Fourth Squadron Theory

This article/report is to discuss the suggestion of a fourth squadron, that has been proposed and suggested several times. I hope this assists with determining when a fourth squadron should be implemented (if any) as well as show the officers we would need to fully-man a fourth squadron. This, of course, doesn't include the admirals needed to man a fourth squadron.

21 sloops - 29 Commanders = 8 Commanders without ships
15 frigates - 22 Captains = 7 Captains without ships
8 SotLs - 6 Commodores and - 9 Admirals = 2 Commodores without ships and 1 Admiral without a ship

This totals to 18 officers without ships. The RMC is able to subtract three officers from this total. Thus, 15 officers are without ships. A fourth squadron, would provide all these officers with ships.

However, there should be at least one Lieutenant per Sloop/Frigate, and at least two per SotL.

Thus:

- Non-commissioned officers -
Lieutenants: 38
- Ships -
36 Sloops/Frigates = 36 Lieutenants
8 SotLs = 16 Lieutenants

We currently have 38 Lieutenants. To meet the above equation, we need 52 Lieutenants. Therefore, we are short 14 Lieutenants.

OR, if one Lieutenant per SotL, we are short 6 Lieutenants. Greenwich is severely behind.
