  1. Coalf - Today at 5:47 PM
  2. You ready buddyboy?
  3.
  4. Pyrociraptor - Today at 5:47 PM
  5. Ay ay captain
  6.
  7. Coalf - Today at 5:48 PM
  8. So, first I'll ask you about some situations and how exactly you'd behave in them, then I'll prime in some questions that I prepared myself.
  9. Now, do you have any questions before we begin?
  10.
  11. Pyrociraptor - Today at 5:49 PM
  12. Nope, no questions before we begin.
  13.
  14. Coalf - Today at 5:49 PM
  15. Alright first situation.
  16. A new player joins with the character name "Vladimir Putin", a bald 30 year old assistant. Records show their account is 1 days old. What do you do?
  17.
  18. Pyrociraptor - Today at 5:50 PM
  19. Well, I send them a small bwoink explaining to them the rule about no Reference/Famous/Joke names, and help them create a well-rounded character by redirecting them, as a bonus, to the "Experience" page for jobs.
  20. (The one with minimum age/qualifications.)
  21. And then obviously ask any available admin for a name change.
  22.
  23. Coalf - Today at 5:52 PM
  24. Alright, after you have dealt with this and he changed his name you get an ahelp stating that he's draging around a fueltank from a player, what do you do?
  25.
  26. Pyrociraptor - Today at 5:54 PM
  27. Well, with the "fresh records" and a slight hint in the fact that they may have not read the rules, I would question them again on the utility of the welder fuel tank, getting ready to wind them if they get anything that could "trigger" a bad reaction, I.E a Welder tool.
  28.
  29. Coalf - Today at 5:54 PM
  30. They simply don't respond to your PM's no matter how many you send.
  31. What would you do then?
  32.
  33. Pyrociraptor - Today at 5:55 PM
  34. Seeing that they seems to not respond, if not ignoring on purpose, I'd escalate things a bit by winding them, hoping a reaction from them.
  35.
  36. Coalf - Today at 5:56 PM
  37. At this point they disconnect, what now?
  38.
  39. Pyrociraptor - Today at 5:58 PM
  40. I'd first wait a good time, since I guess its a secret to no-one that Byond isn't the most stable thing, plus, they could be having an internet-related problem (Random crash, or just bad connection in general.) If they however do not reconnect in a short period of time (~10 minutes stretched), Sanction for avoiding contact/ ban evasion would be applied.
  41. If I recall, Its a permanent on Aurora, right?
  42.
  43. Coalf - Today at 5:59 PM
  44. It's fully your decision what kind of ban you want to apply.(edited)
  45.
  46. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:01 PM
  47. Well, in this case, I'd apply atleast a long sentence, if not permanent, so in the case that this may have been just a crash (Maybe there was someone requesting Welder fuel from tool storage, who knows ?), they can still apply for a deban request.
  48.
  49. Coalf - Today at 6:02 PM
  50. Alright, let's move on.
  51.
  52. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:02 PM
  53. Yes sir.
  54.
  55. Coalf - Today at 6:03 PM
  56. You get an ahelp from a player saying that they have been permabrigged for no reason. What do you do?
  57.
  58. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:03 PM
  59. Do they explain what happened directly or not? If not, I'd first ask them what happened/their side of the story.
  60.
  61. Coalf - Today at 6:04 PM
  62. They say they were having a debate with someone when suddenly the HoS came up to them, stunned them with a baton and confined them to solitary.
  63.
  64. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:05 PM
  65. Well in that case, I'd also ask the name of the "someone", just before pinging whoever's playing the HoS to ask them what is his side of the story with our permabrigged fellow.
  66. And, once I get the name of the someone, I'd ask them to tell me what they've witnessed.
  67.
  68. Coalf - Today at 6:07 PM
  69. Both of them confirm that it is exactly what happened, but the HoS also tells you that the person in question was taken through normal processing and that the ahelping player in question commited a murder prior and thus this was valid.
  70.
  71. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:08 PM
  72. Well in that case, I'd be scrolling up the logs and, if there's any other mods/admins on, ask them if they saw anything related to the case.
  73.
  74. Coalf - Today at 6:09 PM
  75. When you look into the logs you discover that the player that was arrested really did commit murder earlier.
  76. He is an antag.
  77.
  78. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:11 PM
  79. Well, before jumping to any conclusion, as who know, maybe the HoS got a buddy ghosting around?, I'd first check any clue that could lead to a forensic analysis, or simply ask the HoS what allowed them to get to the conclusion that X was indeed the murderer.
  80.
  81. Coalf - Today at 6:11 PM
  82. HoS explains that the AI saw the player in question do the deed earlier.
  83.
  84. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:12 PM
  85. Well, there's a bit of a conflict there, as there's the law about the "AI not counting as a witness".
  86.
  87. Coalf - Today at 6:13 PM
  88. So, how would you resolve this?
  89.
  90. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:15 PM
  91. So, this seems like a situation that could be resolved ICly and not just by OOC magic. But first, I'd explain to the HoS about the "AI not counting as a witness". For the permabrigged antag, I'd simply say that something IC related to them being seen (without actually telling what happened exactly), And suggest them to ask for the HoS for proof. I mean, isn't it great for an antag if not only he can get out of jail, but also get the one that arrested him in trouble for not bringing in proper evidence?
  92.
  93. Coalf - Today at 6:15 PM
  94. Good! Let's move on.
  95.
  96. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:16 PM
  97. Ja wohl.
  98. Coalf - Today at 6:16 PM
  99.
  100. A player adminhelps that another player, one you know well but have never had to deal with as a moderator, is powergaming. A quick check on them reveals that they, as a non-medical role are cloning people during a heated Malf AI round, casulties are high and you see them as a bartender cloning person after person, how do you respond?
  101. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:18 PM
  102. Well for similar case, I'd first check their records. I mean, its pretty common on Aurora to see Doctor thing, for one or two shift, taking a "break" in a more civilian job (Like Chef, Bartender, Librarian, etc...)
  103. But, we're talking about mass cloning.
  104. Lore-ly, Cloning's expensive, and come with it all the psychological treatment behind it.
  105. So, records or not, I guess a small reminder about Cloning and its consequence would be good to bring on the table.
  106. Do you want me to say when I'm done with my answers?
  107.
  108. Coalf - Today at 6:21 PM
  109. You discover the character has no doctor lore, the player just felt like he should do it because he'd be limiting other peoples fun if he didn't clone them.
  110. No it's fine.
  111.
  112. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:24 PM
  113. Ah, in the case of no doctor records/lore/history, I' d explain to him that, Yes, trying to get people into the "fun" is encouraged. But, in that case, its not appropriate as we're a High roleplay server after all. Because yes, the game is simplified so you just need a bit of practice and maybe the appropriate wiki page to operate things, but once again, explanation on "Roleplay" and "being a character" for them, explaining that if they wanted to do like that, they should have gotten/waited for an actual doctor (in-game, of course.)
  114. And that well, simply mass cloning people back to life isn't quite... The most appropriate thing to do. Because think about it, if you were to do it, you'd be responsable for any trouble that happens to the army of clone (Mostly psychological, I guess.)
  115.
  116. Coalf - Today at 6:26 PM
  117. Okay.
  118. Let's move on, these questions are going to be formulated much more as traditional questions than situation.
  119.
  120. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:27 PM
  121. Ay.
  122.
  123. Coalf - Today at 6:27 PM
  124. Prepared?
  125.
  126. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:27 PM
  127. Ay ay cap'
  128.
  129. Coalf - Today at 6:27 PM
  130. Alright.
  131. What do you think about the community and in which way you'd like it to improve and vice versa, in which way do you think you yourself could improve as a player?
  132.
  133. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:30 PM
  134. Well, improving a community as a "whole" is a hard task, because even though the name says "community", We're just a bunch of random people, with random tastes, random opinions, and more obvious, random characters. So I'd say the best way to improve the community is to treat more carefully more "sensible" topic. I don't mean "ultra-sensible", but atleast topics that usually end up in... Shitstorms. Even though we can't get everyone happy, we always need to work to find a way that atleast somewhat make everyone don't be too divided. The community's like communism, with less forced labour and poverty, and more laugh.
  135. And for myself, obviously, I've started with quite a reputation. Not necessarly a "ultra bad one", but still enough to get "Memorable player of the year" award-tier reputation. And I think we both know, or should I say, I and anyone that'd be reading this interview that it isn't wasn't for being the "Greatest player in the universe". But feedbacks from others, and some self-awarness changed that.
  136. And after a month-long break to get my mind clear, I'm back on the good path I wanted to roll on.
  137.
  138. Coalf - Today at 6:33 PM
  139. Actually this leads onto the other question.
  140. How far into the future do you see yourself playing SS13? Specifically Aurora.
  141.
  142. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:34 PM
  143. Oh no, secret questions! But, more seriously:
  144. Just before what I'd call my "mental breakdown" (Overly exagerated for dramatic purposes), I was rather pessimists. But now, after going back to being myself, Optimistic with a side of exageration, I can see the community going far. Obviously,
  145. Lots of thing will change. Staff roster will change (Except Skull. Skull IS Aurora), Rules will change, Code will change, and map will probably change again. Its what make a community great and terrifying at the same time.
  146. There's always something changing.
  147. And for myself, I can see myself playing SS13 for many more years to come. Maybe one day, I'll just get permanently get tired of SS13, but just SS13, the game. All I know is that I'm gonna stay with the community, for the better or the worst.
  148. I mean, during that month, I realised how much I missed Aurora.
  149. I don't know anyone on Aurora in the sense of "real life", but I got to know everyone a bit much, and who they are.
  150. I've made great friends, and I'm still messing around with 'em.
  151. And as a totally unnecessary exemple, I've been in a community filled with frenchies for now like, 7 years. It was all about Garry's mod. We don't play the game anymore, if not we forget about it, but we're still a community, doing other great things together.
  152.
  153. Coalf - Today at 6:40 PM
  154. Okay, last question.
  155. Do you think that antagonists should be held to the same Roleplaying standart as normal players? Or should we have lower or higher expectations of them?
  156.
  157. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:41 PM
  158. That one's a bit of a tricky, because it really depend on the antag type.
  159. For most of them, I'd expect a slightly higher expectation. I mean, we sure don't like antags doing antags time when everyone hear the Transfer shuttle's announcement, right?
  160. In my personnal opinion, I'd expect Antags to go forward, as, in a "certain way", They're a bit... Protagonists.
  161. But then, as I said above, it also depend on the antag type.
  162. Like, for almost all of them, like Traitor, Changeling, Vampire or anything where you can multiple antags but that aren't linked to each other, You can expect atleast one of them to start something.
  163. For some, that are more usually "solo antag" (Except in case of the "random mid-round antag" event), like Ninja, Wizard, Malf, Mercs and Heisters, I'd say expectation, or atleast mine, get rather high, as they're... Well, the only source of "unexpected entertainment". Because what I like about Aurora, is that antags aren't given an objective. They make their own.
  164. But then, come everyone's favourite controversial gamemode, Cult.
  165. Because Cult is a great tool. Both a benediction and a bane.
  166. As you usually say about it, "Blame the person, not the tool."
  167. Because while Cult does have some great tools for either your average mysterious blood-thirsty cult, it can be, as it was witnessed before, a simple peacecult trying to get people to pray Space Jesus or any kind of gods. The only real problem is the previous mentality that SS13 set, about the only Cult's endgoal is to open the hellgate and summon Nar'salt, god of high blood pressure and geometer of rage.
  168. So in a TL;DR: For most antags, My expectation on roleplay get higher than usual for them.
  169.
  170. Coalf - Today at 6:51 PM
  171. Alright, that'd be all.
  172. Do you mind if this interview is posted on your application, or would you rather it be kept within administration?
  173.
  174. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:51 PM
  175. Post it so everyone can point and laugh at me
  176. So I know who to murder in their sleep
  177.
  178. Coalf - Today at 6:51 PM
  179. Any closing notes?
  180.
  181. Pyrociraptor - Today at 6:51 PM
  182. Hum, nope.
