  1. So first, some explanation: there is a longstanding glitch in Metroid Prime known as "Where's The Room," which causes the game to think you're loaded into the wrong room. This 'wrong room' flag disables some safe guards the game has, enabling one to clip inside objects. It has been known for a while that if you could trigger this glitch in the room "Crater Tunnel B" you could use another glitch called Infinite Speed to unload a room you were currently in, inside the Impact Crater and wallcrawl past the Metroid Prime Exoskeleton, which would save around 20-30 seconds. Here is a TAS theory comparison between the fight and the wallcrawl.

  4. The problem is that no one knew how to consistently obtain the WTR glitch in Crater Tunnel B. There are a few videos of people getting it randomly - in 2009 - like this one here:

  6. But no one knew what caused it or how to cause it to happen again.

  8. On February 10th, a new member named Vertigo discovered that by luring a Metroid into a specific spot in Crater Tunnel B, you can have the Metroid reposition you out of bounds with no need for the WTR glitch or Infinite Speed. He recreated it on video which you can see in this footage here: (Filmed on Dolphin, a GameCube emulator)

  10. JustinDM quickly was able to do the clip on console, once and for all proving that Exo Skip is indeed real.
  11.
  12. To get the Metroid into Crater Tunnel B:
  13. *Lure the Metroid to the top of Phazon Core.
  14. *Position yourself between the door frame and Crater Tunnel B while still having the minimap centered on Phazon Core (the Metroid won't follow you if the minimap is on Crater Tunnel B).
  15. *Let the Metroid lock onto you and immediately bomb it off. If you transition into Crater Tunnel B while the Metroid is on you it will instantly die.
  16.
  17. The general gist of how this glitch works is that after you have the Metroid in Crater Tunnel B, you
  18. *Lure him into the corner
  19. *Take damage
  20. *Roll into the corner
  21. Then the game can sometimes reposition you out of bounds
  22.
  23.
  24. e a s t and T3 have since come up with consistent setups for this glitch, meaning that we could potentially see this in real speedruns very soon.
  25.
  26. Because there is no need use Infinite Speed like with the older, theory-only method, this:
  27. A: saves an extra 50 seconds in every category because you don't have to build up speed for ~~12 hours~~ 50 seconds.
  28. B: can be done in low% because it no longer requires Boost Ball, saving up to 10 minutes in Normal and 17 in Hard Mode..
  29.
  30. In total, this trick saves upwards of 1 minute in any%, a tiny bit less in 100% because the fight is slightly shorter, and a hell of a lot more in low% because the fight is around 10 minutes long.
