  1. The Ravana system is a relative galactic backwater. It has full Omninet access, but due to its colonial history it is relatively far out from the nearest jump point. It is dominated by a capitalistic society; while there is no famine or homelessness, there is a definite difference in quality of life between the wealthy and the non-wealthy. In part due to its relative isolation, Ravana enjoys peace and safety; constructor technology and advanced automated agriculture provide for its needs, and it is too far off the beaten path to be of particular interest to the corprostates.
  2. The problems of interstellar travel are unusually exaggerated in Ravana, but cause problems for military forces galaxy-wide. Due to the limitations of lightspeed travel between jump points, even the fastest-deploying specialists from out of system will take months to arrive, and maintaining top-notch forces in every system where a corprostate operates is prohibitively resource-intensive. Yaksha PHC aims to change that. They have dramatically improved on traditional full-subjectivity Omninet interfaces, normally used for virtual worlds and tourism, to allow their trained contractors to operate in combat at full capacity remotely from their headquarters in Lankapura. The service is new and revolutionary, the technology involved a corporate secret, and you were in the first or second wave of trainees, now ready to begin deployment. The virtual training was intensive, and you were selected for talent and potential; you should be a notch above the typical soldiers found out in the field, and Yaksha PHC can immediately "deploy" you anywhere that constructors are available to produce your frames and proxyforms.
  3. You live in Lankapura, a massive city and the primary population center of the planet Lanka. You cannot afford to live in the nicest parts of Lankapura, although fairly pleasant company-funded apartments are available. You definitely can't afford a ticket out of Ravana. Yaksha PHC is putting a lot of manna on the line for this venture, though, and if you're successful enough as part of their remote Lancer squadron, you might be able to work your way up to a serious pay grade.
  4. A lesser form of the full-subjectivity technology used for your job is ubiquitous for recreation and business in Ravana, either in detailed virtual Omninet worlds or, at a higher price, using holographically-masked proxyforms to enjoy tourism on distant worlds. Recreational-grade systems are massively insufficient to allow for a Lancer to fight at anything like their full capacity; Yaksha's technology is the cutting edge.

  6. Perhaps you were born in Lankapura, or in one of the agricultural settlements elsewhere on Lanka. Perhaps you came here from elsewhere in the Ravana system looking for opportunity in the megacity, or even from out-of-system. Perhaps you're not even sure; that happens sometimes in these parts. Don't worry about it too much. You're here now and Yaksha will take good care of you.

  9. You are license level 0 to begin with, but early advancement will be quick. You have initial access to all GMS-license frames and equipment; other licenses will be available as normal. The Empath and Black Thumb talents are unavailable. Personal private ownership of NHPs is strongly restricted in Ravana; the Technophile talent is available but may cause problems for your character. Narrative-play sessions will either take place in Lankapura or via your proxyforms at the deployment site. Pilot gear on your character sheet is presumed to be equipment requisitioned for your proxyform's deployment, but you may own the equivalent materiel in Lankapura if you like. The implants to your real body required for your job are equivalent to a subjectivity enhancement suite; if you take one as pilot gear, it means your proxyforms will also be equipped with one to interface you with on-site systems.
