  1. Pokemon Stadium Complete Round 1 FAQ
  2.
  3. Decided to make this for convenience, so please make sure to read before asking questions
  4.
  5. Q: What are you doing?
  6.
  7. A: Trying to beat the entirety of Round 1 in Pokemon Stadium for the Nintendo 64
  8.
  9. Q: Why?
  10.
  11. A: I spent over 30 hours routing it I better do it
  12.
  13. Q: What defines Complete Round 1?
  14.
  15. A: The player must defeat all 118 battles in Round 1 using only Rental Pokemon
  16.
  17. Q: What's World Record?
  18.
  19. A: 6:32:23 by me on USA V1.1
  20.
  21. Q: Is that the fastest version?
  22.
  23. A: As far as we know, yes. Although 1.0 and 1.2 versions still are as fast as long as they are USA/Can. PAL is much slower since it runs at 5/6 speed thus losing 35-45 minutes, so USA seems to be the fastest.
  24.
  25. Q: Isn't Japanese faster?
  26.
  27. A: Japanese Stadium 2 (everywhere else's Stadium 1) has different moves and different cups and is considered a different game
  28.
  29. Q: So what's fastest and slowest versions?
  30.
  31. A: Since Stadium was routed using 1.0 and 1.1 cartridges/emulators, it is assumed they are the fastest because the strats are meant for those versions. 1.2 has some slightly different coding so the RNG might be slightly different sometimes, but nothing has yet shown up to be a problem. At the moment it is assumed to be slower than 1.0/1.1. So in conclusion:
  32.
  33. USA/Can 1.0/1.1 > USA/Can 1.2 > PAL 1.0/1.1 > PAL 1.2
  34.
  35. Q: What is your goal for this category?
  36.
  37. A: Sub 6:30:00
  38.
  39. Q: What would be an ideal time?
  40.
  41. A: Sub 6:15:00
  42.
  43. Q: Will you stop after you get the Sub 6:30?
  44.
  45. A: For the moment, yes. When someone beats my time, I'll come back to bop
  46.
  47. Q: What's RNG?
  48.
  49. A: RNG stands for Random Number Generator and is loosely the same as luck
  50.
  51. Q: Why do you reset after you beat a cup?
  52.
  53. A: It's to skip a cutscene after the game registers (and saves) that you've beaten any of the cups or GLC. It saves about 150 seconds over the run (More detailed FAQ can be found here: http://pastebin.com/5bd5c0P6)
  54.
  55. Q: What Pokemon do you use in the run?
  56.
  57. A: A lot; Electrode, Zapdos, Articuno, Jynx, Nidoking, Jolteon, Tauros, Moltres, Starmie, Kabutops, Dugtrio, Metapod, Mr. Mime, Vaporeon, Tentacruel, Charmander, Horsea, Cubone, Gastly, Goldeen, Eevee, Ponyta, Raichu, Lapras, Haunter, Kadabra, Tentacool, and Rhydon (28 Pokemon)
  58.
  59. Q: Wouldn't transferring Pokemon from cartridges be faster?
  60.
  61. A: Yes.
  62.
  63. Q: Then why are you using rentals?
  64.
  65. A: It wouldn't be a fun at all if you just swept the game with Mewtwo. Plus, it's not allowed for this category
  66.
  67. Q: What do you mean?
  68.
  69. A: This category is made for rental Pokemon and designed for rentals. It's just how the category is
  70.
  71. Q: Why do you use low accuracy moves a lot compared to higher accuracy moves?
  72.
  73. A: Because they do more damage and are thus likely faster
  74.
  75. Q: Why does the COM have a shiny? I thought shinies didn't exist until Gen 2?
  76.
  77. A: You're right, they didn't. However, Level 5 decided to make the opponents seem "original" (or something like that) and give them all "creative" nicknames. Also, Pokemon Stadium has a system where if a Pokemon has a nickname, it has a slightly different color pallet (for whatever reason)
  78.
  79. Q: Is this World Record pace?
  80.
  81. A: It's always World Record pace until the splits say otherwise
