April Famitsu Shiny Colors interview (Yuki Tanaka)

The one who plays Straylight's Asahi Serizawa, Yuki Tanaka. In addition to the relationships between Asahi and her fellow members which have deepened over this year, she expresses her gratitude to the Producer and her companions.

- As a member of "Shinymas", looking back on your debut 1 year ago, what kind of year was it?

Tanaka: Starting with the CD Release Event back in April, then the "Summer Party"...... Not just Asahi and Straylight, this was my first consecutive year of activity too.


- Performing as Asahi, has your impression of her changed since the beginning?

Tanaka: Rather than my impressions changing, I feel that she's gradually become a concrete existence within myself. At first it was written in the materials, and her existence was depicted on a 2D plane, but the further I deepened my understanding of her through the dramas, she now feels like a walking, talking 3D model.


- Did you gain any special awareness via the dramas?

Tanaka: Within Straylight, Asahi is a kid who, while she doesn't have bad intentions, she speaks her genuine thoughts and what she wants to hear. However, passing through my own emotional filter, this intense impression given to me made it difficult to perform, and my main task was to deal with it.


- So she was extraordinarily sharp, huh?

Tanaka: Especially when conversing with Fuyuko, when I see the script and the two of them are arguing, I'm thinking "Is this OK?" (laughs). But, being conscious of the purity and cuteness of a 14-year old girl helped me change my perspective. After talking to the staff and making adjustments little by little, I feel that I understand Asahi after a year.


- You talked about Fuyuko, but what left the deepest impression on you in-game?

Tanaka: It was during the Thanksgiving, when Asahi stopped dancing. When I received the script, I was very surprised. Afterwards, when Asahi was all by herself, during the scene when Fuyuko and Mei pulled her over I felt a warmth in my chest. Also, the commu implemented with the card "The Sky, Blue, and You" on April 1st this year as well. The words of the Producer, who told Asahi that she shouldn't narrow down her possibilities, I really like them......


- The Producer really moved you, huh.

Tanaka: In "Shinymas", starting with the Producer, the large number of scenes with the words of everyone supporting Asahi really stuck with me, and I feel that I am growing alongside her every day.


She also loves Mamimi!


- Aside from Asahi, who are your favorite idols in "Shinymas"?

Tanaka: Of course I'm devoted to Mamimi-chan. I'm not fooling around here (laughs). I was really happy when, during an event, the cross-unit team "Team Maria" was formed. Mamimi, Rinze and Asahi acted together as a unit. I was really satisfied watching Mamimi take care of Asahi, and I want to tell them both "Thank you" (laughs).


- Also, please tell me your favorite songs beside Straylight's.

Tanaka: I like "Yumesaki After school". It's a song that screams "Youth!", and I enjoyed it for that, but at the Bandai Namco Entertainment Festival where I got to see the choreography up close during the rehearsal, I loved it even more. At the end of the 2nd part, when all the members faced each other, it was "exciting, emotional and hot" (laughs). I couldn't get a word out......!


- That performance was held at Tokyo Dome. What kind of feelings did you have then?

Tanaka: In this scenery I'd never seen, I was honestly desperate to not lose myself in it. Meanwhile, the one playing Fuyuko, Yukimura-san, kept chanting "I'm so nervous I'm so nervous I'm so......", and the pressure just kept increasing. So in a way, that nervous, flustered appearance was the part that saved me (laughs). Behind Yukimura-san was Saya-nee (Sayaka Kitahara, who plays Mei Izumi), and she had plenty of dance experience, so if we were having any trouble she would teach us thoroughly, and I could rely on her. With their support, I feel that was why I managed to do it.


- What a good team you have!

Tanaka: Not only Straylight, but the audience was so warm and inviting, and when we returned after finishing our performance all of the other 283 Pro members welcomed us back with "good work out there~!"......I started crying, it was really such an amazing place. I feel that that was when I was really accepted as a member of 283 Pro.


- What do you intend to challenge yourself with from here?

Tanaka: My goal now is to have a solo Live and event with Straylight. This was something Saya-nee said she wanted from early on, and back then I never really imagined it, but as me and Yukimura-san gained greater confidence as we continued our activities, now that goal is everyone's goal.


- Lastly, please speak about your enthusiasm for the next year of "Shinymas".

Tanaka: We may have joined one year later, but with the energy to not feel that way, we'll continue participating in Lives and events. Aside from that, we have the opportunities to try more new things, so I'd like to challenge them diligently along with my fellow members.
