(7:25:59 PM) Reise: "I'm about to introduce you to the reason why I asked. Basically there's a whole group of people who think it's their job to *manipulate* fate. And one subgroup has declared war on basically everything by creating a mind control device that only attaches to one's strands of fate."
(7:28:28 PM) Ikiryo: "...what? That..." She blinks a few times.
(7:30:22 PM) Reise: "Doesn't make any sense? No, it doesn't...but then, neither does one random stranger lining up over a hundred innocent civilians execution-style. I detected some telltales on the leader...and the banner? That's the name of their little project. 'Peace.'"
(7:32:04 PM) Ikiryo: She's counting something on her fingers as she nods. "That is horrifying."
(7:33:53 PM) Reise: "You said it, sister. And as much as I don't want to dance on the dead, this might be the break I needed to bust this conspiracy wide open and bring in the big guns."
(7:37:31 PM) Ikiryo: "There is no less than fifteen seperate crimes that I am aware of at this point...and I imagine there is much I don't know."
(7:39:34 PM) Reise: "Fifteen?" she echoes, appalled. "Ugh. They're moving fast, then. All the more important..." She trails off as they approach the door to Carol's office.
(7:40:51 PM) Ikiryo: "...I meant within that crimescene. I am a lawmage, I am very good at locating broken laws."
(7:41:28 PM) Ikiryo: Carol soon meets them, the dark haired Sister looking serious.
(7:41:34 PM) Reise: "Gods that's even *worse.*" There's a pause, and she continues, "Fifteen crimes at the scene, I mean."
(7:41:45 PM) ***Reise raises an arm. "Hi, Carol."
(7:42:01 PM) Ikiryo: Carol nods to them. "So what is happening?"
(7:42:40 PM) Reise: "Crime scene in Sigil. I think the 'perp' was a Sid...and infected." She displays a window with her sensor data overlaid on the crime scene.
(7:45:32 PM) Ikiryo: "Ah...ah. I recognise..." She shakes a bit on her feet. "Sorry, with how few of us there are we often know each other."
(7:50:55 PM) Reise: "And from what I've heard, they knew today would be the day," she nods.
(7:51:41 PM) Ikiryo: She nods. "What is the plan?"
(7:53:01 PM) Reise: "Well, first...how well did you know this one? Any friends, any enemies, rivals...?"
(7:58:41 PM) Ikiryo: "He was Gold Faction. Supported opening up Yu Shan."
(8:02:37 PM) Reise: "And someone opposed him, or that, enough to mentally enslave and murder him?"
(8:02:53 PM) Reise: "Though the card *does* say Secrets. I have to imagine they're the most stringently opposed."
(8:04:26 PM) Ikiryo: "Secrets are, generally, not gold faction. You'll find them mostly in Journeys and Serenity." She nods
(8:11:02 PM) Reise: "Mmm...so right now, Secrets is the suspected faction. And they'd have to be well-placed to both get this guy infected *and* broadcast their fancy new Subdepartment's name while pulling the trigger on his assassination."
(8:11:45 PM) Ikiryo: Carol frowns. "The other alternative is that he wasn't infected and he was trying to mercy kill people before it happens."
(8:12:59 PM) Reise: "I got some wonky fate readings. My visor can pick some of that up now, but it's not nearly as refined as what you guys can do. Here." She turns over those same scans.
(8:15:11 PM) Ikiryo: Carol nods, looking over them. The lawmage is being very quiet right now, just putting together a diagram of some sort.
(8:15:45 PM) Ikiryo: "...I think it might have been a mercy killing. Or he thought it was, at least. These are odd readings but they don't line up with Zabotnik, I think he was just unstable."
(8:17:11 PM) ***Reise frowns behind her faceplate. "So he lined up a hundred thirty-odd people because he thought they were all infected, and then killed himself?"
(8:18:06 PM) Ikiryo: She nods. "That's..." She shivers. "I think so."
(8:18:55 PM) ***Reise makes a noise of disgust. "No closer, then. At least I have his card."
(8:19:49 PM) Ikiryo: "It indicates it's likely very soon, if he did it."
(8:23:59 PM) Reise: "Three hours before you arrived on scene, right?" She tosses the question Edrea's way.
(8:25:41 PM) Ikiryo: "Between three and four." She nods
(8:32:06 PM) Reise: "So they're really picking up the timetable, then." She frowns. "I'm gonna have to get in there, and fast."
(8:37:11 PM) Ikiryo: Carol nods. "I could get you into Endings, if not Secrets."
(8:42:35 PM) Reise: "That might be a place to start, unless the front gates will be fine." She waggles her fingers. "But he died with his card in his hand. It's my card now~"
(8:43:54 PM) Ikiryo: "It should get you through most security in secrets...we don't use biometric much because of the broken mask disguises we use fooling them."
(8:57:06 PM) Reise: "So all I'll have to worry about is someone reading my mind. I mean fate."
(8:57:55 PM) Ikiryo: "Yeah." She nods. "Sorry."
(8:58:29 PM) Reise: She shrugs. "They can read it all they like. The next thing they'll have to try is stopping me. That's gonna be a little more difficult."
(9:05:45 PM) Ikiryo: She nods. "You can get to the weave of fate from any of the departments...is there anything else I can do to help?"
(9:06:20 PM) ***Reise pauses.
(9:06:42 PM) Reise: "Maybe...set up some counseling for the Analyst, here? I think that's the first scene of that scale she's been exposed to."
(9:07:59 PM) Ikiryo: Said Analyst sighs. "I've seen murders before, I've kiled in battle plenty...but not to that scale, no."
(9:09:17 PM) Reise: "The worst part is when it's done by someone who's some kind of true believer. If Carol's reading is accurate, this guy was one, and it's open-and-shut murder."
(9:10:41 PM) Ikiryo: "I hope..." She pauses as an AR display appears. "We've got another two instances..."
(9:10:47 PM) Ikiryo: Carol winces. "...that wasn't good timing."
(9:11:21 PM) Reise: "More of the same?"
(9:13:59 PM) Ikiryo: Edrea nods. "Same message, too. It's being marked down as cult behaviour."
(9:14:47 PM) Reise: "Dammit. Carol? Can you go with her? I need to get into Yu Shan, like, yesterday."
(9:15:26 PM) Ikiryo: Carol nods. "I'll see what I can find out about it."
(9:23:38 PM) Reise: "Thanks, you're a doll. Analyst Ellowuyr, stick with Carol. There's a conspiracy to break." And then she abruptly vanishes, with a small pop of displaced air.
