  1. Lander’s Rise to Power (Censored)
  2. After being knocked unconscious he was thrown in the grave on top of Mogedi by Cruck.
  3. While Cruck and Aarchai left for a drink at the Swan&Ox, a hooded figure came forth out of the veil of the night. His minions started digging for the lifeless body of Mogedi and dragged him out, they noticed that Lander wasn't quite dead yet and they let him be. After a few hours spent in the open grave Lander came to his senses. He remembered what happened and he wanted revenge. He added Cruck and Aarchai to his list of grudges. Which has 3 names written on it: Cruck, Aarchai and lord Bran, the lord who betrayed Lander. Lander wanted revenge, revenge on everyone who has wronged him. After a second time Lander was spit out by a party, while he did as much for the party as he could, negotiating for free stay and food at the Swan&Ox, soaking up damage in every fight as much as he could which caused him to get knocked unconscious twice. He got scolded for his recklessness but in his eyes Lander thought of himself as heroic. Proud as he ever was Lander could never cope with people belittling him which has led him into a fight with Aarchai the dragonborn. He won and after his victory he made sure Aarchai survived for the sake of the group, but it was only met with more disdain towards Lander.
  4. Lander Waldstorm was sick and tired of this crap and wanted revenge, especially on Cruck and Aarchai. So he started plotting. His first move would be to find the elf Kardraen Fogwatcher whom his party had rescued from the spider lair. He wanted to see if Kadraen could be of any use to him. Unfortunately, Kadraen’s farm was located at the other side of the town, beyond a wall of guards and the Don’s house. Lander decided that it would be best for him to continue playing dead, so he was not prepared to take a risk that big just yet.
  5. Instead, he met up with the Fishermen guild who very much liked Lander and owed him a favor after he helped them repair their boat. He went to his ever loyal fishermen and told them of the betrayal of his group. The fishermen were outraged at his story and swore to help him get the revenge he deserved - and needed. Some of the men were capable of fighting but none of them had any battle experience. If they were to be of any help, Lander needed to train them in the art of combat. Luckily, he had plenty of spare time. He made a deal with the fishermen to train them in the evening after their work was done. It would take a little while, but he would have a small group of fighters to command as a reward. In the meantime he arranged for the men to bring him a cloak and a mask and took to the shadows while plotting his next move.
  6. At this point Cruck and Aarchai had left the city with the caravan. But that was alright. He needed time to build his power anyway. While the fishermen were out during the daytime, Lander spent his afternoons in the forest, training himself in combat and stealth. When he found he was sufficiently capable of moving around undetected he went into the city and started investigating. His first goal was to open a vacancy of power in the city’s structure. Breaking through the ranks of the guards would be incredibly difficult, and they proved to be of little use anyway. On the other hand, there was the Don. A man of incredible power, but ultimately the head of an organization of criminals. His influence was vast but relied on two pillars: the loyalty of his men and the respect of the citizens. If Lander could overthrow both, the Don would be an easy target to take down.
  7. And so Lander started investigating, digging up dirt on the Mafia’s leader. Anything that would make him less trustworthy. Sure, he had the almost extortionist protection fees, the tampering with the horse race and the theft of public goods for personal financial gain, but that wouldn’t be enough. The Don would talk himself out of those allegations, and he couldn’t readily prove any of them either way. Then, after a week of breaking into every form of legal documentation he could find, he hit the jackpot.
  8. Armed with this new information Lander was already in a position where he could take down the Don easily, but he could make the deal even sweeter. If he played his cards right, the mafia and the guards would be at war before the end of the week. With the help of the fishermen he started to spread the rumors. Cheating. Overpricing. Theft. All over town people were discussing the fading trustworthiness of the Don. Then, just as Morello was starting to pick up on the situation, he hammered in the nail. On the morning of the 13th Dravago a document found its way to the hands of the locals which contained the truth that the Don had been able to hide for so many years.
  9. [Confidential Information]
  10. The city was in an uproar. All of this time they had been played like children, and they weren’t happy about it. Especially the Don’s – at this point former - employees were out for blood. They demanded justification from the city guards, but the negotiations never lasted more than a day. The streets ran red with blood from both sides as the small but battle-hardened army of black knights went to war with the many lazy, weakened guards that Coulport had to offer. In the meantime, for Lander the hunt was on for the Don, who went into hiding as soon as the documents were reported. Since the city officials were busy trying not to get spikes shoved up their rectal cavity, and the rest of town wanted his head, Lander knew his only way off the island right now was the newly repaired bridge. Unless, of course, the bridge were to unfortunately collapse due to “bad craftsmanship”. With the help of his trained fishermen he destroyed part of the bridge. The Don was now trapped on the island. After a short search effort Lander located him, and dragged him out of his hole.
  11. As the war raged on Lander forged an allegiance with the cult of Leira. In exchange for hiding and protection from the violence, Jasmine, the cult’s head priestess, used her illusionary powers to craft a mask for Lander. As long as he wore it, nobody would ever recognize him as Lander Walstorm. The mask was expressionless and a bone-like white, and the mark of Leira was engraved in its forehead.
  12. The guards proved no challenge to the overwhelming prowess of the black knights. It didn’t take long before all of them either died, routed or had a change of allegiance. In the aftermath of the final battle, while the knights celebrated their overwhelming victory, Lander emerged from the woods, accompanied by his fishermen fighters, all clad in fierce white and orange armor. Two of them were dragging the man of the century behind them. The grim festivities grinded to a halt as the enraged criminals caught sight of the one who betrayed them and led them to this bloodshed. Lander climbed on top of a toppled cart and raised his voice.
  13. “People of Coulport, listen to me. Look around you right now. All around you is destruction, bloodshed, anarchy and fear. This man here is the one who caused all of it. Every single drop of blood your friends and family spilled is on his hands. This is the man who extorted you for unreasonably high prices to protect you from nobody. The man who stole your goods and sold them back to you for his own gain. And before you stands the man who brought him down to his knees. The man who exposed the terrible lie that had you all eating out of his bloodstained hand for years. And also the man who can guide all of you towards a better future, built on trust and mutual respect. Not fear. Not a vague sense of tolerance. Respect, pure and simple!”
  14. As the people cheered, a familiar face to both Lander and the Don emerged out of the crowd. Fear began to set in the Don’s eyes as he met the gaze of what had proved to be his biggest mistake. With long and slow, but sure, strides Frank made his way to the impromptu podium. Lander remained respectfully silent as the two faced off with each other. The Don’s eyes began to turn red as he quivered:
  15. “Frank. You understand, don’t you? We were friends. Brothers! Please, get me out of here!”
  16. Frank said nothing as he brought his hand to the Don’s cheek. For a second he stared into his eyes, then kissed him on the forehead. Just as hope was beginning to show on the Don’s face, Frank’s hand turned a deep black. The shade of his touch spread into the Don’s bulging veins as his eyes rolled upwards and he collapsed on the ground. Frank turned his eyes towards the mysterious masked man towering above him. “You wouldn’t happen to be looking for an accountant, would you?”, he mused with a faint smile on his wrinkled face. “You’ll find I boast an impressive resume, if you’ll consider me for a position”.
  17. Lander chuckled to himself behind his mask as he nudged Frank to come up on the stage and join him in his twisted play. With the man who had hated his guts not a month ago behind him he turned his head back towards the crowd. All had fallen silent as they watched the situation unfold in front of them, but now they were getting restless again. The Don was dead, Frank had joined this sudden appearance and the people needed a leader. But could he be trusted? For that matter, could Frank’s judgment be trusted? After all, he had been the Don’s most vehement follower. But who else was there? As the murmurs began to rise in volume, Lander lifted his hand and silenced the crowd once again, showing clearly his natural affinity for leadership. All eyes were on him as he began to speak once more.
  18. “There was an incident before all of this started. A terrible tragedy where a family lost their lives to the mindless violence of a renegade group that made their way through this town. Children were murdered in cold blood as if they were nothing more than collateral damage. I know many of you knew them. I know some of you loved them. I also know that the people responsible are still out there, alive and well. Most importantly, I know where they are. Now I ask you. Will you let me take you by the hand and lead you to new era where truth is the norm? An era where leaders actually lead instead of giving orders from behind a desk? An era where justice is served? If you’ll follow me, I will take you there!”
  19. The crowd erupted in cheers and yelling. Lander knew he had won them over. He turned towards Frank who gave him an understanding nudge, and as his magic empowered his voice a hundred times over he shouted over the noise of the roaring crowd the final stretch:
  20. “THEN LET EVERYBODY HEAR THE NAME OF HEINRICH HELDERHAMMER”!
