  8. Act 1 - The Exhumation
  9. There’s not a soul in sight as I approach the man’s grave. I figured as much, as a thief isn’t laid to rest in the same cemeteries as the aristocrats, holy men, or other people of a higher class. Robert Ehrman was given a simple, shallow burial by some family member who took pity on him. It doesn’t take long to dig up the simple wooden box he was buried in, and removing the lid takes no time at all with the prybar I brought along. The stench is horrible. Mr. Ehrman is buried with what he had left to his name, just the clothes he was wearing. I get a little mournful. Ehrman was caught stealing food, something he had surely done many times before to feed himself. Just doing what he had to do to survive. Not unlike what I’m doing now.

  11. Act 2 - The Interlude
  12. After dropping off Mr. Ehrman at the academy, I head back to my dormitory for a good night’s sleep. I never have much trouble drifting off to sleep, but as I lie in bed, I do think about Mr. Ehrman, as I have with the few other cadavers I have procured. I wonder how he would feel about being taken from his resting place like he has been. I hope he would understand that we do what we do for the benefit of all mankind. We will study him and the next generation of brilliant minds will use their improved knowledge to further the advancement of medicine. It’s for the greater good, Mr Ehrman. You would understand…

  14. Act 3 - The Dissection
  15. My professor wants us to study the liver, and I didn’t think about the fact that a hard-living individual such as Robert Ehrman would have a liver that might not be the best example. I’m trying to do my best to write a report that answers the questions put forth by Professor Beecher, but it’s difficult to write about the liver’s functions when it simply doesn’t. I decide to do my best, while also making observations about this liver in particular, hoping that showing my understanding of what’s gone wrong will demonstrate my competence.

  17. Act 4 - The Bounty
  18. Professor Beecher was very intrigued by my observations on the damaged organs of Mr Robert Ehrman, and has assigned me a younger mentee student. We are to find similar cadavers and report our findings. I was so worried that he might be upset, what a happy accident! Mr. Ehrman would be so happy that his life (or rather, death) proved to be so fruitful!
  19.
  20. Act 5 - The End
  21. Frederick quickly forgets about Robert Ehrman, and the other people he exhumed from their graves, and goes on to be a moderately successful anatomist. He makes no major contribution to science himself, and ultimately learns nothing.
