[open on the Knossos portal, the Aquitaine about to jump through]

Eighteen years ago we met the Shivans for the second time. They came at us like demons and we were ready for them.

[follow the Aquitaine into the portal; use the fade to white to cut to a battle scene in the nebula, a Sobek attacking the Ravana]

We broke their ships and chased them across thousands of light-years, following an Ancient road into the very tombs of the stars.

[music grim now; go to Capella, watch it explode. As the novas' shockwave reaches the jumpnode, a final transport jumps to safety. We follow it through subspace, and as we emerge, we see a fleet of transports and battered warships slowly dispersing. as this scene progresses: ]

We thought we could beat them, and in the end the best we could do was run. We lost Capella, we lost our fleet, and somewhere along the way we lost our pride. The universe is an infinitely dark and hostile place, and for all our bravery we are nothing but a flicker in the dark.

The Vasudans tell us we are mad with grief and desperation. Maybe they're right. After Capella, our people turned on the military that had saved them, crying of hubris and overweening pride. We had no answers for them, no way to stave off civil war - save one.

[Flash forward a few years. We see the terran gate under construction, we see a few of the new Corvettes on patrol alongside old ships]

We promised them Earth.

The gate is ready. The first probes are already through. We hear whispers from the Security Council, but for now we wait for the order - the signal to take the Lost Generation home.

[We see the Orestes as she powers up. Running lights come on, thrusters flare, and she leaves dock. As she passes us, we see the rest of the 14th BG in the Distance. Orestes turns towards them, and flies away from us to join them.]
