- S-Link 3 - Twilight (N)
- Canterlot High Library
- You decide to spend some time with Twilight.
- She is hard at work in her usual place by the counter, with a pile of books on either side.
- As you approach the familiar scene however, a firm cough interrupts the silence and your teacher appears!
- Miss Cheerilee: Twilight Sparkle!
- Twilight jumps out of her seat, sending her book sliding across the counter.
- Twilight: Miss Cheerilee?
- Miss Cheerilee: What are you doing here?
- Twilight's expression turns sheepish.
- Twilight: Um, studying?
- The teacher shakes her head and points a finger in Twilight's direction.
- Miss Cheerilee: No! Absolutely not! You are in here, day in and day out. While I appreciate your dedication, you need a break!
- Twilight: Really, I promise I'm fine.
- Miss Cheerilee: I'm not taking no for an answer, Twilight. You can go study somewhere else if you like...
- Miss Cheerilee: ...But, for today, the library is off limits to you.
- Twilight's eyes widen and she shakes her head.
- Twilight: You can't be serious.
- Miss Cheerilee: Quite serious.
- As if to prove her point, Miss Cheerilee moves behind the desk and starts to shoo Twilight in your direction.
- Miss Cheerilee: Go on then! The library will still be here tomorrow.
- Twilight stumbles out from behind the counter in a daze.
- As she moves towards the door, she bumps into you.
- Shaking her head, Twilight looks up and, after a moment, seems to recognize you.
- Twilight: Oh, uh, hi [Player]...
- She adopts a thoughtful look, and then smiles.
- Twilight: Great timing, actually. Would you be willing to accompany me somewhere else?
- Who's to say no to a face like that?
- Sugar Cube Corner
- Twilight asked you to accompany her here.
- Currently, she has her attention split between a worn out paperback, a half-eaten sandwich, a milkshake, and you.
- Twilight: Thanks for coming along on such short notice today, [Player], you really helped me out.
- Twilight: When Miss Cheerilee chased me out of the library and told me to take a break from studying, I was at a loss.
- She looks up and smiles.
- Twilight: I guess it's a good thing you come by so often...
- >Option 1 - Ask if she's enjoying her break.
- S-Link +0.2
- Twilight: Hm? I suppose so; I don't really understand why taking a break is so important.
- She sips on her milkshake and thinks about it a little more.
- Twilight: I mean, what's wrong with studying? So what if you forget to eat every once in a while.
- At that, Twilight's belly rumbles.
- She gives a small, uncertain smile, and then quickly takes another bite of her sandwich.
- Twilight: But I suppose we're all human...
- >Option 2 - Tell her you don't mind helping her out.
- S-Link +1
- Twilight: Well, I wouldn't call it 'helping', exactly.
- Twilight: You see, I really do need to get back to the library, but being with you is a nice distraction.
- She pauses, then looks up at you with wide eyes.
- Twilight: Not that I think you're nice! Oh, wait, you are but, you're not distracting! Even though you do interrupt my studying sometimes.
- Twilight: Oh jeez. I just mean that you're really, well, it's easy to relax around you. That's totally non-offensive, right?
- She gives an anxious laugh and whispers under her breath.
- Twilight: Way to go, Twilight; open mouth, insert foot.
- >Option 3 - Ask if she learned anything interesting.
- S-Link +0.6
- Twilight: Oh, have I ever!
- The girl's eyes gleam with excitement as she shakes her book at you.
- Twilight: You wouldn't believe some of the stories that exist around this area; they're incredible!
- Twilight: Things like women with beautiful, hypnotic voices, evil possessive spirits...
- Twilight: There's even one about a woman who could make any plant bloom just by looking at it!
- She clears her throat, putting on a reserved smile again.
- Twilight: I mean, it's all impossible, clearly, but regional history is always so fascinating.
- The two of you talk for a while of inconsequential things, but inevitably you ask the question: Why did she want you to come along?
- Twilight: Oh; I guess you would like to know that, huh?
- She sighs, toying with her hair a little.
- Twilight: I don't mean for it to sound like I'm using you, but I just didn't want to come out here alone.
- Twilight: You're good company, sure, but it's just hard to be alone when you're in public.
- Twilight: Maybe that doesn't make sense. Sorry, I don't mean to be confusing.
- She offers you a hopeful smile.
- >Option 1 - You want someone to share your space in the public eye?
- S-Link +1
- Twilight's smile widens a little as she bobs her head.
- Twilight: That's almost right; give me a moment to think it over.
- >Option 2 - Yeah, you lost me.
- S-Link +0.2
- Twilight's face visibly strains with the amount of force she applies to keep smiling.
- Twilight: I suppose that was a little much. Let me try again.
- She looks thoughtful for a long moment.
- >Option 3 - You feel lonely in a crowded space?
- S-Link +0.6
- Twilight giggles a little and shakes her head.
- Twilight: Not quite, but that sounds like something I would have written in my diary three years ago.
- Twilight: Ah! Forget I said that! Besides, everyone has a mopey stage, right?
- She waves you off, looking for a quick deflection back to the original topic.
- Twilight: What I really mean is that I don't like being stared at. Especially not in a crowd.
- She looks around the eatery.
- Twilight: It's fine if someone comes into the library, but here?
- Pointing around with her beat-up book, Twilight glances about and then smiles at you.
- Twilight: A girl by herself with a book is the same as one who's under-dressed.
- Twilight: I know they don't mean anything by it, but it's just not the kind of attention I want; not here, not now.
- She offers a conciliatory smile.
- Twilight: It may be a little selfish, but I'll pay today, sound good?
- You agree and continue to talk with Twilight off and on throughout the rest of your time together.
