  7. UPDATE 10/6/18: ADDED YOUR CHILD'S COMMENTARIES
  8.
  9. =============================
  10. FORD
  11. =============================
  12. SHOOTING STARS:
  13. Were you aware that a shooting star is the actual end of that star's life cycle? The light we see is the last light it emits as it fades from existence. Some people find that sad, others find it beautiful.
  14.
  15. WINDMILL:
  16. This windmill pumps water from deep within the well up to the surface. It allows us to supply water to the entire town without having to travel all the way to the river.
  17.
  18. MILKY WAY:
  19. The stars are highly visible from this town. They were certainly never this noticeable when I resided in the city.
  20.
  21. SNOWMAN:
  22. A snowman, hm? Once, as a young lad, I was determined to build a snowman with proportions in the golden ratio. I even drew up blueprints to ensure it would turn out as beautiful as possible.
  23.
  24. TREE:
  25. I hear the decorating of trees was a tradition originally begun as a ceremony to ward off evil. Since fir trees are evergreens, and do not lose their needles in winter, they became a symbol of life.
  26.
  27. BRAD'S HOUSE:
  28. Sheesh! How does Brad let such unnecessary clutter pile up in his house? If left in my care, I would throw it all out and have this house perfectly tidy in a day.
  29.
  30. =============================
  31. WAYNE
  32. =============================
  33. SHOOTING STARS:
  34. Did you know that some people say falling stars happen when deities peek down on us from the heavens? That's why people make wishes on them, because that's when the deities are paying attention. Romantic, huh?
  35.
  36. WINDMILL:
  37. This windmill is amazing. It's been spinning nonstop since way before I moved here.
  38.
  39. MILKY WAY:
  40. Stargazing has always been a hobby of mine. I particularly love the Silky Way. It's the grandest jewel of the night sky.
  41.
  42. SNOWMAN:
  43. That snowman sure brings back memories. Me and my grandad used to make them together all the time. We'd get into huge fights over whether to use a carrot or a cucumber for the nose. Which is kinda funny in retrospect now.
  44.
  45. TREE:
  46. Boy, now THAT'S a tree. Decorating that thing must have been a blast. Back at home, all of our ornaments were edible. Any that you were especially fond of, you were allowed to eat. Every year, Grandma would make heaps of star-shaped cookies and candies. I always loved those the very best.
  47.
  48. FORD'S HOUSE:
  49. Whenever the clinic's closed, Ford usually busies himself with some experiment or another. I help him out with 'em when I can, but he never tells me what the experiment IS. That's kinda cold, don'tcha think? I mean, here I am, offerin' to be the man's human guinea pig...
  50.
  51. =============================
  52. LISETTE
  53. =============================
  54. WINDMILL:
  55. It's amazing how fast time flies when you let yourself watch the sky and listen to the creak of the windmill turning.
  56.
  57. SNOWMAN:
  58. Where I grew up, they had this tradition where they'd put little flower crowns on top of all the snowmen. Sometimes, I wish they'd do that here.
  59.
  60. TREE:
  61. In wintertime, all the snow makes everything so darn white. Seeing the evergreen tree...well, green still, that makes me feel better.
  62.
  63. =============================
  64. YUZUKI
  65. =============================
  66. WINDMILL:
  67. I hear this windmill was constructed over a hundred years ago. There is no greater honor for a builder than for their work to be cherished across the decades.
  68.
  69. SNOWMAN:
  70. Every time I look at this snowman, I have to fight off the temptation to work a little mischief. I wonder... Would anyone be terribly upset if I gave it a hairpiece?
  71.
  72. TREE:
  73. What a beautifully decorated tree. I hear that's a custom in this town, and that each decoration has its own individual meaning.
  74.
  75. WINDCHIME:
  76. Nothing says summer quite like the sound of wind chimes. The ones I have at my home are all ones I made myself.
  77.
  78. COLD VEGETABLES (TSUYUKUSA & LULUKOKO):
  79. When I was younger and the summer heat gave me fevers, my grandparents would often give me chilled vegetables to snack on. I can still remember just how delicious they tasted.
  80.
  81. FIREFLIES:
  82. I was never very fond of fireflies when I was young. Their ephemeral light reminded me a little too much of my own ephemeral health. Now that I'm healthier, I can better appreciate the grace and beauty of a firefly's glow. It's a strange feeling.
  83.
  84. MORNING GLORY:
  85. The morning glory is one of the quintessential signs of summer. It's a popular flower for hairpieces, too. I get a lot of orders for them during this time of year.
  86.
  87. SILVER GRASS:
  88. According to my grandfather, pampas grass can be used as fodder for cows and other farm animals. Did you know that?
  89.
  90. DRAGONFLY:
  91. Don't you think the glint of sunlight off of a dragonfly's wing is beautiful? They gleam almost like delicate glasswork.
  92.
  93. STRAWPILE:
  94. Once all the straw has been reaped and sheafed, it's time to begin making rice bales. Both chores are hard, tiring work. But when the harvest is bountiful, the joy of that far outweighs the harshness of the labor.
  95.
  96. DRIED PERSIMMON:
  97. I've loved eating dried persimmons ever since I was young. They're supposed to be good for your health, too, so perhaps that was fortuitous on my part.
  98.
  99. THUNDERCLOUD:
  100. Oh, look at that huge, puffy cloud. When I was young, I used to think the gods lived on top of the clouds. In the East, those clouds are called "nyudogumo," from old legends about a large, shadowy monster called an "onyudo." It's a bit of a shame that such pleasant-looking clouds were named after a dark and shadowy monster from folklore.
  101.
  102. SEAGULL:
  103. Look at that flock of seagulls. They look like they're enjoying themselves up there on the sea breeze, don't they?
  104.
  105. =============================
  106. HINATA
  107. =============================
  108. WINDMILL:
  109. Geez, that's one big windmill. Just lookin' up at somethin' that big up above my head spinnin'... spinnin'...Huh? My mouth was hangin' open...? Was not! Shut up! Hey! No laughin', either!
  110.
  111. SNOWMAN:
  112. I've let the kids back at home rope me into helpin' 'em make snowmen before, but this one right here's in its own class. It's things like these that really make places feel different, y'know?
  113.
  114. TREE:
  115. Wayne and I were talkin', and he told me about how the big fir tree you decorate here is supposed to be a symbol of the season. So I told him how we decorate bamboo and pine branches at this time of year, too. We both had a good laugh over how similar it was. Things can look real different at first glance, but when ya take a close look, there's a whole lot that's the same, too.
  116.
  117. WINDCHIME:
  118. Do ya hear the wind chimes tinkling? Each house puts up their own different kind of chime. It almost sounds like they're singin' together.
  119.
  120. COLD VEGETABLES (TSUYUKUSA):
  121. Fresh veggies chilled in spring water are so good. Add a pinch of salt or a dab of miso paste to bring out their sweetness and... Mmm!
  122.
  123. FIREFLIES:
  124. Watchin' the fireflies drift on a summer night's breeze is just the ticket, don'tcha think? Hey! What are ya laughin' for? Believe it or not, I'm an aspirin' actor. I got an appreciation for this kinda thing.
  125.
  126. MORNING GLORY:
  127. Morning glories are really beautiful. I especially like the light blue ones. Don'tcha think those are the best to look at?
  128.
  129. SILVER GRASS:
  130. A lot of the houses close to where I grew up are thatched with pampas grass. Seein' it all here reminds me of home.
  131.
  132. DRAGONFLY:
  133. Didja know Yaichi really likes dragonflies? He always gets a big grin on his face when I catch one and show it to him.
  134.
  135. STRAWPILE:
  136. Every year, I get some of the straw that's dryin' here. I use it to weave stuff like waraji sandals and straw hats. I make some pretty good ones, too, if I do say so myself. I earn a nice little bit of spendin' cash on the side doin' that.
  137.
  138. DRIED PERSIMMON:
  139. When I was little, one of my brothers tricked me into eatin' a persimmon that wasn't dried all the way yet. It was real sour. Ever since, I've just never liked dried persimmons. I like regular ones just fine, but dried? Nope.
  140.
  141. THUNDERCLOUD:
  142. Oh, hey! Look out over the ocean! Do ya see that huge cloud? Man, it's seriously big!
  143.
  144. COLD VEGETABLES (LULUKOKO):
  145. Look at those fruits, bobbin' there in the water. I'm so jealous. I wanna get in there with them.
  146.
  147. SEAGULL: Hey, look! There goes a seagull. Is it hunting for fish over that way, maybe? Dang. I knew I should've brought my fishin' gear along today.
  148.
  149. =============================
  150. KASUMI
  151. =============================
  152. WINDCHIME:
  153. When I was young, my mother gifted me with an etched glass wind chime. It was a personal treasure of mine. One day, a neighbor's son was fooling about and broke it. Now, whenever I hear a wind chime, I am reminded of that incident.
  154.
  155. COLD VEGGIES (TSUYUKUSA):
  156. These vegetables look even more ripe and succulent when you see them being chilled by the cool, fresh waters of the river.
  157.
  158. FIREFLIES:
  159. Some say that fireflies are the embodiments of a human's soul. Watching them with that in mind, their ghostly light does come to seem almost otherworldly. How strange.
  160.
  161. MORNING GLORY:
  162. The morning glories are blooming beautifully. Though nowadays this flower is called a "morning glory," in olden times that name was used to refer to what we now call bellflowers.
  163.
  164. SILVER GRASS:
  165. Watching the pampas grass ripple in the wind sends strange shivers down my spine. Do you not feel something similar? I can understand why, in olden times, people would mistake them for wandering ghosts.
  166.
  167. DRAGONFLY:
  168. Dragonflies are an insect long beloved by society. So much so that their shape is used as patterns on quality kimonos. I could not tell you why, but watching dragonflies reminds me of my hometown.
  169.
  170. STRAWPILE:
  171. After rice has been harvested, the leftover stems are dried to make straw. Straw is an important material in many common household items, such as tatami mats and straw sandals.
  172.
  173. DRIED PERSIMMON:
  174. I see persimmons have been hung to dry. In olden times, the word "sweets" was used to mean sweet fruits, such as persimmons. As time passed, the word evolved to mean sweet foods in general.
  175.
  176. KOMARI'S PLACE:
  177. When I visit Komari's home, I am always served exceptionally delicious tea. I must admit I look forward to it every time.
  178.
  179. =============================
  180. KOMARI
  181. =============================
  182. WINDCHIME:
  183. Come to think of it, Mom told me there were a lot of wind chimes tinkling when I was born.
  184.
  185. COLD VEGGIES (TSUYUKUSA): Sometimes, I'll go chill veggies in the river, too. Dad tells me how to do it. We'll use 'em for sides to sashimi dishes an' stuff.
  186.
  187. FIREFLIES:
  188. Fireflies are so pretty! I like how they don't just blink on an' off like a light. Instead, they glow all soft-like.
  189.
  190. MORNING GLORY:
  191. Every year, I use wilted morning glories to make dye. Hmm... What do I want to dye this year?
  192.
  193. SILVER GRASS:
  194. Pampas grass makes the best toys for kids. You can weave 'em into li'l owl dolls. You can make grass whistles out of 'em. Boy, I had so much fun doin' that when I was a kid.
  195.
  196. DRAGONFLY:
  197. I was real good at catching dragonflies when I was a kid. All my friends used to call me the "dragonfly master."
  198.
  199. STRAWPILE:
  200. When I was a kid, I used to love climbing up straw stacks an' playing in 'em. Jumping down off the top of one took a lot of courage back then, but now it's no problem. I sure have grown up...
  201.
  202. DRIED PERSIMMON:
  203. Mmm, those dried persimmons look like they taste really goooood... Oops! Almost started droolin', there.
  204.
  205. KASUMI'S PLACE:
  206. Kasumi's house always smells nice. Probably 'cause she likes burning incense. Whatever it is, it's a nice an' relaxing scent.
  207.
  208. =============================
  209. INARI
  210. =============================
  211. WINDCHIME:
  212. I find the tinkling of wind chimes sounds much as their name suggests...the gentle chiming of the wind. It is a very pleasing sound.
  213.
  214. COLD VEGGIES (TSUYUKUSA):
  215. I see. People will place vegetables in a basket in the river to chill them. What interesting ideas you humans have.
  216.
  217. FIREFLIES:
  218. Fireflies are lovely creatures. Gazing on their slow dance is enough to make one forget the heat.
  219.
  220. MORNING GLORY:
  221. Morning glories are shy and reserved things. Though they have such beautiful flowers, they only display them for a short time.
  222.
  223. SILVER GRASS:
  224. It is strange how the sound of pampas grass rustling in the wind can soothe the heart.
  225.
  226. DRAGONFLY: Ah, a dragonfly. Seeing them flitting about is a sign that fall has truly arrived.
  227.
  228. STRAWPILE: Hrm? Why is all this straw piled here? Is it to be used for something?
  229.
  230. DRIED PERSIMMON: Why are persimmons being left out in the sun? Is it meant to be some sort of charm or ward?
  231.
  232. =============================
  233. ILUKA
  234. =============================
  235. LALA SALAMA INN:
  236. There's always a nice, soothing fragrance in the Lala Salama Inn. Gram uses her own special aroma oils.
  237.
  238. =============================
  239. SILUKA
  240. =============================
  241. LALA SALAMA INN:
  242. I often come here to get lessons on herbology and being a priestess from Gram.
  243.
  244. =============================
  245. LUDUS
  246. =============================
  247. UNKNOWN PLACE LABELLED AS FRIEND'S HOUSE...THE TWINS' HOME PERHAPS?:
  248. Huh? You think I stick out like a sore thumb in here? Yeah, I think I agree. Being somewhere this fancy kinda makes me feel out of place. It's sorta depressing, really.
  249. (Also in the original text, he says このファンシーな空間にいると、たまにいたたまれない気持ちにナル, which literally more along line 'Sometimes it feels unbearable to be in a place this fancy' rather than implying that he feels depressed for being out of place like in the english version.)

  253. UPDATE 10/6/18:
  254.
  255. =============================
  256. YOUR CHILD
  257. =============================
  258. SHOOTING STARS:
  259. Ooh! A falling star! If you wish on a falling star, it's supposed to come true, right? Hmm...what do I want to wish for?
  260.
  261. WINDMILL:
  262. Three...four...five...Oh! Hi, Papa/Mama! Guess what? I'm counting how many times the windmill turns. Wait...umm...how far had I counted?
  263.
  264. SILKY WAY:
  265. Papa/Mama, there's a river of stars in the sky, right? Is that the river where the prince and the princess in that one story met?
  266.
  267. SNOWMAN:
  268. I wonder who made this snowman. It's a really super good one! I wanna ask them how they did it.
  269.
  270. CHRISTMAS TREE:
  271. Woooow! Look at how big and sparkly the tree is! It's so pretty...!
  272.
  273. WIND CHIME:
  274. What's that tinkly sound? Wind chimes? Oh! They sound really pretty.
  275.
  276. CHILLED VEGGIES (TSUYUKUSA):
  277. Ooh! Look at all the yummy-looking veggies! I wish I could eat them.
  278.
  279. FIREFLIES:
  280. I wanna catch that glowy bug and take it home with me, because it's super pretty. What? I can't? Awww...
  281.
  282. MORNING GLORY:
  283. Boy, the morning glories here sure wake up really early. I wonder who gets up earlier, them or me? I'll have to check sometime.
  284.
  285. SILVER GRASS:
  286. Pampas grass looks a little like a broom, don't you think?
  287.
  288. DRAGONFLY:
  289. Ooh! A dragonfly!
  290. When you try to catch one, you're supposed to spin your fingers up by your eyes, just like this.
  291.
  292. STRAWPILE:
  293. I wanna try climbing up to the top of that haystack. But if I do, won't it fall down?
  294.
  295. DRIED PERSIMMON:
  296. Those dried persimmons are super yummy! I got one before.
  297.
  298. THUNDERCLOUD:
  299. Wooow, look at that cloud! It's all huge and poofy!
  300.
  301. NOCTILUCA:
  302. Are those glows really from bugs? They're all shiny and floaty. I think they're really pretty.
  303.
  304. SILKY WAY (LULUKOKO):
  305. Papa/Mama, look! There's a river of stars up in the sky! Do you think any fish swim in it?
  306.
  307. CHILLED VEGGIES (LULUKOKO):
  308. Mm! These veggies are yummy. I wonder which taste better, these or the ones you grow, Papa/Mama.
  309.
  310. SEAGULLS:
  311. Seagulls have such funny cries. I tried mimicking one once. I couldn't do it too good.
