  1. Magic, at its very core, is the process by which mages change the world around them. The study of magic takes perseverance, practice, as well as natural potential. Those without sufficient mana reserves are severely limited in the mage craft they are capable of performing.
  2.
  3. On mana:
  4. Mana is the natural energy of life, or, the soul. It not only empowers magic, but also plays a strong role in the natural order. Should all the mana be drained from an area, for example, it would be effectively unable to support life. Mana reserves in creatures such as the fairy have led to an increased rate of environmental adaptation, or evolution. It is truly the energy of life.
  5.
  6. On magecraft:
  7. Magecraft, put simply, is science. It has repeatable results, and can be studied using the scientific method. There are laws and logic behind the process, leading to several differing magical schools. Alchemy is an offshoot of Thaumaturgical magecraft, being more akin to chemistry, and is much less reliant on the practitioner’s own magical potential. Pure thaumaturgy, on the other hand, allows a mage to directly shape their environment, or in extreme cases, life itself.
  8.
  9. True magic:
  10. True magic is a term for long forgotten arts, which are greater than magecraft. They are not forgotten as in the knowledge is gone, more like no mages of the current era have the ability to command such power anymore.
  11.
  12. Divine Magic:
  13. Divine Magic is magic that is only capable of use by divine creatures, or beings made entirely of mana. Though, examples of beings born with the potential to command this magecraft, or a blessing, while rare, are known to exist.
  14.
  15. Demonic Magic:
  16. Demonic Magic is magic that is only used by demonic beings
  17.
  18. Mana feedback:
  19. Mana feedback is a possible reaction of attempting magecraft above your caliber, using more mana than your body contains or can command. In many cases, it may have a random effect on the body of the caster, almost always leading to death or injury.
  20.
  21. Healing magic:
  22. Healing magic is any magecraft which can soothe and heal living beings, either through sedation or repair. This drains mana quickly, depending on the size of the injury. Several elf bloodlines have developed their own trademark healing spell, with differing properties. Usually used by holy Dark Elf Paladins, who have legendary healing skill.
