- comparatives tell us about *two* things

remember - superlatives tell us about more than two:
This is the cheapest laptop we have.
This one costs the least.
This is the most beautiful picture (of all)

Brand A costs $100, and brand B costs $90.
Brand B is a little cheaper than brand A.
Brand C costs only $55.
Brand C is much cheaper than brand A.
It costs a lot less than brand A.

Brand A is not as cheap as brand B.
Brand B is not as expensive as brand A.
Brand D also costs $100.
Brand D is as expensive as brand A.
(as...as means they are the same)

Brand D is *just* as expensive as brand A.
Brand B is almost as expensive as brand A.
Brand B is not quite as expensive as brand A.
"almost, but not quite" = very close

Brand C is not nearly as expensive as brand A.
("not nearly" means the price is far away)
