  3. Initial Thoughts:
  4. As far as rain teams go, you want OFFENSIVE MPert and Kingdra every game, hands down. This means max speed, max att. Speed creeping is fine but being able to outspeed threats without rain is important as well. For example, I run Jolly pert to outspeed Celesteela, Tyranitar and Bisharp outside of rain. Just a thought to keep in mind. On pert run at least three of these moves every game; 1) rocks, 2) waterfall, 3) EQ, 4) Ice punch, 5) PUP or 6) stone edge and on kingdra you want either specs or scope lens, nothing else. You want draco, surf and hydro guaranteed. consider moves like HP fire or electric for coverage. To set rain you want defensive pelipper WITH SLOW u-turn. I always run roost, defog, scald and u-turn. Pelipper has one job so the set is very straight forward. Full SpDef ferro is a god in the rain. Getting up rocks and spikes is critical for allowing my Jolly pert to sweep and reduces the need for any bulk. Seeds and leftovers keep ferro healthy. These 4 mons should make up the core of your rain team, almost every game I would say... It Provides you with two massive sweepers, a phydef wall against strong fighting types and a full spdef wall against lightening or grass types. Coverage can be filled in with other mons like Gengar or Ludicolo. I'll make some comments on each mon below as to some common and/or good sets that may be viable each week.

  6. Pointers for using rain offense:
  7. 1) early game is HUGE, making/not making early predictions can cost you swampert or ferro as they have 4x weaknesses. Make the right predictions early on to keep healthy and maintain momentum. You want rain and hazards early on.
  8. 2) MOMENTUM - momentum is huge for early game rain offense. setting rain and switching around with u-turn is the most effective way to get good positioning with your sweepers. You want to lay down rocks and force your opponent to play around MPert and specs Kingdra.
  9. 3) Hazards are key to sweeping bulky teams or counter mons. Jolly Pert or even Addy doesn't always have the power to sweep without buffs from boosts or items so you'll want prior damage. With kingdra being specs you lock into 1 move and typically you want that to be surf. Getting up hazards will make sure surf can 2HKO everything.
  10. 4) Staying healthy...? Your team does NOT need to be healthy to do its job. You will always be faster so taking a risk to get up rocks or make a prediction for momentum is fine! MPert and Kingdra only need 1HP to win a a game. This means opposing hazards we don't care about (except for tspikes, get them off the field).
  11. 5) Watch out for priority... Ash-gren water shuriken is deadly with specs... try and get him with a trade lol or get some form of priory if you can trade.

  13. Rain in league Play:
  14. Rain is so good on the ladder because its difficult to counter without preparing very specific mons on your team like growth, ferro, tox, celesteela, gastrodon, etc. Unfortunately, in league based play like this, your opponent can easily prepare and counter your rain. Depending on your opponents team you will obviously need to decide if you want to bring rain at all. They will most likely always prepare for rain so not bringing rain could be very beneficial. I recommend grabbing araquanid as part of a free trade and using him to counter trick-room teams. Also, I would try to get waterium Z if you can as Araquanid's z-liquidation in the rain is (I think) the hardest hitting move in the game. It'll OHKO max Def Chansey, Max Def Celesteela, max Def Garchomp. It'll 100% OHKO ANYTHING weak to water, its ridiculous. But honestly, well executed rain is just so strong it's hard to counter even with multiple counters... not to mention, you have THE BEST rain counter in Ferrothorn.

  19. Scarf Lando is so effective because he gets u-turn and rocks... throwing rocks turn 1 makes your opponent say "Hes def not scarf" and having u-turn allows you to maintain momentum which is the most important aspect in the early game when using rain offense.

  29. Ol' reliable. I use him to draw out magnezone early on so I can spike stack. With protect, seeds and rain up, this mon counters magnet pull magnezone believe it or not :). This mon pretty much wallas everything that beats Pert, Pelipper and Kingdra. He's amazing. Gyro ball helps to prevent setting up and usually hits neutral where power whip is more often resisted or misses. I wouldn't recommend any other set

  68. Similar to kingdra. I'd run specs or LO... although I'd NEVER put Ludi over Kingdra, not EVER!

  75. You know the drill here! Hazards and sweep. You can try PUP and adamant for sweeping if you prefer.

  85. Lots of coverage, can rain dance, has u-turn with regenerator. i like this mon a lot and can definitely help add coverage and fill in some holes that your main 4 misses out on.

  94. I love scarf trick to help cripple those really bulky threats like Suicune, Chansey, tangrowth, Celesteela, etc. Can come in handy helping your rain sweepers late game. Gengar can even do his own sweeping late game as you've already shown. I think you've been playing Gengar really well... but you've been relying on him too much. You want to try relying on Pert and Kingdra more often.
