It really had been all worth it.

Life seemed to crawl by now for the two of them. Sometimes, in the quieter moments they would stare back into that life that they'd escaped, one that came with so much power but at the cost of constantly dodging a world that turned against them. But it was so far away now. All the fire and trials were so hazy and distant, growing moreso by the day. But they would never truly forget. For to forget would mean to take what they had now for granted.

Now, instead of trying to hide in whatever holes they could find for safety, the two were carving out an old Greyhound bus they'd bought together. They ripped out the seats and carefully sectioned off the insides, laying out the wiring and making themselves a home. Those days Zerah was almost constantly covered in engine oil and sawdust, but he'd never been happier. They could keep traveling and experiencing, and this time it would be by their own choice.

Zerah especially loved being in the spotlight. Nothing made him happier than seeing people gather to hear him play his guitar and getting met not with glares but looks of joy. It was all he'd ever wanted, to make others happy. It took Candy a while to get used to people watching her do much of anything, but even she was taking a liking to it. He drew out her talent and let her belt it out on the stage, and together the two made their living doing something they loved.

Together with Keziah, they would go out into the world with fresh lives, ready to make the most of what they'd gained, what they'd worked so hard to attain. They could be anything they wanted to be now, and not what the world tried to make of them.

And it wouldn't be long before they'd add a fourth to their family, one made not out of divine fire and spare parts, but just her, him, and love.
