You come to consciousness slowly, the first moments spent wondering why your head is throbbing so terribly. You try to blink away the daze you're in, and then realize that your glasses aren't perched on your nose. After one last moment of confusion, you're hit with a blinding ray of clarity.<p>

The Forest of Dean. The argument. The Taboo on Lord Voldemort's name. The Snatchers. Fleeing through the woods, tumbling over fallen branches before you also fell. A quick hex to the face from Hermione-- some kind of last-minute attempt to disguise you, perhaps?-- and then being swallowed by the darkness. <i>I must have passed out.</i></p><p>

You begin to recognize the voices echoing in the ballroom around you. Draco Malfoy stands by one wall, looking emaciated and mostly terrified. He's flanked by his parents, weary Narcissa and the now ragged Lucius. It seems that the war is having a negative effect on everyone, not just the Order.</p><p>

The crazed Bellatrix Lestrange prowls around the center of the room. It seems that you came to consciousness in the middle of one of her rants. <i>You've been taking things that don't belong to you!</i> she is shrieking, waving furiously at Hermione. <i>Tell me, how did you get this sword?!</i> You see the Sword of Gryffindor glinting in the candlelight, your last hope of being able to destroy the Horcruxes.</p><p>

Kneeling at your side, Ron shifts slightly so he can whisper to you.<br><i>We have to fight our way out,</i> he breathes, the sound covered by Bellatrix's ravings. <i>She's saying she wants to call You-Know-Who. We have to get out before he gets here.</i></p><p>

<i>I don't have my wand,</i> you reply, <i>how am I supposed to fight?</i>

Ron grimaces. <i>I have an idea,</i> he says, <i>but I'm not sure you're going to like it…</i></p><p>

Sometimes, all you need is the element of surprise on your side. Bellatrix didn't even notice that you were conscious, so your sudden attack blindsides her. Draco Malfoy, still frozen at his mother's side, doesn't even fight when you disarm him, snatching his wand from his frozen fingers. Part of your brain recognizes the sound of approaching footsteps. It's not more Death Eaters, however, but Luna Lovegood emerging from downstairs, flanked by-- is that Mr. Ollivander, who first sold you your wand? And on her other side is Dobby the house-elf.<p>

You can hear Hermione explaining house-elf magic from back in her S.P.E.W. days. <i>It doesn't work the same way as witches and wizards' magic,</i> she would try to get you to understand. <i>It's far more complex. That's how house-elves can Apparate inside of Hogwarts-- the castle's magic doesn't contain them. They can appear and disappear at will.</i></p><p>

Ron orders Dobby to evacuate Luna and Ollivander as the fight continues. Narcissa has ere.cted a shield in front of herself and Draco, and though Lucius is actively engaged in trying to duel Ron, she has a firm hold on her son's arm and isn't letting him move from her safety.</p><p>

Dobby has returned, just as Bellatrix grabs a hold of Hermione's arm and drags her closer to her cursed knife. You see Ron break his duel with Lucius and leap closer to Dobby, grabbing hold of the goblin holding Gryffindor's Sword as he moves. <i>Protego!</i> you cry, throwing up a shield as you dive towards the elf. </p><p>

Bellatrix looks up just in time to see the ornate crystal chandelier break free of its chain. Screeching, she jumps back, releasing her hold on Hermione. Ron leaps forward, catching Hermione as she stumbles. You throw out a hand, grabbing onto Dobby as Ron and Hermione make contact. You step forward, feeling the pull of Apparation, just as you hear one last guttural shout and see something glinting in the corner of your vision…</p><p>
