  1.
  2. Morning light shone through the very forest of the Amazon, with the grassland swaying leisurely from the wind. Trees moved ever so slightly, with some of the animals who lived in them, their eyes opening gently to the notice of the sun's rising shadow.
  3.
  4.
  5. Regardless of the ever so constant increase of human activity ruining of what had made the Amazon Forest so wonderous, its beauty never faded away; A river that spread miles upon miles, waterfalls that were as tall as buildings, flowers that bloomed through even the driest times, and, of course, the biodiversity of animals that flourished the forest for many, many centuries.
  6.
  7.
  8. It truly seemed like any other day in the Amazonian Forest.
  9.
  10.
  11. As the day moved on, a nut capsule, hard and roughed in texture, shook away from its branch, falling into the hard, grassy ground. It laid out a thud, standing now motionlessly as passing insects and animals walked from it. For hours, it stood still, only letting out very little movements when a breeze came in. With some pecking through its shell from time to time, it slowly opened, revealing the very Brazilian nuts that are usually a treasure for some animals.
  12.
  13.
  14. Then, a macaw, shining ever so brightly with its saturated colors of blue and grey, had the opportunity to finally get them with ease, without dealing with being in a hassle. They snatched it with their claws, clenching onto it tightly to keep it from falling from them. Victorious, they let out a proud squawk.
  15.
  16.
  17. Their eyes focused on the path back to their nest, carefully darting through trees and other objects of nature. Another squawk let out from them, this time to signal another macaw, who was a rightful friend. Listening to the response of their friends’ squawk, they nodded, flying right towards them. Swiftly waving a wing, they gently placed one talon on the branch, with the other still grasping onto the nut.
  18.
  19.
  20. “You found a nut?” exclaimed their friend, gazing at it for a moment. “It took you longer than it took me!”
  21.
  22.
  23. They laughed slightly. “Well, it happens, Guilherme. No one messes with a macaw like me!” With a smile, they both ate the nuts they collected.
  24.
  25.
  26. Guilherme smiled with them, eating their nut. Their beak shuttered a little from its bitter taste, but ate it, as it still had a nice feeling to it. “Bleh, I hate the bittersweet flavors of nuts, but I love them anyway. I know it was worth the patience to get this, huh?”
  27.
  28.
  29. “Obviously!” He nodded, his aching claws proved Guilherme’s saying. “My wings are throbbing and my claws are aching badly."
  30.
  31.
  32. Guilherme eyebrowed him. "I have the sense you're going to tell me to get the nuts this time."
  33.
  34.
  35. "You know me too well." He smirked, his talons played with the remains of the nut he ate.
  36.
  37.
  38. "Hernando, may I -"
  39.
  40.
  41. "Ask away." He quickly interrupted.
  42.
  43.
  44. "Oh, you're good," stated Guilherme, showing an impressive face. "Anyways, remember that time we checked out that place... you know, the stuff with the things that are way bigger than our own trees?"
  45.
  46.
  47. His question stopped Hernando, but he did not show protest. "Explain," he simply affirmed.
  48.
  49.
  50. "Okay, so a while back, we overheard someone bring up about this place that they explored, right?" remarked Guilherme. It was clear that Guilherme was trying to convince Hernando into something that he did not remember.
  51.
  52.
  53. Hernando finished the rest of his nut before replying. "I don't recall."
  54.
  55.
  56. Guilherme puffed his feathers out, annoyed, but showed calmness. "And when we heard them, we came over to them since we were interested, they showed us the place, and that after all of that we promised to go back to it someday and I think today's the day!"
  57.
  58.
  59. His eyes turned small as he jumped on Guilherme, shaking him vigorously. "That dastardly place has humans! Do you know what they'll do to us? We're surprised they were too busy on their..." he drifted off for a moment. "- Whatever stuff that I can't think out - thingies to notice us."
  60.
  61.
  62. "I thought you didn't remember the place!" yelled out Guilherme in a confused tone.
  63.
  64.
  65. "Well, I do now!"
  66.
  67.
  68. Guilherme quickly pushed his way from Hernando's grip, ruffling himself. "Okay, since you now know and that I already told you," he closed his eyes, taking a small breath. "Want to visit that very place? It could help ease your mind."
  69.
  70.
  71. "Visting a place with a bunch of humans won't make me forget that I'm the last living macaw in the world." he grimly stated, huffing. Guilherme knew that his friend wouldn't forget about the overwhelming feeling, but he thought of this exploration as something to temporarily forget about it. However, he also knew it wasn't going to be simple.
  72.
  73.
  74. "I get that, Hernando, but please. This isn't for me, it's for you. Just a little bit of navigating, that's all. After that, we can go back here, in the Amazon, and not ever come back to that place, okay?"
  75.
  76.
  77. Hernando said nothing but a nod as he preened himself. "You better keep that promise."
  78.
  79.
  80. Slapping his friends' wing, he smiled greatly. "You're talking to the guy who made sure of every promise." He boasted with confidence.
