyright holder I can locate, and they
  154. or their publishers shut you down with PayPal and/or your ISP. Which
  155. would leave you in the same position as the previous option. I suppose
  156. it would buy you some time and some enjoyment knowing that you caused me
  157. to send out so many emails and/or telephone calls. But in exchange for
  158. that enjoyment, you run the risk of being charged tens of thousands of
  159. dollars by PayPal for subjecting them to possible litigation. As I
  160. remember, wasn't it something like $20k per violation?
  161.
  162. Rest assured, however, I will follow through with this. I already have
  163. the letter written -- and all I have to do is change the specifics of
  164. the tracker link and the copyright holder's name. I'd say maybe a
  165. couple minutes per letter, tops. So one way or another, YOU will not be
  166. operating the ConCen website with illegal files on it. PERIOD. If you
  167. think you're not in any legal/financial jeopardy, and you think that the
  168. members will continue to fund your web hosting business without the
  169. copyrighted files being available, go ahead....do nothing.
  170.
  171. If by some slim chance you were to pass control of the site to someone
  172. else, I _*might*_ be willing to tell you which copyright holders I have
  173. already notified, so that you might remove their files before they bring
  174. their attorneys into it... At this point, however, I would much prefer
  175. to see you hit with some hefty fines. =]
