- The day was simply magnificent. The clouds above were as white, puffy, and as soft-looking as anyone could imagine. The trees in the nearby forest were as deep green as ever, with a few buds on those woody limbs threatening to blossom and bloom. With how often the castle and its surrounding town were dealing with this serene peace, it was almost surprising to find out that the place happened to have a bit of a “draconic” problem. Alas, such a fate for the Kingdom of Felthorna was always something that the prophets and the seers had predicted back in the early days, back in the kingdom’s infancy. For now, though, the town was simply minding its own business, and dealing with the day to day goings-on of its business.
- “RRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAR!!!”
- The townspeople within those dark slate walls duck their heads at the sound of that tempestuous bellow through the sky. What in the world was that? It certainly couldn’t have been something bad, could it? After all, the legends were only mentioning something happening “in the future”, and it couldn’t have been now, right? Certainly not! However, things were happening as the legends predicted, and the time had come for destiny to have its fill.
- Just as people were gathering their things and getting ready to go about their business once again, a dark shadow flaps its way above everyone’s heads, and casts a shadow as large as the square itself! People looked up, and most, if not all of their eyes went wide.
- “AIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!”
- Someone had screamed their lungs out, and soon all hell started to break loose: people began to run, scream, and clatter their way away from the open, each one beginning to make their way out of the square. People ran, shoved, and threw as much of their wares into their bags before making their exit. The sounds of pottery shattering against the ground, footsteps and a general din filled the air before the square was cleared of every one of its inhabitants. Of course, one of the places that had the most amount of an uproar was the castle. Oh, yes, the castle was in a prime upheaval at this moment.
- “CLOSE THE GATES! KEEP THAT FIEND OUT OF THE CASTLE GROUNDS!”
- And like that, the iron gates of the castle clatter shut, and the entirety of the castle simply becomes a fortress at this point. There wouldn’t be a person alive that could go in and out of those grounds without the express permission of the King or Queen.
- “ROOOOOOOAAAAAAAARRR!!”
- The dark shadow overhead of the entire place didn’t even seem fazed by the shutting of those gates, and with a mighty “FWOOSH, FWOOSH, FWOOSH”, soared right over those slate-colored armaments to the castle itself. The shadow lets out another flap or two of its wings before landing straight onto the side of the castle, letting its head turn towards one of the windows to peer inside… After a moment or three of looking around, the scaled shadow lets out a fiery huff before using one of his enormous horns to gore open the side of that towering building. With a smirk of its gargantuan fangs, it reaches in, snatches up something, and starts to flap its wings before taking off from the side of that now-ruined castle. With barely a sound, it starts to fly away towards one of the nearby fields…
- Of all the things he’s had to deal with, Jack had just about had it with the King… First, he finds out that Princess Awytmn was kidnapped, and then he’s the person that’s sent out to slay the beast! He had been telling him that it would be a suicide mission if it were just him, but noooo, it was all about “honor”, and “chivalry”! Ugh, the thought makes him sick… But, he went anyway. After all, it was Leaf that got captured… His Leaf. How was he supposed to let someone like her just get kidnapped? Oh, what to do, what to do… He lets out a small sigh, and starts to make his way towards the gates.
- The fox hefts up his armor, checks to make sure that his blade was at his hip, and rubs his face. This was going to be suicide, but it was for her. So, without another word, he starts on his journey towards the plains that dragon had flown towards. The seers had told him where he could find it, after all. But getting there, oh, that was the big “if”, wasn’t it? He rubs his face, and simply gets back along the path for that quest he had suddenly found himself on. In the meantime, he pulls out a piece of beef jerky, puts one of the ends into his maw, and tears off a chunk before letting his mind wander for the time being…
- The fox had been hauling himself through the winding paths as best as his legs could take him, and from what he could tell, he had made his way to where that dragon had gone. The problem, though, is that he certainly didn’t see any sort of dragon at the moment… Had the seers been wrong? No, there was no possible way that they could be wrong. After all, they had predicted this entire thing years and years ago! Of course they were right! He could just crest over that hill, and he’d see a dra… d…
- “Dear lord…!” The fox’s eyes widen at the sight of a gargantuan beast plopped in the middle of the field. Its onyx-colored scales lay on top of one another, and glisten in the light of the sun. Each one of those scales looks like it could become at least a hefty shield, or part of a massive set of plate armor, but to get them, he’d have to pry them off, first… But, from what he can see, he’s got a lot of work ahead of himself. Oh, absolutely.
- Nevertheless, the fox hefts up his armor, his shield, and his pack onto his shoulders a bit better. He had best make sure to see what it was up to. For all he knows, it could be sleeping right now. So, as quietly as he can in his armor, he makes his way closer towards the hulking behemoth. He has to figure out what’s been going on, and if anything, he needed to figure out the Princess’s fate.
- “Hehehe… Finally. I’ve got such a delicious meal to fill my belly…” As the gargantuan beast speaks, it rises to its feet, and starts to head towards the South. From the look of things, it looks like the beast was only resting for the moment before getting into its lair… The fox shakes his head for a moment or two to clear his head. Things like this were over his head, but he had to save her! “I have a feeling that you’ll end up a lot better than that damnable duchess from the next continent over. After all, you’ve certainly got this air about you that tells me you’ll taste... scrumptious~.” And like that, the onyx-colored beast makes its way towards the massive hole in the side of the nearby cliff face. The fox gathers his gear, and starts to make his way over as well. What was he talking about…!?
- “Ugh, you absolute scoundrel! Unhand me this moment, or… or, um… or I’ll have my father send our knights to pick you off! Ah, careful, you brute! This dress is made of silk!” Wait… That was Leaf’s voice! There was no mistaking it! The fox jogs over towards the entrance of that cave, and leans his head towards the opening…”And another thing, you mongrel! This lair of yours is an absolute sty! Not even fit for the people in the town! How dare you bring a princess here!” There’s a small “Thump” sound before the sound of the princess’s voice simply stops.
- “Agh, finally. Damnable thing has no sense of manners in someone’s home.” The draconic being’s voice booms out from the cave entrance. “Hehehe… no matter. Once I’m done dealing with things here, I get to finally relax, and eat a nice, filling, succulent meal… Hehehehe…!” And, with a devilish smirk on his face, the dragon lifts up the Princess by the back of her dress, and places her into his toothy maw. The dragon’s eyes roll back for a moment at the feeling of such a succulent meal upon his tongue, and for a moment, he seems to have forgotten where he was. Nevertheless, the Princess vanishes from the dragon’s mouth, and sliiiiides down into his toiling gut. He even lets out a bit of a huff! “Aaaah… positively scrumptious. Hehe, my compliments to the chef! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!” There was no way that huge dragon was going to get away with what he just did…! And he certainly wasn’t going to back away from such a sight as that! He was going to get back the woman he loves! Even if it kills him!
- “Oi, you, Draconic heathen!” He steps into view of the cave entrance, on hand on his breast, and the other on the hilt of his blade. “My name is Jack! I am a Knight of the Kingdom of Felthorna, and I demand that you release the princess from your scaled grasp! Have at thee, you mongrel!” And like that, the fox draws his sword with a slick “SHING!”, and charges towards the dragon! Within moments, he closes the distance, and he swings his sword at the dragon’s scaled behind!
- “CLANG~!”
- The fox opens his eyes. Had he missed, or…? He looks down at the sword in his hand. Or, rather, the sword hilt in his hand. It seems as though the actual blade had snapped off. Was that it on the ground, lying in metallic scraps? Ohhh, this certainly didn’t bode well for him.
- “Hm? What was that?” The dragon’s head perks up for a moment at the sound of that blade shattering and littering its way around the floor. He looks around, and spots the fox before putting on a grin filled with razor-sharp fangs… “Oh, well look at what we have here~! Dessert.” And like that, the dragon turns around to face the fox, who, at this point, has eyes wider than dinner plates. Said fox takes a step back… then another… and another still before suddenly turning tail and bolting towards the entrance again!
- “Oh gods, oh gods, oh gods, oh gods, oh go-”
- His words are cut off by the sound of something whistling through the air before he suddenly meets the ground. Oooh, that hurts a lot. What did he…? He turns over, and looks down at himself and… wait, where did his legs go…?! He just had them, didn’t he? The dragon simply saunters his way towards the fox, and grins like a maniac the entire time, showing off the entirety of his fanged maw…
- “Hehehe… well, well, well… Look at who made his way to my doorstep. I hope you don’t mind, but I tend to like my dessert… one bite at a time. Do stay still, I know that you’ll just end up being a bit tougher to chew, anyway! HAAAHAHAHA!!” And without another word, the dragon opens his maw, and lolls out his tongue before wrapping it around the fox.
- “A-A-Ah, p-p-please, no, I don’t want to be someone’s next meal!!! Oh gods!! OH GODS!!”
- And like that, the dragon’s maw closes around the fox’s body. The onyx-scaled beast raises his head up, and simply lets gravity do its work to bring down his “dessert” to his gut. Thankfully, he won’t have to go hungry tonight. So, without another word or another interruption, the dragon starts to make his way back towards his lair. He’ll go find some place to eat at another time. He didn’t want to get a stomach ache, now, did he?
