  1. Pokemon Soul Silver Rocky FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: What does Rocky mean?
  4. A: Doing a glitchless speedrun with Rocky, the in-game traded Onix in Violet City.
  5.
  6. Q: Is this run Manipless or not?
  7. A: This run will be Manipless, because it is a race.
  8. I'm considering doing some runs myself after this race which would have RNG manip.
  9. (Given Rocky always has the same IVs, the only things that would change are getting no encounters before Repels, and most relevantly, getting Pokerus.
  10.
  11. Q: So is this faster than using Raikou?
  12. A: No, the entire point of an alt Pokemon run is that it is not the fastest way to beat the game. Otherwise it would just be...the fastest way, and it'd be the main category.
  13.
  14. Q: So how much slower is this going to be?
  15. A: A fair bit. I think it'll be above 4:30, and the Glitchless run with Raikou sits at 3:33
  16.
  17. Q: How good is Rocky?
  18. A: Good and Rocky do not belong in the same sentence.
  19.
  20. Q: What are the hardest fights in this run?
  21. A: All of them. But Chuck is definitely the hardest.
  22.
  23. Q: What are Rocky's IVs?
  24. A: Given it is an in game trade, Rocky always has the same IVs. They are: 25 HP, 20 Att, 25 Def, 15 Sp Att, 15 Sp Def, 15 Speed with a Hasty Nature and its ability is Sturdy.
  25.
  26. Q: Why do you pick Chikorita as the starter?
  27. A: The main reason is so the Rival has Cyndaquil, which is the best matchup for Rocky. Chikorita also gets the Cut, but so does every starter.
  28.
  29. Q: What are the moves you use in the run?
  30. A: Tackle, Screech, (sometimes Harden), Rage, Rock Throw, Dig, Payback, Earthquake, Stone Edge, (sometimes Explosion)
  31.
  32. Q: What are the rules for alt main pokes?
  33. A: You can find the rules across the series here: https://pastebin.com/uTqgXp6m
  34.
  35. ---
  36.
  37. Q: What are you playing on, it is emulator?
  38. A: No, I'm playing on a 3DS with a capture board installed allowing me to record game footage
  39.
  40. Q: Why not Heart Gold?
  41. A: Heart Gold and Soul Silver are the same for one key difference, the legendary Pokemon you must visit. Visiting Ho-Oh and Lugia take almost the exact same amount of time (Lugia is faster by like ~2 seconds assuming you have good movement), but there's also a Rare Candy in the Whirl Islands that is currently a part of the route, making it a clear choice.
  42.
  43. Q: Why do you play as the girl?
  44. A: The counterpart does the catching tutorial, and the male does it faster, so it’s faster to choose the female for yourself
  45. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI1-PJ7Sy1w
  46.
  47. Q: Why do you name yourself 'I'?
  48. A: Because it's faster to name them one character for text purposes, and the letter 'I' gives a nice spin as if the game was self-narrating
  49.
  50. Q: Do you catch anything else?
  51. A: Sentret (for Surf/Whirlpool), Kenya (for Fly), Shuckie (for Strength), and Lugia (for Waterfall)
  52.
  53. Q: What is WR?
  54. A: No runs have been done as of yet.
  55.
  56. Q: What is your goal time?
  57. A: To win the race.
  58.
  59. Q: Do you plan to do other Alt Pokemon runs?
  60. A: Yeah, in the future. I've already done a few of these in other games, which you can view here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKdCHbtiZdhA63-FROqfqamattnoWR0xd
  61.
  62. I've got quite a few more on my list to do in the future (mostly across Gen 4/5). I definitely don't need suggestions on more - I've thought about and considered everything you can imagine. It's hard to find the right mix of something you get early enough in the game that is actually still interesting to use. But I've certainly got some more planned, it just takes a long time to route the whole game with something else.
