  1. The light slips into your eyes as your eyelids shield them. The gentle morning breeze from the open window tickles your skin. You feel a soft mass in your arms as your eyes peel open. You hug the warmth in front of you, absorbing its heat.
  2. A light whining invades your mind as you do so, and your eyes snap open. In front of you, you find a mess of tangled brown hair.
  3. “M-Monika!” You jolt up, your arm retreating from around the girl. Monika doesn’t move, her breath unchanging. Her figure rises and falls with the pattern of her deep breathing. Monika mumbles in her sleep, too quiet for you to hear sitting up. You lay near her, wrapping yourself back around her.
  4. Monika whines in her sleep a bit. “Anon, you’re so lewd…~”
  5. You notice a warmth envelop your lower regions as a cushiony mound wiggles its way into your lap. The lines between you and the sleeping girl blur.
  6. “haah, Anon…~” Monika groans in her sleep, and you can feel a familiar heat, though this time around your nose.
  7. Your arm retreats, and you move to get away from the girl.
  8. Behind you, a sudden, crashing bell rings, and you freeze in place. You look over to Monika, who’s face starts to flush scarlet.
  9. “A-Anon…” Monika swallows hard, and she looks over to you. “I-If you don’t mind, I need to get ready for school.”
  10. Your senses come back to you as Monika manages to stabilize a smile on her lips, her cheeks still beet red.
  11. “Right!” You hop out of the bed and dash out the door, slamming it shut behind you. You can feel your heart climbing out of your chest, like it’s shattering your ribs with how hard it’s beating.
  12. Monika opens the door and throws your shirt and blazer at you, pelting you in the face. “S-Sorry!” Monika calls back before slamming the door shut once more.
  13. The door swings open after a while, and Monika is ready to go. Monika hands you your bag, and you take it from her. “Come on, let’s go, or else we’ll be late.” Monika refuses to look you in the eye. Her face is less flushed than before, but still visibly red. She walks past you and out her door, you follow.
  14. After making it to school, a loud and cheery voice make its home in your ears, forcing you to turn around.
  15. “Anon!” Sayori is running to you, her face in a pout, and are those, tears…?
  16. “I waited for you, you know! Where did you go last night?” Sayori pouts at you, her brow furrowed and her lips in a pout.
  17. “Oh, sorry Sayori. I uh…“ You rack your brain for the best answer to give her, anything but the truth.
  18. “…I was at a friend’s house! Yeah, I made some friends walking home with Monika from school the other day-“ You bite your tongue, and Sayori’s eyes widen.
  19. Sayori looks at the ground by your feet. “Oh. So, you walked home with Monika last night?”
  20. You look away from her. “Yeah, sorry for not telling you. Some stuff came up.”
  21. “No, no, it’s fine, I just…” Her voice trails off.
  22. “So, I’m guessing you walked to school here with Monika too, right?” Sayori shuffles her feet and plays with the tail of her skirt.
  23. “Yeah, we did.” You stuff your hands into your pockets, unsure of what to do with them as Sayori clenches her skirt with her fist.
  24. “Hey, Sayori, I’m really sorry-“
  25. “It’s fine! It’s fine. You don’t have to tell me everywhere you’re going after all, you know?” Sayori looks up to you and smiles, the very corners of her eyes glistening in the morning sunlight.
  26. “I mean, it’s not like we’re a couple or anything, you know? I don’t have to walk home with you every day. In fact, I’m really glad you’ve got new friends to hang out with!”
  27. You place your hand on her shoulder, but she shrugs it off.
  28. “I’ll see you later Anon, I’ve gotta go to class.” Sayori turns away from you and walks towards the entrance.
  29. “Sayori!” You call after her, but she only quickens her pace. She enters the building with her fists balled.
  30. “Ah, ya really botched that one up, didn’t ya?”
  31. You whip your head around to see Danlet on his belly, his chin propped up on his elbows. He watches as Sayori heads farther and farther away, eventually leaving their sight through the window.
  32. “What the fuck do you want now?” You back away from him, your hands balled into fists.
  33. “Ah, I’m just observin’. Thin’s were getting’ interestin’, so I thought I’d take a closer look.” Danlet clicks his tongue through his teeth and shakes his head, still looking at the door.
  34. “Sure is a shame, she always was such a delicate white rose. Ah, but what can ya do now? Seems like ya’ve already picked yer partner, against my warnings. Guwoheheheh…” In a cloud of gold smoke, Danlet vanishes, and you’re left alone as the school bell rings.
  35. “I hope yer havin’ fun there, lad! At least, as much fun as I am! Guwoohahahahahaha!”
  36. The school day ends, and you make your way to the literature club. You gulp before opening the door, the sound resonating in the halls.
  37. You open the door and find Natsuki, sitting by herself against the wall, as well as Sayori, sitting at the desk with her head down. Underneath her arm, a stray piece of paper sits on the desk, warped and stained from a clear liquid.
  38. For your own mental health, you decide not to dwell on what that might be from and sit next to Natsuki.
  39. “What do you want, nerd?” Natsuki shoots you a glare from behind her manga.
  40. “I’m guessing I’m the archenemy today, right?” You cross your legs and lean back into the wall, trying to read some of the page she’s on, but she snaps it shut.
  41. “Listen, I don’t know what you did to Sayori, but she’s really upset, okay?” Natsuki’s voice turns to a whisper, and she leans closer to you.
  42. “Maybe instead of talking to me, you should focus on fixing things.” Natsuki turns away from you with a “hmph!” and buries her nose back into her book.
  43. You sigh. I know she’s right, you think to yourself, I just don’t know what to say to her.
  44. Yuri walks through the door. She looks at Sayori, then to the rest of the club members. She sits down and opens her book alone.
  45. You grab a seat next to Sayori and sit down, pen and paper in hand. You meticulously select the best way to get your feelings across with your words.
  46. Sayori lifts her head up from her desk, her hair in a disheveled mess. She gazes at your pen, watching it flow across the simple piece of scrap paper. She looks to her own poem and goes to slide it in her bag.
  47. “I’d really like to read that.” You keep your eyes focused on your poem, scribbling away as Sayori freezes.
  48. “This isn’t, it’s not, well, mine’s no good, so you can skip reading over mine anyway, Ehehe~” Sayori smiles at you, almost testing her own resolve.
  49. You finish your poem, dotting the last period on the paper slip. “Sayori, I’d like to share my poem with you. Will you share yours with me?” You offer a reassuring smile and look to Sayori.
  50. She looks down at your hand. With a sigh, she takes it from your hand and hands you hers.
  51.
  52. Rainbow
  53. I walked to school and there I found
  54. I felt in my heart that I’d done her so wrong
  55. My very best friend, with her blue eyes so round
  56. Her eyes had been stained with tears from not long
  57.
  58. She smiled and kept a straight face for me
  59. But I could see through all her walls
  60. I knew that when she left, and I could no longer see
  61. She’d weep silently, walking down those cold halls
  62.
  63. I had to think quick, and make good on my word
  64. To keep an old promise and walk happily
  65. I’ve been a real jerk, I’ve been a real turd
  66. But walk home with me, please Sayori?
  67.
  68. Sayori reads the poem and her eyes start to water.
  69. “A-Anon, I…” Sayori wipes her eyes with her shirt jacket. Unable to contain herself, she lunges toward you, squeezing you tight.
  70. You wrap your arms around her and rub her back. “I’m really sorry Sayori, I know how much walking home together means to you, I should have at least let you know.”
  71. Sayori shakes her head on your shoulders. “No, it’s fine, this just really means a lot to me.”
  72. You chuckle, and you feel a tear forming in your eye. “Why don’t we walk home together today, Sayori?”
  73. “Mhm!” Sayori’s head shakes up and down, her arms squeezing you.
  74. As you two share each other’s warmth, Monika walks in through the clubroom door.
