  1. Post-mortem of my 306 run and plans moving forward:
  2.
  3. Run went fairly well. Final time of 4:43:14. DKC 101% was only one second behind my PB, and I was definitely taking things safe and hit no jump rolls, with a death or two. DKC2 was a 1:36, but should have been a 1:34, even though I was playing with quite a bit of slop. DKC3 was poor - no way around it. I'm clearly just not as well practiced at that run.
  4.
  5. The final goal here is to get WR. I'd like it to be in a decent run, with no stupid mistakes. WR is 4:39:51 (by Riz), so I was only 3:24 off of getting it. Here's the major things that went wrong:
  6.
  7. *Terrible Red-Hot Ride: 2 failed Rambi Jumps (opposite failures) and a Dixie hit on the DK coin throw
  8. *Random death in CLC - I somehow failed to jump up the ropes and died right at the end, losing a minute. stupid and costly
  9. *Threw too early on K-Rool 2 and lost a minute in a half.... really? Did I actually do this?! I threw away a literal free minute and a half.
  10. *Lost track of where I was in Zip Your Tree and intentionally died when I didn't have to. Probably lost about 30s here. Tiredness and lack of focus was kicking in.
  11. *Lost Kiddy early in Kaos and died intentionally
  12. *2 bonus fails in Bazaas
  13.
  14. But even with those mistakes, I'm pretty sure (haven't done the math) I was *still* on WR pace going into W7 of DKC3. But then things started to get bad. Messed up the banana bird cave, had some bonus fails along the way, and then took things *really* safely after some bad hits in Poisonous. My Kaos re-fight was sloppy and slow as well.
  15.
  16. Then... W8 happened. I think if I had just a solid W8, I might have still gotten the record, though narrowly. But failed the spider/parrot bonus in Stampede, 2 deaths right before the final bonus of the game in Swoopy, and a bad death where the rocket didn't seem to move even though I was holding the button down in the second half of Rush. Lastly, an early Kiddy hit on K.Rool 2, in which I died on purpose to try again only to lose Kiddy right away on the second try and finish with Dixie most of the fight.
  17.
  18. The lesson? If I can have a strong DKC1, just a decent DKC2, and get some consistency at the end of DKC3, I've got this.
  19.
  20. So here's the plan:
  21.
  22. *spend a week or so on DKC2, grind that time down to a low 1:32/1:31
  23. *spend another week or so on DKC1 - get consistency at tricky areas, maybe get a 51
  24. *work on DKC3 for two weeks or so - gotta be able to consistently sub-2:10
  25. --emphasis here will definitely be on W7/W8, as those will be particularly draining after 4 hours
  26. *Have a week where I do a run of each game, and then some practice on all 3 the night before
  27. *Do another attempt, this time with
  28.
  29. At that point, I'll probably just keep trying until I get it. Somewhere in there the Donkey Festival will happen, and that will be a lot of fun. I have no schedule for when to do the above, but I'd like to get to it soon.
  30.
  31. I won't be doing the 12 hour challenge, although look for Banjo-Kazooie or SMRPG learning to start up after I reach this goal.
  32.
  33. After that, und3n1able will take the record at some point - he's weeks to months away from being good enough himself. And maybe some day after that v0oid will just try it once for a race and take it for good. Maybe eazinn or suzuri goes for the other hundo categories. But it will be fun to hold the record for a little while, and I think I will be able to.
