- Character Pains Retrospective Part 1: The Negative Backlash
- Intro and disclaimers:
- I wanted to get this off of my chest as soon as I can in this retrospective; mainly for getting all of the negative memories and feeling out of the way and so this gimmick can go out on a positive note. I would that I have a lot to say about this matter and things will get intense in places, so if you feel unconformable in what I am about to say and discuss, please stop reading this part of the retrospective and go the part 2 when it comes out. Without further ado, let's talk about the "drama" that went down with this account.
- My thoughts on TLOU2:
- Seeing as though this gimmick account is based off of a meme on a game that got a lot of controversy surrounding it and the way I have been meming on it makes you think I hate the game right? I don't! I have no strong feeling on The Last of Us 2 in the first place as I never even played the game to begin with. The only knowledge I have apart from the meme is Angry Joe's review on it and Pewdiepie's full playthrough. Other then that I have no dislike or like for the game regardless of what goes on with the account; it was meant to be an account that should have be taken this seriously as it is a gimmick account after all. If you are someone that likes the game, I don't fully hate you for it and nobody should be judging you for your opinion. I know, that seems to be the big problem with Twitter to begin with as it seems like everyday people has to hate on someone because they have a different belief then one another. I will talk about this more in the next segment, but its not worth anyone's time to go out of there way to cancel a person for a video game that they strongly support.
- The Stans and the Harassment:
- Okay, now for the real negative and here is where the trigger warning comes. First of all, I don't want to come out as someone that is a toxic person. I am saying that any post I have made on the account should not be taken to a degree of seriousness. Its not health for me or anyone to engage in a social behavior to cancel someone over something this small. I would say this harassment started ever since the gimmick account got made, but I just continued to either not look at the replies or just pay attention to this negativity. Regardless I think this really started to get ugly when The Last of Us 2 won game of the year at the Game Awards, now the whole deal with that being rigged I won't get into, but this is when people really thought that I made this account to shit on the game. Like I said, I didn't, I just thought the "Name a Character that went through more pain than her..." meme would be funny with a gimmick account. I admit to making sarcastic remarks about the meme, Ellie, and/or the game itself, but I tried to not go an extra mile to hating on anyone. I said this already but I didn't pay to much attention to the replies that often, and I never respond to any hateful messages in dms. However, things got a little to real for me as the stans that form around the game came on my personal account (@Murphy0749) and started to reply to tweet, not even related to the gimmick account btw, say how I am sexest, a hater, a nobody, and of coarse they say slurs that are worth breaking Twitter TOS. I wanna say that at the time all of this happened that I didn't handled it that well as I ended up doing the worse action you could do and I fed the troll buy retweet it using the gimmick account. It was for sure felt like I was in an uncontrollable state for me to be in and I had a bad mental mindset when I viewed Twitter now. However, I think everything was deeper then I thought it was as one of my people that I followed mention to me (and to this day, I still don't know how fully true this is) that they were going to cyber bully me forever until I self harm myself or even killed myself. I took this information with me heavily, I was lost for word, and I admit I was starting to feel a lost of hope for a bit.
- Aftermath:
- Lucky for me, I was still able to get myself a hold of reality and I was able to talk to some people that do care for my safety and they know that I was in the right and they were in the wrong. People I wanna thank for helping with this is Luke who runs Scott says sex everyday, Aurum who has What IGN thinks is worse then Sword and Shield, Kirbstar who has Cool Yoshi Opinions, and even the guy that runs Santa Decides who is like the most wholesome person that I have met in the Gimmick account community. I think I have also made the right choice to take a break from Twitter during that week and gave Plasmid Jeff main control of Characters Pain until I felt a bit better (which I also wanna thank the most since he really knows his shit when it comes with dealing with toxic people). I don't think I would have ever gotten my grip back in the game if it were not for those people and like anyone else that called out this toxic behavior.
- Message:
- If there is anything me and anyone who is reading this regardless who you are can take from this is that there is a REAL person behind a gimmick account and even if they have to "stay in character", their real lives are still effective. Behind each profile picture and on the other side of a computer or phone screen are real people; its something that most people when they reply to message are not fully aware of. Believe me what I say when a random post you make can portray who you are and the action that cause what you say or do can play a role in their outside life. We can all agree that the world can be complicated and ugly sometimes and its best not to add fuel to the fire. There has been countless times where people can get hurt or die for giving them such an unhealth mental state. Its best to just think and take into a consideration before you leave a comment or reply.
- Conclusion:
- So its also important to mention how before Character Pains I was a small creator who had a small following on Youtube and Twitter. I will talk about this more in the positive retrospective, but was not used to having a huge following then what I normally had. I just have to mention how hard it was dealing with my first gimmick account and the impact it can deal with my life outside the internet. Moving forward, if either this account gets a reboot or the new gimmick account is successful is to just take in all the bad action that I have made and learn from them the next time around.
- Thanks you for taking your time reading all of my negative thoughts and feeling I had when being the lead in Characters Pain and if this seems like this account was all too negative, I will have a positive retrospective coming soon as well as some special post because I want this gimmick to be remember with good memories and for it to have a happy ending of "her".
