  1. “I still don’t understand why you are wasting your time with that make-believe mumbo jumbo, especially on a Friday night.”
  2. Michelle rolled her eyes. Psychology with a minor in hypnotism, her roommate never missed an opportunity to tease her about her choice of studies.
  3. “It’s not mumbo jumbo, Claire. Hypnotism is a method of probing the deep subconscious using key words and suggestion, and it’s not make-believe either. Hypnosis has been proven to be highly effective at treating a variety of things like helping someone stop smoking or break any other bad habit.”
  4. “Yeah. Or trying to brainwash someone!” Claire snorted as she left the apartment.
  5. Michelle huffed and returned to her book. It was a special request from The Library of Middle Eastern Studies, the lost journal of Abd-Lulwa Jannah, a rare book of poetry and folk magic from the fourth century. Supposedly, Abd-Lulwa had founded a very powerful sisterhood of illusionists and hypnotists before disappearing without a trace. There was just one problem, the book was not written in any type of script that had been translated. That was Michelle’s job, to comb over 400 pages of indecipherable calligraphy and runes to find some sort of reoccurring theme.
  6. “This is hopeless…” Michelle muttered to herself. “Three semesters working on this thesis with next to nothing to show for it, some academic I am.”
  7. Michelle carefully closed the book and placed it on her desk before standing up to stretch. That’s when she saw the clock flashing 11:30 PM. She had been working her fingers to the bone writing papers, giving presentations, and studying. All that was left to do now was have a quick bite and go to sleep. Michelle reached over to switch off her bedroom light. *Click*
  8. An unfamiliar purple glow danced on the walls of the now darkened room. Was someone playing a prank on her? Shining a light through the open blinds? That was when she noticed a much more intense light emanating from between the pages.
  9. Frantically, she picked it up from the desk and adjusted her glasses. The once unknown scribbles and scrawls were moving! They zagged around the pages, undulating like snakes, chasing each other before coming to a slow. All that remained now was crisp, clean English.
  10.
  11. IN THIS TOME LIES THE POWER AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE GREAT GENIE ABD-LULWA JANNAH, MATRON OF THE MOONLESS NIGHT, RULER OF DREAMS AND DESIRES, MISTRESS OF THE MIND AND ALL THINGS MAGICAL. MAY ALL WORTHY FIND IN IT BE BLESSED WITH ETERNAL YOUTH AND DISCOVER THE SECRETS THAT FEW DARE TO SPEAK.
  12.
  13. And just like that, the words on the page began to disappear like a morning fog. It was a few seconds before Michelle realized that she had been holding her breath. How had the letters moved like that? Carefully, almost scared to move a muscle, she exhaled and reached for the next page. Slowly, and with a mix of curiosity and caution, she turned it over.
  14. Nothing. There was nothing written on the next page. And nothing after that. And after that, even less.
  15. Michelle’s heart sank as she dropped to the floor. Was this a riddle? Was her one opportunity lost? There had to be some kind of trick to it. Page after blank, white page she thumbed through the rest of the tome.
  16. “This isn’t fair!” she thought to herself. “I was so close! I nearly had something!” But the book remained blank. Was this a dream? She thought back to what she had read. Ruler of Dreams and Desires… blessed with eternal youth…
  17. Michelle wanted to cry. Whatever she had done, whatever secret she had discovered was gone, probably forever. Her throat began to choke up and fat tears ran down her cheeks. “Eternal youth” She thought. “Why would I need that when I’m already a 24-year-old sitting here crying like a little girl?” Between the sobs, an old memory crept into her head of her last baby outfit, a pair of green overalls. Michelle shook her head. “Why are you thinking about things like that? Come on, someone your age needs to get it together.”
  18. Wiping away the tears from her eyes, Michelle slowly started to stand up.
  19.
  20. *Crunch*
  21.
  22. She froze, realizing that there was something different about her clothes. It was the overalls! But they were her size? And for some reason they bulged heavily around her waist. Slowly, she touched it with her finger.
  23.
  24. *Crinkle*
  25.
  26. Oh no. Michelle knew that sound from all the nights she spent babysitting. But that was ridiculous! She was a college graduate wearing college graduate clothes just a moment ago. Now she was wearing… this, and these... diapers. Even the word sent a shiver up her spine. Embarrassment and panic flooded her system.
  27. “Magic or not I am NOT going to be wearing this.” She thought to herself. “But... what am I supposed to do?”
  28. Michelle stood still for a moment. “Ok, 1: I am wearing diapers. 2: I do not want to wear diapers. 3: …” Her mind fizzled out. “3: …” she tried again. “What do people do when they are wearing something they don’t want to wear? Think Michelle, think!” She paced around her bedroom trying to figure out what was going on. She turned back to where had left the book, but on it now were big purple shapes. Michelle adjusted her glasses, now pastel pink. Where they supposed to be letters? She tried to sound them out.
  29.
  30. MMMM YYYYY FFFF-OW!
  31.
  32. Michelle felt a sharp pain on her thumb. Her brain paused, trying to trace her way down her arm to the tip of her thumb right up into her mouth. She had been sucking on her thumb. Disgust washed over her as she pulled her thumb from her mouth.
  33.
  34. MMMM YYYY FFFF IIII
  35.
  36. But she really wanted to suck on something. That was when she noticed the large yellow pacifier hanging from her overall strap. Normally, this kind of thing would have repulsed her, but this wasn’t a normal day. Still, she really needed something and slowly lifted the pacifier to her mouth before closing her eyes and gingerly popping it in. It wasn’t that bad, she had to admit. Something about the pacifier felt incredibly soothing, like everything she had been worried about really wasn’t that big of an issue. It was a little unpleasant, but it could have been a lot worse dealing with genies and spells.
  37. “Alright, time to figure out this book.”
  38. She made her way to the living room and sat down on the sofa, relaxed.
  39. That was when she felt something in her tummy, like someone was pressing on it. Michelle knew that this meant something, but why couldn’t she place it? Was she supposed to… eat? No, that wasn’t it. She was supposed to go somewhere and do something. Something important. Something she had done plenty of times before. First things first, she was sitting down. She knew that was right. She was supposed to sit down when she felt like this.
  40.
  41. *hssssss*
  42.
  43. A damp warmth spread across her groin. She furrowed her brow. Gradually, she felt the pressure go away. What was it she was supposed to do? Finally, the pressure was gone. It must not have been that big of a deal. She shrugged her shoulders and thought to herself “Whatever it was, I’m sure I’ll remember it.” Now, where was she?
  44. But just before she could lift up the book again, the door handle started to jiggle and click, opening to reveal her roommate, Claire, stepping in.
  45. “Michelle! I’m-b“
  46. Claire turned her head, locking eyes with Michelle. Claire’s mouth dropped, and so did Michelle’s. As the pacifier came tumbling out, she suddenly remembered everything. She remembered how to take off her clothes, she remembered how to read, she remembered… peeing… in her diaper.
  47. Michelle jumped up.
  48. “W-wait Claire! I can explain!”
  49. “You can explain why you’re dressed like a baby and wearing a diaper?” Claire responded dumbfounded, her eyebrow raised.
  50. “It’s because I… um… and you… and then… and the book… um… and then I… and…”
  51. Michelle was at a loss for words, but then something sprang into her mind.
  52. “IT’S BECAUSE YOU’RE MY MOMMY!” she shouted before realizing.
  53. Claire’s face suddenly relaxed. A faint purple flashed in her eyes. Michelle slapped her hands to her mouth. Why did she just say that?
  54. “No- What I meant was-“
  55. “Awww, it’s ok honey.” Claire interrupted. Her lips formed a gentle smile. “You wanted mommy to read you your favorite book, again right?”
  56. “No, I think I accidently hypnomized you.” Michelle tried again “No, I think I hypmophized you.” Michelle said again, trying to emphasize it. “It’s because I hypmomized you!”
  57. Claire pulled Michelle into a warm hug before taking the book. Michelle had never been into girls before, but her face nestled into Claire’s ample breasts just made sense. Claire rocked her back and forth slightly before loosening her grasp.
  58. “That’s right! It’s My First Book: Abbie the Hypno-Genie. But first I think you may need a new diapey.”
  59. Michelle winced. She wanted to protest, but she knew Claire was right. And it would feel good to get out of the wet diaper. Claire gently patted Michelle’s bottom as she guided her back to her room. Only this time, it wasn’t her normal room. Where there was once a queen-sized bed, now there was an oversized crib, her computer desk was replaced with a mountain of stuffed animals, and her bookshelf was now half the height, stocked with all sorts of colorful picture books instead of the thick psychology manuals she was once accustomed to.
  60. Claire swept Michelle off her feet and on to the massive changing table with no sign of struggle.
  61. “Now you just lie down, and I’ll take care of everything.” Claire cooed.
  62. And Michelle hoped she was right.
