  1. >Be anon
  2. >You lived just outside of town
  3. >Closer to the Apples than the town really
  4. >You and your dad owned a small machine shop
  5. >Repairs and refits from the Apple's harvester made up a good portion of your business
  6. >The rest came from the town
  7. >Mostly the high school kids crashing into crap and asking for quick and cheep repairs
  8. >That Flash asshole was in here every once in a while as well
  9. >Never wanted to pay for what he got
  10. >Or just wanted you to install a part for free
  11. >His money was good and that's all you cared about
  12. >Looking on the calendar you looked for material shipment manifests
  13. >Finding the right one you noticed that the front clip for Flash's Dad's car wasn't going to be in until tomorrow
  14. >You rubbed the back of your head and let out a thankful sigh
  15. >Circumstance was on your side today
  16. >And you made your way back into your section of the shop
  17.
  18. >Opening the door at the back of the shop you enter a small separate building where you and your dad kept personal projects
  19. >Various tools and parts litter the area save for two canvas covered islands in the center.
  20. >You take a moment and run your hand over the cloth covered object on the left side of the shop
  21. >Which one was which was always blatantly apparent
  22. >In one fluid motion you remove the sheet revealing what lay dormant beneath it
  23. >A 69' Chevrolet C-10
  24. >Its black paint shone in the florescent shop lights
  25. >The squared up front fenders looked mean, like bulging muscle waiting to be let loose.
  26. >The flair-side bed was jimmy'd to make is stockier and better balanced.
  27. >You hardly ever took your truck out of its home
  28. >You hadn't actually driven it much since you parked it here
  29. >It had been turned over to make sure it still ran right after various tune ups
  30. >But you had never really pushed it
  31. >It was a forever project
  32. >You remember the sad state she was in when you found her as you walk around the car to look for any rust
  33. >Sitting in a junkyard rotting away
  34. >$700 and a handshake later and she was headed home with you
  35. >The memory elicits a chuckle from you before walking over to the driver's door
  36. >Opening it you sit down on the worn leather bench seats
  37. >You reach up and grab the steering wheel
  38. >Remembering The first time you and your dad had fired her up the very first time
  39. >How much smoke belched off the freshly painted headers
  40. >How loud it was
  41. >Blinking them away you reach down for the hood release.
  42. >Before long you had the carburetor torn apart on your work bench and had gone back to the engine compartment for the gaskets
  43.
  44. >A tumbling of tools causes your head to shoot up into the hood with a loud clang
  45. >Turning around and rubbing the back of your sore head you see a purple haired girl scrambling to put the spilled tools away
  46. "Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!"
  47. >Her face red from embarrassment
  48. >You set your gasket on the bench before heading over to her and helping her set all your tools right
  49. >Once that was done you looked down to her
  50. >Once she was satisfied organizing all your sockets she turned up to look at you
  51. "Sorry for barging in here. I rang the bell a couple times before heading into the shop and then when you weren't in there I checked back here."
  52. >Dad must be out doing something in town
  53. >You thanked her before turning back to your bench
  54. >Over your shoulder you heard her pipe up again
  55. "I've never seen this before Anon."
  56. >She made her way over to your truck
  57. "It doesn't look anything like Flash's car."
  58. >You turned from you bench over to her
  59. >"Check under his hood. Its mostly my work there too."
  60. >Placing a rag on the fender so she wouldn't scratch the paint with her belt buckle
  61. >She furrowed her brow while she looked over the insides.
  62. >Clearly not much of a gear head
  63. "It just looks like a whole lot of metal and rubber to me honestly."
  64. >...
  65. >You considered for a moment slamming the hood on her head
  66. >She knows not what she speaks
  67. >You head back to your bench gasket in hand
  68. >"What did you need Twilight?"
  69. >She turned to you at your bench as you started working again
  70. "Flash wanted to know if his dad's car was done today."
  71. >Setting your wrench down you spin around on your chair
  72. >"Sorry no. Wont be done for another couple days."
  73. >How the hell Flash gets her to do all his groundwork is beyond you.
  74. >Then again you're kinda glad she came by instead of him.
  75. >The two of you had never really seen eye to eye
  76.
  77. >She thanks you and makes her way out of the shop
  78. >You finish up your work and reassemble everything
  79. >Folding the cover up and placing it in the bed of the truck
  80. >The rest of the night is relatively uneventful
  81. >Waking up the next morning you make a spur of the moment decision as you walked out to your daily driver
  82. >It had been a long ass time since you took you truck out
  83. >You make your way into the shop
  84. >You pull up the garage door
  85. >The bay filling with cold morning air
  86. >Opening the driver door and buckling up
  87. >You smirk as you press the clutch and turn the key at the same time
  88. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3Dz34TUlnM
  89. >You let the engine rev a few times in neutral
  90. >You press the clutch and throw it into first
  91. >You crawl the truck out and into the street
  92. >Before long you were well on your way into school
  93. >Lots of people asked you about your ride that day
  94. >Other than that your day went as they usually do
  95. >At the end of the day you headed back out to where you parked
  96. >Flash and a few of the football players were tossing a ball around in the parking lot
  97. >You secretly hoped he put that ball right through his windshield
  98. >More business for you and dad.
  99. >As you headed out to your car you saw something you didn't normally see
  100. >Another bright red Chevy sitting right next to yours
  101. >With a stetson clad girl looking at your truck
  102. >"Never seen you drive that before? Your brother's?"
  103. >She turned back to you and laughed
  104. "How'd ya guess?"
  105. >You shrugged your shoulders and smiled
  106. >"Just a guess. But the color gave it away I think."
  107. >You two stood there and talked for a bit
  108. >All in all a nice conversation between the two of you
  109. >That was until the football Flash and his buddies were tossing sailed a bit too far over their heads
  110. >Sailing right for your truck
  111. >You moved fast
  112. >Not even caring if you caught the thing
  113. >Just had to make sue it didn't hit your truck
  114. >You ended up just swatting it to the ground
  115. >It bounced off the ground back to its previous owners
  116.
  117. >"Watch where you toss that."
  118. >After Flash picked up his football he looked back over to you
  119. "Whatever anon."
  120. >Putting your book bag into the toolbox in the bed
  121. >Didn't need that thing bouncing around in there
  122. >You hear Flash make his way over
  123. >Leaning on your door
  124. "Anon. Twilight said my dad's car wont be done till later his week."
  125. >You turn your head over towards him
  126. >"Yeah. Parts wont be in 'till at least tomorrow. Wont have em installed for at least a day after."
  127. >He shook his head
  128. "Light a fire under it anon. Maybe stop wasting tome on this ancient pile and get some work done."
  129. >As he turned back he hesitated
  130. >Leaning on your door again
  131. “And stay the fuck away from Twilight.”
  132. >Oh fuck him and his shitty attitude
  133. >Glancing over your shoulder you see AJ is none to please either
  134. >Twilight can do whatever the fuck she pleases
  135. >"Or what? You gonna rev that little hot rod at me?"
  136. >You smile over at him as he turns again
  137. >Pointing over at his Camero
  138. "That thing makes 323 horsepower at the wheels Anon. Runs a 0-60 in 4.3 seconds."
  139. >He waves over at your truck dismissively
  140. "My grandma's Buick could smoke that piece of crap trailer trash"
  141. >You point at his hood
  142. >"Congratulations you can read the brochure Sentry. I could have told you that seeing as I put most of it together with your dad's money."
  143. >Patting the side of your truck
  144. >"Let me know when your little hotrod grows another 200 horsepower and we'll talk."
  145. >He stood there with his friends while you started up your truck
  146. >The big V8 rumbling to life
  147. >As you rolled past him you decided to add a little insult to injury
  148. >You leaned out your window and yelled at him
  149. >”This is what a real engine sounds like Flash!”
  150. >Bringing the engine up to redline you dump the clutch and let the back tires spin and press the brakes slightly
  151. >Just enough to keep the front tires from rolling
  152. >All 454 cubic inches of pissed off horsepower roaring as white smoke began to envelop the bed
  153.
  154. >You knew replacing the tire would cost you a good bit of cash
  155. >That and Principle Celestia would have your ass in a sling tomorrow for doing burnouts in the lot
  156. >Screw it
  157. >No fucks are to be given this day
  158. >Keep them tires burning for another two full seconds.
  159. >As you shifted into second gear you slowly let out the brakes as you rolled down the street leaving flash and his two friends coughing in a cloud of tire smoke.
  160. >As you let off the gas you started to drive out of the lot in earnest
  161. >A big dumb grin clad on your face
  162. >Your smile dissipated as fast as it had spread across your face as a shattering sound echoed through the cabin
  163. >You watched through a baseball sized hole in your rear window as the offending object came to rest in your bed.
  164. >His three friends stood behind the smirking asshole as AJ and Twilight stood by Mac's vehicle eyes wide in shock.
  165. >You open your door fast stepping out and facing Flash and his friends hiding a good sized wrench up your sleeve as you stood up
  166. >You watched as the four of them started walking towards you
  167. >About half way to you you let the wrench fall into your hands slowly
  168. >As they saw this they stopped in their tracks
  169. >Clearly non to interested in meeting the business end of a 16 inch wrench
  170. >You might be pretty brave but you weren't stupid.
  171. >Not 4 vs 1 stupid anyways
  172. >Just as you were about to sit back down into your car you heard someone pipe up
  173. ”How you boys let your cars do the talking?”
  174. >Looking back again you none other than Applejack
  175. >When the fuck is she thinking?
  176. >”What?”
  177. >She looked at you and then back to Flash
  178. “You both have a bit of bad blood between the two of you.”
  179. >You looked back to Twilight with a questioning look
  180. >She just shrugged back at you.
  181. >Clearly just as lost as you were as to what AJ was up to.
  182. >Looking back over to Flash as he stood there with a dumbstruck expression
  183. >”I only race for pink slips.”
  184. >that seemed to snap Flash out of his stupor
  185.
  186. “This car is sells for 45 grand. What am I gonna do with a rusted out piece of crap like that?”
  187. >She smirked and looked at both of us
  188. “How about this then.”
  189. >She pointed at your window
  190. “Anon wins. You pay for his rear window Flash, and you don't see Twilight anymore.”
  191. >It all clicked together in your head
  192. >Clever girl AJ
  193. >She then pointed at flash
  194. “If Flash wins. Anon pays for the parts on Mr. Sentry's car.”
  195. >You smiled and nodded your head.
  196. >Mustering all the confidence you had left
  197. >All of it going into not stuttering or sounding like a pussy
  198. >”Sounds fine to me.”
  199. >Nice.jpg
  200. >All the confidence seemed to drain from Flash's face.
  201. “Fine. I cant wait to tell dad I got his car repaired for free.”
  202. >Applejack nodded her head again
  203. “Right then. There's a half mile of pavement that goes between orchards. We go there 'n we don't have to worry about the blue lights.”
  204. >With that settled she walked over to your truck
  205. >Brushed off the glass from the passenger seat and sat down
  206. “Lets go.”
  207. >As you drove off the lot and towards Sweet apple acres you looked in your rear view mirror as Flash and a few others started off
  208. >You glance over to AJ
  209. >“What was that about huh?”
  210. “I'm sick and tired of watching Twilight get led around on a leash by him. Ever since they first hooked up after prom.”
  211. >You kept you eyes on the road nodding
  212. “Girl need's some sense knocked into her.”
  213. >”You sure I can beat him”
  214. >She looked forward again
  215. “Not on a quarter mile you wouldn't. His car weights about 1000 pounds less than yours.”
  216. >She laughed
  217. “But you've got horsepower And that second quarter mile is where it'll come in handy.”
  218. >You smiled and looked ahead
  219. >”Good”
  220. >Time passed quickly as you turned onto the Apple family property
  221. >Paved road giving way to gravel for a short bit before transitioning to a roughly paved road again
  222.
  223. >Both of you were off fast
  224. >You had put just a little too much throttle into the start and the resulting torque lifted the front end off the ground just a little
  225. >Bringing the car back under you during the shift from first to second you push the pedal back down to the floor
  226. >Flash had gotten ahead during the initial break about a car length
  227. >But now that you had all 4 wheels on the ground you were catching fast
  228. >Pushing the clutch in again you shifted up into third as fast as your arms would let you.
  229. >Now you were really pulling in the distance
  230. >The beast under the hood finally getting to let go
  231. >At this point you were only half a car behind him
  232. >Seeing the dial go all the way to 6000 you slammed the gear into fourth
  233. >Now you were really pulling
  234. >A second later you were a full length ahead of him
  235. >Another gear shift and you were in fifth gear.
  236. >You had to look in your side mirror to see flash
  237. >Nothing he could do now
  238. >When you looked ahead again you saw the red line
  239. >Crossing the line you pump the brakes
  240. >The whole race only took about 20 second
  241. >And yet that was the best 20 seconds of your young life
  242. >This is what they mean when they say you get addicted to speed
  243. >eventually coming to a stop you turn your truck around
  244. >Heading back to the starting line with a big stupid grin on your face
  245. >Once getting there you threw the truck int first again
  246. >Slamming the pedal down you start the truck spinning
  247. >Because nothing says victory like victory doughnuts
  248. >Once the area was filled with a satisfactory amount of tire smoke you brought it to a stop and turned off the engine
