- So at Comic Con yesterday I got to play a 20 minute demo of the upcoming KH3 and this included both the OC and Toy Story demos. Both appeared to play identically to the premium howcase that Biz and other KH people played in May, so I doubt any changes are in play.
- I only watched the first Toy Story cutscene to get a grasp of the voice actors for Toy Story and it seemed decent. I'm not the biggest fan of TS but the voices and how close Buzz/Woody sound to the original is really a nice touch.
- Graphically speaking, the game looks fantastic, especially in TS, but less so on OC. Probably due to how different the stylisation is but it seems a bit plasticy and shiny, which is backed up by the screenshots released the other week. Otherwise, the game looks great and it's so so colourful, far more than any KH game.
- The demo seemd to run pretty well at 30fps and its obvious why they've gone for this rather than 60fps. The particle effects in the Flare Force / Duck Flare esque move and on the Disney Train thing look real nice but come at a cost to the frame rate slightly and going for (hopefully) locked 30 fps will be less jarring than a sudden drop for these cinematics with loads of colours and particles.
- OC:
- The wallrunning stuff is kinda cool but also very limited as its quite restrictive and quite easy to get hit because of misjudging how far you've run and the hit box. The other thing which is one that's frustrating to me is that once you reach an area above where you can walk on, the rocks can still fall on you but you have barely any ability to know this since camera isn't aimed towards them. Otherwise the general gameplay in OC was decent, nice combos and Second Form was neat to use, felt far more consistent to get the Situation Commands than in 0.2. Magic is absolutely incredible in these demos, especially Thunder and Aero based magic, because it just does the job on reaching things, whilst fire and blizzard were good still. Rock titan was really just as you expected it to be based off of its KH1 fight and basically does feel like a tutorial boss, so I do expect it to be the first boss in the game. The only real issue I had hear was the camera and how awkward doing the flowmotion up to the head is. Also a nice note i didnt realise until I plated is that there's animations for Sora sliding down the mountain as well as climbing, so possibly there'll be some sort of sliding shenanigans for other bosses.
- As a side note, I tried movement using flowmotion and you can't chain it as much as you could in DDD, which is just as well as flowmotion more or less removed the platforming in DDD, which i found cool but again just skippable lmao. What you can do here is flowmotion jump square flowmotion.
- TS:
- The difference in options for combat between OC and TS is absolute night and day. Once again, magic was fantastic to use as there was a lot of enemies in the areas. I'd say it's comparable to the amount of enemies on screen for 1K heartless doubled. Combat feels nice here and interacting with the environment feels decent, such as on the roof. I thought it would be hard to move and combat on the roof but it was still rather easy to control. As for the mechs, it's really cool but it feels like you have an entire army on your ass and it's hard to see sometimes. Not really much to say besides that exclusively for this world.
- Overall the combat feels a lot more fluid than 0.2 and very fun to play. The pirate ship is awful, but you can skip the intro sequence to it and quit out of it pretty fast. You can go between the options for situation commands with R2 i believe. The camera can be a bit awkward and movement outside of combat is extremely slow. Other than that, game looks promising!
