Background | Kim Mi Rae is a mixed raced girl who was born and grew up in New York with two older brothers. She had good grades in school despite the many absences she had which caused stressed for not only her but her parents. Due to being absent alot, she had grown stressed and had social anxiety and short term depression which she coped with by entering the glee club in which she found her passion for singing at the age of 12. She then, with her parents support and approval entered the global audition for Source Music Entertainment. She successfully passed the audition which caused her and her family to move to Korea to continue her life as a trainee.

【INTERVIEW】

How did you got into the entertainment?
I got into Source Music Entertainment through a global audition in New York. I sang to them 'Valerie' by Amy Winehouse and passed!

Who's your idol?
Honestly, my idol is my mom. She's the true representation of a hard worker and a fighter. I mean, she came into America with $0 and without knowing a word of English. She had to force herself and work hard to first learn English to then get a job which wasn't easy for her. She worked various jobs working day and night only getting 4 hours of sleep at most. And she's obviously a fighter if she dealt with me, my dad and my brothers for all those years!

What does your stage name mean/why did you use your name as stage name?
I chose Mi Rae as my stage name as it is part of my real name but also because it means 'bright future'. To me, having a bright future means being happy with life and yourself as well as loving what you're doing. I know that debuting won't be as easy as it seems and I will shed some tears but as long as I'm happy with the end result and having fun while I'm doing it, I'll be having a bright future. I hope I can give bright futures to others too.

What are your dreams before you became a trainee?
Before becoming a trainee I always wanted to help people in some type of way which is why I dreamed of being a doctor or a veterinarian. I guess now I can help and heal people with our music.
