Valentine’s Day

“HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!”

Chuckles nearly toppled over when his son crashed into the back of his legs. He looked over his shoulder to catch his son hugging onto his cotton candy hair. “Well, good morning to you too, Giggles.”

Living up to his name, the small demon laughed while bouncing on the balls of his feet.

Chuckles turned and sat in front of him, pulling him into a hug and peppered soft kisses across his forehead. “Now what’s this about?”

Giggles started jumping again. “Happy Valentine’s day!”

“So soon?”

“Yes! Did you get anything for dad?”

*Did he get anything for Oni??* Pff, *please*. He already planned a trip to reality for him. They’d be going for a boat ride with nothing but the two of them, the night sky, and the open ocean.

But this was his son he was talking to.

He gasped. “Oh no! I completely forgot! What am I gonna do?? I’m the WORST daddy ever!! Boohoohoohoo!” He fell over, giving his best exaggerated sobs.

Giggles frowned and began to nudge him. “Don’t cry. I can help you make something for dad.”

Chuckles raised his arm up from over his eyes. “You can?”

The demon took off, running to the other room and quickly coming back with an armful of construction paper and crayons. “You can give him a card!”

Chuckles couldn’t help but smile. “Poifect”

Giggles climbed into a chair and laid his materials on the kitchen table. “What do you want it to say?”

“Hmmm,” Chuckles tapped his chin, “Dear Oni, you are the fucking-“

“I can’t write bad words!”

“Oh! Sorry. Dear Oni, you are the *freaking* best husband there is!”

Giggles gave a nod of approval and went to scribbling.

“What you lack in height, you make up for in heart! You’re my favorite person to bug and I love to see you laugh.” Chuckles found his smile fading to a more softer one. “You...always know what to say. You make me feel....*important*. You actually listen to me. Take me seriously. Being around you is...unlike anything I’ve ever known. I want you to feel that way everyday of your life. Takaharu, I love you. Wholeheartedly.”

Chuckles was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard the sounds of crayons falling on the table.

“I ran out of space to write all that, but I drew you and dad on the back!” Giggles held up a crude drawing of him and Oni, holding hands or at least, Chuckles *thought* they were holding hands. It was kind of hard to tell with their fingers that looked like bundles of sticks.

Chuckles couldn’t help snort.

“Thank you. I’m certain he’ll love it!”

Giggles smiled brightly and jumped down to hug his dad. He put the card in his hand and went off to the other room.

Chuckles looked the card over with a soft smile. He was still going to take Oni out for a boat ride but why not give him this too? It’d be the icing on the Valentine’s cupcake.
