- Might as well begin one for Ashes of Arkham. Might do ones for other fanfics, but this one will be updated as chapters are added.
- First for the fic as a whole.
- Action Girl: Azumi and Jessica.
- All Webbed Up: Um...Spider Man is involved. Do you expect something else?
- Alternative Character Interpretation: The Arkhamverse!Batman is noticeabley more brutal than his DCAU counterpart. However, this is more on the creator's part than ours.
- Animal Themed Superbeing: Do we even have to say?
- Anti Hero: Spiderman is, as per usual, Type I, though it's not played that much. DCAU!Batman is a Type II. Azumi, Jessica, Arkham!Batman and to a degree Catwoman are Type IIIs.
- Anti Villain: What Catwoman isn't as a Type III Anti Hero she is as a Type I of this.
- Armor Is Useless: Played with. It's not always that great, but it does save those who have it from life-threatening injuries usually.
- Bad Boss: Several, but Oswald "Penguin" Cobblepot is the most prominent.
- Badass: Basically the entire protagonist ensemble, both canon and not.
- Badass Abnormal: Scarecrow, as per normal now.
- Badass Bookworm: Peter "Spider Man" Parker.
- Badass Normal: DCAU!Batman, Arkhamverse!Batman, Arkhamverse!Catwoman, Arkhamverse!Talia al-Ghul, and Azumi Ian.
- Batman Gambit: One is in action, yes, but it isn't by the Trope Namers. It's by Azumi, on top of more of a Gambit Pileup than the original game.
- Blade Below The Shoulder: Azrael has a Flaming Sword version of a detachable wrist-mounted one, which Azumi copies the schematics of. Azumi herself has a nonlethal version of this in her omnitool, though.
- Building Swing: Jessica, Catwoman, the Batmen, and Spiderman all do this.
- Bunny Ears Lawyer: Catwoman, to Jessica's Straight Woman.
- Caltrops: In Selina Kyle's arsenal, and shifts to be included in Jessica's as well.
- Catgirl: Selina "Catwoman" Kyle and Jessica Mireu, in motif and literally respectively.
- Classy Cat Burglar: Selina again.
- Cool Sword: Wraith's high-frequency stun wakizashi, Talia al-Ghul's katana, and Jessica's Trench Blade rapier.
- Crapsack World: When you're in the Arkhamverse, you know that, at minimum, you will end up with many more bruises than you are used to.
- Dark Action Girl: Catwoman.
- Deadpan Snarker: Many, from Alfred Pennyworth to A.L.F.R.E.D. to Arkhamverse!Batman to Azumi to Catwoman to Spiderman.
- The Dreaded: The Batmen and Scarecrow at least.
- Eccentric Mentor: Catwoman for Jess. It's downplayed, she she's not old nor foolish, but she does have her seduction quirk while she's trying to teach Jess.
- Femme Fatale: Again Catwoman.
- Find The Cure: A large part of the main plot, less relevant, but still somewhat important here.
- Fish Out of Water: Jessica, in a sense.
- Funny Background Event: As per the game itself, the thug conversations play out this way.
- Goggles Do Something Unusual: Detective Vision, Helmet Mounted Displays, VISR, and Thief Vision.
- Healing Factor: To a weird degree, everyone. Health is awarded with EXP, so the better you fight, the more you heal faster. It's in the world mechanics, so Badass Normals are still Badass Normals, though extra-universal healing items still do work and are present.
- Hey, it's That Voice!: In-universe. Kevin Conroy voices both Batmen, and Grey DeLisle voices both Catwoman and Azumi.
- Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: More or less by Azumi and the Batmen, though they don't actually give the pain, so the truthful answer is more justified as being out of fear rather than pain.
- Le Parkour: How Azumi traverses the city, lacking any other methods.
- Les Yay: Played for laughs. Catwoman teases Jessica about her looks, and Jessica has a hard time not looking at Selina's swinging behind.
- Lighter And Softer: Than the game itself. Very, very slightly.
- Massively Multiplayer Crossover: Of a sort. This is the most people working together on a fic, let along individual chapters, that has happened thus far.
- Monster Clown: Aside from the Joker, his entire gang evokes this.
- Mr. Exposition: Michael Washington Lane, the Arkhamverse version of Azrael. Several others give exposition, but that is his main purpose. He remains a Mysterious Benefactor and Mysterious Watcher, however.
- Ms. Fanservice: Selina Kyle revels in this position in order to leave her opponents Distracted By The Sexy when in open combat. Jessica is not amused.
- Mythology Gag/Continuity Nod: Many to Batman history and villains, not to mention Spider Man's own universe. The Continuity Nods are harder to spot, but based within Arkham Asylum, the previous game.
- Noble Demon: Catwoman.
- The Other Darrin: A meta example. Adri is writing for Sorin's Jessica in this, though what she's doing is in the canon from the point of this on.
- Playing Both Sides: Playing all sides in the case of Azumi, though she's really just on the heroes'.
- Playing With Fire: Jess's magic is a mix of this and Light Em Up, though primarily this.
- Race Against The Clock: Azumi and the Batmen are trying to find out what Protocol 10 is before it is too late.
- Secret Identity: Aside from the normal ones from the DCU variants, we have "Wraith" being adopted for for the first time by Azumi.
- Sexy Mentor: Catwoman for Jess, and proud of it.
- She Fu: Catwoman's fighting style, combined with Dance Battler.
- Smoke Out: Utilized by Azrael, Wraith, and both Batmen. When the smoke is up, mooks invariably miss with guns.
- Spanner In The Works: Various, but the key one aside from the canonical Catwoman is Azumi/Wraith, who completely Out Gambits Scarecrow and robs him of any kind of alliance with the major players in Arkham City's turf wars proper.
- Spy Catsuit: Catwoman has one, which has many similarities to one that Azumi had to wear, triggering bad memories and in-universe Unfortunate Implications for her and Jess.
- The Tease: Catwoman, to Jessica's chagrin.
- Teeth Gritted Teamwork: Azumi's partnerships with Scarecrow and Jessica both.
- The Password Is Always Swordfish: If there is a password, most times it will be rather obvious. This is sometimes lampshaded.
- Troll: Edward "the Riddler" Nigma at your service.
- Villainous Harlequin: Harley Quinn.
- Volleying Insults: Azumi and Scarecrow. Constantly.
- Whip It Good: The cat girl duo, both a whip and bolas for both by the end.
- Wolverine Claws: Catwoman has these on her gloves, though not a lot of attention is drawn to them.
- ---
- Prologue
- Batman Cold Open: As per the opening of the game itself, though there are two in it this time.
- Click Hello: The cliffhanger.
- Embarrassing Nickname: "Catgirl" for Jessica, taking from the alias of the sidekick of Catwoman of New Earth of the DCU itself.
- Lovely Angels/Sword and Sorcerer: Kyle and Mireu begin a variant of these kinds of partnerships here.
- Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Catwoman isn't that alarmed by Jess's looks, and up-front says she probably should have expected that eventually. Granted, she's from the DCU, and is friends with a Plant Person.
- Chapter 1
- Acid Pool: What Two-Face was going to drop Catwoman and Jess into.
- Admiring The Abomination: In a sense inverted. Scarecrow is in awe of Batman's ability to beat the living crap out of people... like he had done to Crane himself. More than once.
- Badass In Distress: Jessica and Catwoman, subjected to a Joker Jury at the hands of Two-Face. They break themselves out.
- Black and White Insanity: Harvey "Two-Face" Dent himself.
- Curb Stomp Battle: Arkham!Batman vs. Two-Face's goons. It's barely even described.
- Eye Scream: Catwoman slashes Dent's scarred side's eye.
- Faux Affably Evil: Julian Gregory "Calendar Man" Day rather politely tells Azumi about how he strangled a woman on Valentine's Day. Charming.
- Groin Attack: Twice from the cat girls.
- The Man In The Mirror Talks Back: Two-Face's two halves are identified separately.
- Numerical Motif: Dent and twos, as Crane draws attention to.
- Save The Villain: Azumi to Two-Face. Sort of.
- Split Personality: Dent again.
- Stealth Hi/Bye: The Cliffhanger.
- Stealth Insult/Genius Bonus: Azumi leaves a swear instead of an actual radio frequency, coded in alphanumeric substitution.
- Two Faced: The Trope Namer himself.
- You Got Guts: Why Catwoman has Jess be her student, since they aren't really that different in some ways.
- ---
- Chapter 2
- Ax Crazy: Spiderman agrees that Zsasz is as crazy as the host of Carnage-616.
- Bad Liar: Zsasz's Motive Rant isn't particularly convincing, just crazy.
- Batman Cold Open: Taken to its literal extreme. (Okay, I'm sorry.)
- Covered in Scars: Victor Zsasz. One tally mark for each kill.
- Enemy Mine: Between DCAU!Batman and Bane in order to take out containers of Titan, six for each of them.
- Evil Phone: Zsasz's mission revolves around these.
- Fan Disservice: Nobody wants to see you shirtless, Zsasz.
- Good Scars, Evil Scars: See Covered in Scars.
- Knife Nut: Zsasz again.
- Motive Rant: A particularly disturbing one given by Zsasz.
- Second Episode New Character: DCAU!Batman and Spiderman didn't show up in previous chapters at all.
- Serial Killer: Zsasz again.
- Soft-Spoken Sadist: Victor Zsasz.
- Stealth-Based Mission: Spidey's takedown of Zsasz, which utilizes methods not available to Batman, like the Wall Crawl.
- The Watson: Seems to be one of A.L.F.R.E.D.'s primary purposes here, so as to help explain the plot to people who are less informed.
- We Have Reserves: Oswald "Penguin" Cobblepot leaves his own men on Joker's side of the city to keep Batman from reaching him easily.
- ---
- Chapter 3
- Berserk Button: Selina trying to avoid Poison Ivy's is why she asks Jessica not to travel to her place with her, since her Lightning magic would probably burn her plants.
- Ceiling Cling: Catwoman teaches Jessica how to do this for stealthy movement.
- Fetish Fuel: In-universe, Catwoman draws attention to how Jess's boyfriend (Will) must "like how good she is with her whip."
- Hey, You! Haymaker: Jess does this with a bola at long range before jumping into a fray alone at the end of the chapter.
- It Was A Gift: Catwoman gives Jess copies of all of her equipment except her whip (which is unnecessary due to Ribbon) and her catsuit (though not for lack of trying), including her bolas, caltrops, and Thief Vision goggles, just because she thinks that she'll find them useful.
- Let's Split Up, Gang: Justified. Catwoman wants to get into the confiscated goods vault and is going to get Poison Ivy, but doesn't want Jessica accidentally invoking Dr. Pamela Isley's wrath by burning her plants.
- No, Just No Reaction: Jess to being offered a copy of Selina's Spy Catsuit.
- ---
- Chapter 4
- Ain't No Rule: How Scarecrow takes down the Riddler's scheme.
- Enemy Mine: Of a sort. Scarecrow leads Arkham!Batman to Riddler's hideouts with signs. It's less to stop Riddler or help Batman than it is to counter-troll Riddler.
- He's Back: Scarecrow is back home. Watch out.
- Incoming Ham: "The Scarecrow lives!"
- Mook Horror Show: Played by the master of horror himself.
- No Fair Cheating: Played for laughs, and with no consequences. Riddler shouts this before being cut off when Scarecrow interrupts his game.
- Notice This: In universe. Scarecrow puts gigantic, glowing, yellow markings where all of the Riddler rooms are for Batman to find and enter.
- Playful Hacker: The Riddler taps into Scarecrow's radio just to "chat" with him.
- Refuge In Audacity: Scarecrow's solution to the Riddler's game.
- Rule Of Funny: See Refuge in Audacity.
- Take That: From the Riddler about the Incoming Ham. "The Scarecrow lives, but does he have a life?" Also Hypocritical Humor.
- ---
- Chapter 5
- Boring Insult: Wraith's "The Reason You Suck" Speech amounts to this.
- Deadline News: Narrowly averted thanks to a rescue mission.
- Demoted To Extra: Mister Hammer, out of necessity and a lack of importance to the pieces of the plot we are using.
- Deus Ex Machina: Azumi could not have saved Vicki Vale from the bridge physically due to lacking proper equipment, so Arkhamverse!Batman saves her for her.
- Domestic Abuse: Heavily implied between Harley and the Joker.
- Drop the Hammer: Mister Hammer.
- The Ghost: The Joker and Harley Quinn. Justified in that he is gravely ill and doesn't want anyone to see him, and she is worried about his well-being.
- Handicapped Badass: "Mister Hammer", the right-armed Abramovici brother, is incredibly strong, but has only one arm.
- Info Dump: Given by Azrael...if Azumi could actually translate him. She managed it part of the way, and DCAU!Batman helped more, but it's still not quite there.
- Instant Sedation: Azumi and Jessica being knocked out by the sedatives at the end of the chapter.
- Nice Hat: A green top hat, which is noticed at one point, becomes important later.
- Shout Out: The Boring Insult "The Reason You Suck" Speech is a long one to Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Azumi, using the guise of Wraith, gives one of these to the Joker based on a famous speech given at the end of "Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker". The temporary Villainous Breakdown is similar, though less direct.
- Spot The Thread: How Azumi realizes that she's been tricked at the end of the chapter, noticing that Kira doesn't act like Kira.
- Ungrateful Bastard(Bitch): Regardless of the fact that Jessica helped to save her from the latter's mirror verse counterpart, she still acts as though she is responsible for the unnamed horrors that happened to her. Still, this is justified in that the mirror version had her voice, wore her clothes, had the weapon that the prime version took from her, and looks exactly like her physically. It's just blown out of proportion.
- ---
- Chapter 6
- A Spot Of Tea: It's his special-tea.
- Alice In Wonderland: The Mad Hatter's obsession.
- Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: The Hatter.
- Berserk Button: Do not call the Mad Hatter insane.
- Body Horror: In the Hatter's falling mindscape, the masks he puts on people are a part of their heads.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: The Mad Hatter's henchmen, and very nearly Azumi and Jessica as well.
- The Corruptible: Jessica and Azumi, though it's not really their fault due to the drugs they had taken earlier. Scarecrow calls out the latter on this.
- Depraved Dwarf: Kind of in the case of the Mad Hatter, but he doesn't seem to know what's wrong.
- Dream Apocalypse: Steadily collapsing as the women fight off the Hatter and his goons, then completely falls apart when Scarecrow invades.
- Enemy Mine: A non antagonistic example of sorts. Azumi and Jessica do not see eye to eye, but they do work together rather well to fight off the Hatter.
- Everyone Loves Blondes: Jess's hair color comes as a disadvantage to her.
- Evil Redhead: The Hatter, though how "villainous" he is is up for grabs.
- Evil Is Stylish: His suit might not be up to par, but it is rather fancy.
- Freak Out: Azumi has one at the end of the topic over her powerlessness to stop the mind control on her own.
- Hair Raising Hare: The white rabbit masks of the Hatter's goons.
- Heroic BSOD: Azumi has one at the end of the chapter.
- Gonk: The Hatter is not attractive, no.
- Heroic Willpower: How Azumi and Jess avoid being brainwashed completely.
- Hypno Trinket: The Mad Hatter's hats and tea.
- I Ate What: The Hatter's tea is laced with "ludicrous amounts of psychoactive controls".
- Incredibly Lame Pun: See A Spot Of Tea.
- The Mad Hatter: Subverted by Jervis "The Mad Hatter" Tetch. His mental illness is a very touchy subject.
- Mad Scientist: The Hatter and Scarecrow both, but more the former here.
- Master Of Illusion: The Hatter and Scarecrow, again.
- Mind Control Device: The Mad Hatter's hats and tea. The latter is taken by Scarecrow for Dani.
- Mistaken For Special Guest: A dark take on this in the form of Jess's being mistaken for Alice Lidell of Lewis Carroll's books.
- Mushroom Samba/Nightmare Sequence: The Mad Hatter's mind control dimension.
- My Name Is Not Durwood: Jess is not Alice, Jervis. Stop it.
- Mythology Gag: Scarecrow's appearance in the Dream Apocalypse is that of the Scarebeast from the comics.
- Nice Hat: The Hatter's top hat.
- Nightmare Fuel: The whole brainwashing process.
- No Mister Bond, I Expect You To Dine: The Hatter just wanted the women to have tea with him... forever.
- Obliviously Evil: The Mad Hatter seems to be this way.
- One Scene Wonder: Like Zsasz, the Hatter only comes up front in this chapter.
- Pet The Dog: When DCAU!Batman hears that Azumi had a run in with the Mad Hatter, the first thing he does is ask if she is okay.
- Psychopathic Manchild: Jervis Tetch.
- Red Sky Take Warning: The mind control dimension takes on this when Scarecrow invades.
- Rhymes On A Dime: The narration during the "break out of brainwashing" sequence.
- Soundtrack Dissonance: A literary example. As the two women scream and try to escape their blind brainwashing, the format of the writing changes to poetry.
- Villainous Rescue: Scarecrow saves Azumi and Jessica.
- Villainous Teleportation: Mad Hatter has this... kind of. It's probably the drugs.
- Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Well, minds, but the Mad Hatter fits.
- ---
- Chapter 7
- Always Close: Intentional. Azumi fires to stop Deadshot at the last possible second just to force his aim off without having to get close.
- Arm Cannon: Deadshot has two forearm-mounted, silenced, armor-piercing ones. Azumi takes one of the pairs for herself upon victory.
- Armor Is Useless: Averted. Azumi would be dead if it weren't for several layers of protection.
- Armor Piercing Attack: Deadshot and Azumi's guns, more the Seeker Rifle in the case of the latter.
- Badass Mustache: Deadshot.
- Battle Trophy: Azumi's requisition of Deadshot's arm guns on one arm is a functional version of this.
- Berserk Button: Azumi made Deadshot miss his shot. He wasn't happy.
- Blown Across The Room: Or blown off the roof, anyway, in terms of Azumi's first defeat to Deadshot. Justified in that it wasn't very long, and in gameplay, the gun does the same to someone else.
- Boss Banter: Deadshot goes on about how unbeatable he is just a bit.
- The Cameo: Calendar Man at the end.
- Cliffhanger: Azumi is being trailed by... someone at the end.
- Deadpan Snarker: Deadshot most prominently.
- Death Seeker: Deadshot isn't actually actively seeking death. He just doesn't care if he lives or dies.
- Fashion Victim Villain: Azumi thinks this of any of the villains, but Deadshot in this case.
- Gun Fu: The Azumi versus Deadshot final fight is essentially a close-range gunfight, albeit realistic and involving them dropping most of their weapons to close combat.
- Gunpoint Banter: Between Deadshot and Azumi when they confront each other.
- The Gunslinger: Most prominently Deadshot.
- Hard Head: Azumi doesn't get a concussion from her impact with concrete. Justified by how she is wearing a helmet and full armor, and she does get knocked out.
- Improbable Aiming Skills: A staple of Deadshot. The last shot he attempts is through a filled water tower. Also an example of Artistic License: Physics, though he probably did it that way to show Mythbusters off for assuming he couldn't.
- In Medias Res: Starts in the middle of the Deadshot attack before going to How We Got Here.
- Irony: Batman is on Deadshot's kill list. He's just going to get to Bruce Wayne first.
- Mysterious Mercenary Pursuer: Deadshot again.
- Nietszche Wannabe: His "The Reason You Suck" Speech seems to give that impression.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: Deadshot, not to mention extremely crude.
- Porn Stache: Deadshot's classic mustache.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Deadshot gives one against hope.
- Shoot Out The Lock: Subverted with Azumi getting into the substation. She uses her Seeker Rifle to shoot the hinges, not the lock, in proper shotgun breaching procedure.
- Smug Super: Deadshot is rather proud of his skill. Possibly subverted in that he isn't actually super. He's just that good.
- Shout Out: To Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. "That's my blood. That's my blood, that's a lot of my blood."
- Shut Up Hannibal: Azumi gives one to Deadshot in response to his "The Reason You Suck" Speech after their fight.
- Sniper Duel: Between Azumi and Deadshot. Not a long one, though, mostly be necessity of the time span.
- Sniper Rifle: Azumi's Seeker Rifle and Deadshot's rifle.
- Stealth Based Mission: The lead up to getting to Deadshot both times.
- Walking Armory: Deadshot is noted as carrying two handguns, his sniper rifle, and his trademark guns.
- We Will Meet Again: Deadshot shouts this to Azumi, who isn't there.
- ---
- Chapter 8
- Apocalyptic Log: Sort of in the case of Hush's diary.
- Badass Longcoat: Hush doesn't get to show it, though.
- Bandaged Face: Dr. Thomas "Hush" Elliot, at your service.
- Berserk Button: Hush hits Catwoman's, murdering six people for basically no reason.
- Big Damn Heroes: Jessica is saved by Catwoman coming in on the high amount of mooks attacking her.
- Body Horror: The fate of the victims of the Identity Thief, and his new face.
- Burn Baby Burn: Hush burns the audio tape of himself to secure his new identity.
- Casual Danger Dialogue: Jessica and Catwoman engage in this during the Multi Mook Melee.
- Criminal Doppelgänger: Hush, of Bruce Wayne. The voice isn't quite there yet, though.
- Dramatic Unmask: Hush does this for Catwoman, who is shocked by the look.
- Evil Former Friend: Hush is one to Bruce Wayne.
- Face Stealer: As in the game, Hush takes Jane Doe's shtick from the comics here to make his new face instead of going to another surgeon.
- Freak Out: Jess has one near the end after the entire ordeal involving Hush, but Selina snaps her out of it.
- Groin Attack: Indirect, but Jessica and Selina tear a man's legs apart like a wishbone, potentially ripping his groin in half in the process, but not killing him.
- Ironic Nursery Rhyme: Hush sings "Hush Little Baby" as he leaves Catwoman and Jess alone.
- Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: How the women get the information on Hush's hideout out of the inmate they find.
- Les Yay: Jessica does not want to know why Selina smells like sweat, rose petals, and sap after talking with "Pam". The wording was probably intentional on Catwoman's part.
- Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: Hush is a plastic surgeon. Evil, of course.
- Mythology Gag: Hush makes a comment about literally taking Catwoman's heart, something he actually does in the comic storyline in which he debuted.
- The Nose Knows: Catwoman and Jess track down the Cleanup Crew member for Hush to try to find him by using Jessica's olfactory trail of bleach. Later, she uses her other Super Senses to hear the guy.
- Room Full Of Crazy: Hush lives in one very close to Catwoman's own apartment, which legitimately scares her. It includes an operating table, surgical equipment, and pictures of all of his subjects' faces, not to mention a tape of himself saying his diary for this.
- Serial Killer: Hush, the Identity Thief.
- Sharp Dressed Man: Hush has on a nice suit under his trench coat.
- Shout Out: Catwoman calls Wayne a "billionaire playboy philanthropist". Not a genius, though. Still, she knows her Avengers apparently.
- The Sociopath: Hush again.
- Super Senses: Jessica has all of her senses enhanced, which really shows when she tracks down the mook to interrogate.
- Tear Off Your Face: Jessica sees a victim of the Identity Thief, and takes off the bandages. It's not pretty.
- This Cannot Be: Not really, but Catwoman does say this in response to Hush's face.
- The Unfought: Hush is encountered, but aside from pointing a gun at Jess, he doesn't fight them at all.
- Perspective Flip: Unlike previous chapters with Jessica and Catwoman, this one is predominantly from the latter's point of view, showing she's not completely flippant about everything.
- Pet The Dog: Selina shows a lot of concern for Jessica this time around, and is more serious around things, showing that she does care about people.
- Vader Breath: The main reason Hush's voice differs from Wayne's is that he's still adjusting to the pain of the surgery to get his new face.
- ---
- Chapter 9
- Bi The Way: Joked about by one of the thugs near the end in response to hearing Catwoman "goes both ways" (which really meant she was an antihero/antivillain).
- Blatant Lies: Azumi lies to Scarecrow about "Wraith" attacking her when it was really Batman who put her in her state. Also, Scarecrow lying about nothing happening with Killer Croc. Only the latter is peeled through.
- Blood From The Mouth: Azumi has some, but it's not indicative of being near death. Rather, it's indicative of the fact that she was punched in the mouth, and has a cut inside as a result.
- Dramatic Irony: Scarecrow says that he doubts Azumi has the skills to beat Batman, even though she knows she nearly did a few minutes prior.
- Enemy Chatter: There's a whole section near the end of the chapter devoted to showing some of the thug conversations.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Hush agrees with Azumi about Scarecrow not being a scientist and his work being idiotic instead of scientific.
- Evil Mentor: Scarecrow is revealed to be this to an evil student, namely Hush, though neither of them knew it at the time they were teacher and student.
- Hannibal Lecture: Azumi listens to one from Strange on a video tape. She is not happy with it's comments on Batman.
- High Altitude Interrogation: Azumi does one of these as Wraith with both hands on the thug's legs, getting information on a side entrance to the Iceberg Lounge and getting the Puffin Zero frequency for the radio so she can listen in on Penguin.
- I Don't Like The Sound Of That Place: Lampshaded with Crime Alley.
- I Just Want To Be You: Riddler brings attention to how this is the case with Hugo Strange regarding Batman.
- Leaning On The Fourth Wall: The thugs near the end talk about, among other things, what the next Arkham based place will be in order of escalation.
- Let's You And Him Fight: Azumi and Arkham!Batman get into a scuffle over the tape in Crime Alley. Azumi does better, but still loses, and it's only because she asks him to stop that he finally does.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Azumi saved Hush's life by stopping Deadshot, and she knows it. She also ended up giving Scarecrow ideas on how to improve his toxin by accident, unfortunately.
- Not So Stoic: Azumi's comprehensive call that Scarecrow is not a scientist, something he professes to be time and again, finally makes him lose his cool, screaming at her.
- Only Sane Man: One of the thugs, the second one, is the only one who seems to be completely sane and intelligent enough for reasoning in the end of the chapter.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Azumi gives this to Scarecrow, though it will turn out to be a case of Nice Job Breaking It, Hero.
- Reports Of My Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated: Hush tells Scarecrow he thought he was dead. Scarecrow's only response is that that comment "gets tiresome after a while".
- Say My Name: Azumi calls Batman by his real name of Bruce, which prompts him to leave.
- Stealth Insult: Azumi says that she doesn't have time to deal with "the straw man" (Scarecrow), not because she has better things to do, but because she wants a more comprehensive look at the trash in Arkham City.
- Villain Has A Point: Inverted. Hush admits that Azumi has a point in her rant at Scarecrow about not performing actual science.
- Who Writes This Crap?: Azumi wonders who in their right mind would knowingly name a place Crime Alley.
