While worm-like aliens called Parasytes invade Earth, one of the aliens fail to crawl into a boy's ear. This Parasyte burrows into his arm instead where Izumi Shinichi is forced to live with it. The two form a strong bond to work together to survive.
They arrived in silence and darkness, descending from the skies with a hunger for human flesh. Parasytes - alien creatures who must invade and take control of a human host to survive - have come to earth. No one knows the secret except high school student, Shinichi Izumi, who's right hand has been invaded by a Parasyte. Shinichi and Migi, the Parasyte, begrudgingly form a friendship in the middle of a silent war between humanity and the Parasytes.
While initially an enticing prospect (for the anime crowd), this show eventually disappoints through a premature climax (with a drawn out eco-existential epilogue) and the somewhat irrational development of its characters.<br/><br/>In brief this is a supernatural high school action show, with radical environmentalist undertones that I suspect emerge from underlying Shinto philosophy. However, I wouldn&#39;t try read into this show too much, it doesn&#39;t deserve the effort.<br/><br/>It could have been good. The music was nice, the meager emotional development of the protagonist enjoyable, and the action hinting towards an epic showdown. In the end however, this show is really really really stupid.<br/><br/>I do not recommend.
We humans are the dominating species on earth, deciding who lives and who dies, controlling all creatures we consider to be &#39;inferior&#39;. Until one day spores, containing worm-like aliens, come to earth, starting to control some of us and, in order to survive, steadily consuming mankind. <br/><br/>These events, witnessed though the eyes of the main focalizer Shinichi Izumi, confront the viewer with many concepts and themes from modern philosophy: Egoism, altruism, deciding who lives and who dies, and who is the real parasite on earth? Is it the human who exploits his environment or the alien creature, which reduces mankind? <br/><br/>Not to mention that Shinichi, due to circumstances explained in the first episode, lives in a symbiosis with one of the parasites, being confronted with the problems of both species. He is now a human-parasite-hybrid, with all the flaws and advantages.<br/><br/>I personally liked this anime a lot, always catching myself thinking how I would have reacted in this or that situation :).<br/><br/>I&#39;ve been hooked from the first episode onwards! Highly recommended.
