  2. S-Link 3 - Twilight (N)
  3.
  4. Canterlot High Library
  5.
  6. You decide to spend some time with Twilight.
  7.
  8. She is hard at work in her usual place by the counter, with a pile of books on either side.
  9.
  10. As you approach the familiar scene however, a firm cough interrupts the silence and your teacher appears!
  11.
  12. Miss Cheerilee: Twilight Sparkle!
  13.
  14. Twilight jumps out of her seat, sending her book sliding across the counter.
  15.
  16. Twilight: Miss Cheerilee?
  17.
  18. Miss Cheerilee: What are you doing here?
  19.
  20. Twilight's expression turns sheepish.
  21.
  22. Twilight: Um, studying?
  23.
  24. The teacher shakes her head and points a finger in Twilight's direction.
  25.
  26. Miss Cheerilee: No! Absolutely not! You are in here, day in and day out. While I appreciate your dedication, you need a break!
  27.
  28. Twilight: Really, I promise I'm fine.
  29.
  30. Miss Cheerilee: I'm not taking no for an answer, Twilight. You can go study somewhere else if you like...
  31.
  32. Miss Cheerilee: ...But, for today, the library is off limits to you.
  33.
  34. Twilight's eyes widen and she shakes her head.
  35.
  36. Twilight: You can't be serious.
  37.
  38. Miss Cheerilee: Quite serious.
  39.
  40. As if to prove her point, Miss Cheerilee moves behind the desk and starts to shoo Twilight in your direction.
  41.
  42. Miss Cheerilee: Go on then! The library will still be here tomorrow.
  43.
  44. Twilight stumbles out from behind the counter in a daze.
  45.
  46. As she moves towards the door, she bumps into you.
  47.
  48. Shaking her head, Twilight looks up and, after a moment, seems to recognize you.
  49.
  50. Twilight: Oh, uh, hi [Player]...
  51.
  52. She adopts a thoughtful look, and then smiles.
  53.
  54. Twilight: Great timing, actually. Would you be willing to accompany me somewhere else?
  55.
  56. Who's to say no to a face like that?
  57.
  58. Sugar Cube Corner
  59.
  60. Twilight asked you to accompany her here.
  61.
  62. Currently, she has her attention split between a worn out paperback, a half-eaten sandwich, a milkshake, and you.
  63.
  64. Twilight: Thanks for coming along on such short notice today, [Player], you really helped me out.
  65.
  66. Twilight: When Miss Cheerilee chased me out of the library and told me to take a break from studying, I was at a loss.
  67.
  68. She looks up and smiles.
  69.
  70. Twilight: I guess it's a good thing you come by so often...
  71.
  72. >Option 1 - Ask if she's enjoying her break.
  73. S-Link +0.2
  74. Twilight: Hm? I suppose so; I don't really understand why taking a break is so important.
  75.
  76. She sips on her milkshake and thinks about it a little more.
  77.
  78. Twilight: I mean, what's wrong with studying? So what if you forget to eat every once in a while.
  79.
  80. At that, Twilight's belly rumbles.
  81.
  82. She gives a small, uncertain smile, and then quickly takes another bite of her sandwich.
  83.
  84. Twilight: But I suppose we're all human...
  85.
  86. >Option 2 - Tell her you don't mind helping her out.
  87. S-Link +1
  88. Twilight: Well, I wouldn't call it 'helping', exactly.
  89.
  90. Twilight: You see, I really do need to get back to the library, but being with you is a nice distraction.
  91.
  92. She pauses, then looks up at you with wide eyes.
  93.
  94. Twilight: Not that I think you're nice! Oh, wait, you are but, you're not distracting! Even though you do interrupt my studying sometimes.
  95.
  96. Twilight: Oh jeez. I just mean that you're really, well, it's easy to relax around you. That's totally non-offensive, right?
  97.
  98. She gives an anxious laugh and whispers under her breath.
  99.
  100. Twilight: Way to go, Twilight; open mouth, insert foot.
  101.
  102. >Option 3 - Ask if she learned anything interesting.
  103. S-Link +0.6
  104. Twilight: Oh, have I ever!
  105.
  106. The girl's eyes gleam with excitement as she shakes her book at you.
  107.
  108. Twilight: You wouldn't believe some of the stories that exist around this area; they're incredible!
  109.
  110. Twilight: Things like women with beautiful, hypnotic voices, evil possessive spirits...
  111.
  112. Twilight: There's even one about a woman who could make any plant bloom just by looking at it!
  113.
  114. She clears her throat, putting on a reserved smile again.
  115.
  116. Twilight: I mean, it's all impossible, clearly, but regional history is always so fascinating.
  117.
  118. The two of you talk for a while of inconsequential things, but inevitably you ask the question: Why did she want you to come along?
  119.
  120. Twilight: Oh; I guess you would like to know that, huh?
  121.
  122. She sighs, toying with her hair a little.
  123.
  124. Twilight: I don't mean for it to sound like I'm using you, but I just didn't want to come out here alone.
  125.
  126. Twilight: You're good company, sure, but it's just hard to be alone when you're in public.
  127.
  128. Twilight: Maybe that doesn't make sense. Sorry, I don't mean to be confusing.
  129.
  130. She offers you a hopeful smile.
  131.
  132. >Option 1 - You want someone to share your space in the public eye?
  133. S-Link +1
  134. Twilight's smile widens a little as she bobs her head.
  135.
  136. Twilight: That's almost right; give me a moment to think it over.
  137.
  138. >Option 2 - Yeah, you lost me.
  139. S-Link +0.2
  140. Twilight's face visibly strains with the amount of force she applies to keep smiling.
  141.
  142. Twilight: I suppose that was a little much. Let me try again.
  143.
  144. She looks thoughtful for a long moment.
  145.
  146. >Option 3 - You feel lonely in a crowded space?
  147. S-Link +0.6
  148. Twilight giggles a little and shakes her head.
  149.
  150. Twilight: Not quite, but that sounds like something I would have written in my diary three years ago.
  151.
  152. Twilight: Ah! Forget I said that! Besides, everyone has a mopey stage, right?
  153.
  154. She waves you off, looking for a quick deflection back to the original topic.
  155.
  156. Twilight: What I really mean is that I don't like being stared at. Especially not in a crowd.
  157.
  158. She looks around the eatery.
  159.
  160.
  161. Twilight: It's fine if someone comes into the library, but here?
  162.
  163. Pointing around with her beat-up book, Twilight glances about and then smiles at you.
  164.
  165. Twilight: A girl by herself with a book is the same as one who's under-dressed.
  166.
  167. Twilight: I know they don't mean anything by it, but it's just not the kind of attention I want; not here, not now.
  168.
  169. She offers a conciliatory smile.
  170.
  171. Twilight: It may be a little selfish, but I'll pay today, sound good?
  172.
  173. You agree and continue to talk with Twilight off and on throughout the rest of your time together.
