  9. Tutorials/Fish farming
  10. Fish farming is an easy method of catching large quantities of fish and other items (junk and treasure) by fishing. Most AFK (away from keyboard) designs involve right-clicking an iron door with tripwire above it, causing fish caught to flow into a hopper and then into a collection chest.

  13. AFK Automatic Fish Farming
  14. Pre-1.16, automatic fish farming involves right-clicking a door with tripwire above it and hoppers for collection. It’s a good idea to use an automatic fishing rod dropper to supply new fishing rods when the previous one breaks. The ideal rod is Lure III, Luck of the Sea III, Unbreaking III and Mending. For some AFK farms, it is required to hold down a button or key. For these, they can only be truly AFK if it is held down by something besides a person.
  15. Snapshot 20w12a changed how fishing worked. Now, in order to get treasure loot, the bobber will need to be in a 5x5x4 area of water, air, or Lily Pads.. This broke all old AFK fishing designs. The current designs use a timer to approximate how long it'll take to catch a fish, and then forcefully cause the player to reel it in via trapdoors activated on a redstone timer. These aren't as fast as the pre-1.16 designs.
  16. Snapshot 20w49a added the Sculk Sensor, which powered a new generation of AFK fishing farms. A design by Rays Works uses sculk sensors to detect a bobber sinking into the water when loot bites, triggering the sensor and forcefully causing the player to reel the bobber in via trapdoors activated by a sculk sensor.
  17. Note: None of these work in Bedrock Edition, due to how tripwires and doors work. Mojang also does not want to allow AFK fishing in Bedrock Edition. As such, most AFK fishing designs involve exploiting bugs that get fixed in the next update.
  18. 1.16
  19. This one is specifically noted as working in Bedrock edition.
  20. 1.17+ (Not available in survival until 1.19)
  21. Fish collector
  22. This is a basic design using hoppers to automatically collect fish while being very quick and simple to build.
  23. Non-AFK fishing
  24. Here is a quick run-through of the fishing mechanics:
  25.
  26. Time: A time between 5-30 seconds is chosen each time you cast a line. This can be decreased with Lure I, II, and III, with each level of Lure decreasing the wait time by 5 seconds. If the end time is less then 0 seconds, a new time is picked.
  27. Enchantments: Lure decreases wait time. It decreases the amount of time needed to get a catch. Luck of the sea brings in more treasure. See Fishing for more info.
  28. Open Water: While you can technically fish in a single water block, you cannot catch items from the "treasure" list unless you're fishing in "open water": At least 2 blocks of water in all directions around the bobber (that is, a 5x5 space centered on the bobber), and 2 blocks deep, the whole area open to the sky. Water plants and suchlike count as "water" for this purpose, and lily pads atop the water are okay.
  29. Safety: If you have a decent territory fenced off and lit up, you can choose or make large pool there. Early on, it may be easier to make a safe "fishing stand" over an ocean or river, where you can fish but monsters can't reach you or shoot at you. Don't forget a roof to fend off phantoms!
  30.
  31. So here are the main ways to speed up non-AFK fishing.
  32.
  33. Enchanting
  34. Use an enchanted fishing rod, spending XP on a fishing rod may seem useless, but it is not, you can get amazing loot from fishing. There are 4 enchantments useful for fishing rods: Mending, Unbreaking, Lure, and Luck of the Sea. You can also catch enchanted fishing rods as "treasure" -- they will be fairly damaged, but as soon as you find one with Mending, you can use that (it will heal itself as you fish), and combine other rods with it as you collect the various enchantments. Eventually you will end up with a "god rod": Mending, Unbreaking III, Luck of The Sea III, Lure III. Even if the last couple of anvil combinations are expensive, it's worthwhile, because once you have the full set of enchantments, you'll never need to use the anvil on that rod again.
  35. Mending + Unbreaking
  36. Mending can be useful because you get enough XP from fishing to keep the rod at full durability with just Mending. Unbreaking simply stops the rod from breaking as fast, so it will require less mending and leave more experience for you.
  37.
  38.
  39. Luck Of The Sea
  40. Simple, it gets you more treasure and less junk.
  41.
  42.
  43. Lure
  44. Lure decreases the pre-determined wait time (5-30 seconds) by 5 seconds with each level (minimum 0). With Lure III, catches will be immediate half the time, and up to 15 seconds the rest of the time.
  45.
  46.
  47.
  48.
  49. Repair.
  50. As with every other item with durability in the game, you can combine them in an Anvil or in your inventory to gain more durability. With Mending, a fishing rod will heal with ordinary use -- like other Mending tools, it will be healed if you gain experience in any way, while holding it in either your main hand or offhand. and of course it's in hand while you're gaining experience from fishing!

  382. How can I AFK "click" in Minecraft post 1.13
  383. Since Minecraft's release (and I believe since its creation), there was a bug that allowed you a to repeatedly input a command. I've seen it called the "afk bug", "F11 bug", or "alt tab bug". Basically, you held down some key(s) and pressed f11 to toggle between windowed and full screen. Then the command would continue to be input. This command would persist to be input even after you alt tab to something else. Honestly, I almost thought it was a feature. But 1.13 fixed my "feature" that I used mainly for fishing and cobblestone. How can I AFK click in Minecraft post 1.13 (Java Edition)?
  384. Are you open to solutions external to the game (autohotkey, etc.)? And if so, which platform are you using?
  385. @Bilkokuya platform updated to PC (Java Edition). I would be open to any simple and effective solution.
  386. The fact that all of the top three answers start with "this solution is not minecraft-specific" indicates that the question is actually not game-specific, but instead "how do I auto-click on a PC" and therefore off-topic on Arqade.
  387. @pppery I don't think we should judge this question's "on-topic"-ness based on its answers. OP's issue is specifically for Minecraft. General "auto-click" solutions might not work for Minecraft specifically or might not work optimally with it. It just so happens that many general solutions do work.
  388. @pppery It's in that sense similar to this question: the answer happens to have a game-unspecific answer, but the OP does not ask for it. Editing some of the game files could yield a similar result.

  390. In 1.14, there is a way to afk fish that means you can alt-tab out. You point and press with the mouse, and then unplug the mouse. This provides an autoclick that will work as an afk fisher. However, if you want to then leave Minecraft, you can reload the texture packs, ( fn + F3 + T for Windows, cmd + fn + F3 + T for Mac) and then, while the packs are reloading, alt-tab out. Then, you can alt-tab in and out, no issues. Minecraft will still believe you are clicking, when in reality, you can be playing another game, or watching YouTube, or really anything else. In fact, I just did this while typing out this answer.
  391. Thank you, I think this is the best working AND easiest solution, requiring no external software. I was tampering with AHK's ControlClick and it does work but even without window focus, when I move the mouse I moved in the game. And when you do the f3+t variation you don't have to unplug the mouse for anyone wondering.
  392. Does this still work for you in 1.15.1? Which operating system are you using? I just tried basically the same on Debian: Using xdotool to send a keydown or mousedown event to Minecraft, then switching to a different window and sending the corresponding keyup or mouseup event to that other window. Minecraft stops using the click action as soon as it's no longer the focused window.
  393. UPDATED FOR MAC USERS The method with using FN+F3+T works you just have to bind your use (right click) button to your left click, hold that down and do the above command and it works.
  394. Has anyone else had this stop working recently? Minecraft did a download update recently (my version still shows 1.17 though) and now F3 + T no longer keeps the menu auto-clicking
  395. As Henry Statitovski has pretty much already said, the best way to do this is to:
  396.
  397. Hold down right-click on the mouse.
  398. Press F3 + T ( FN + F3 + T for some users)
  399. Before it finishes loading, Alt+Tab out of the window and let go of the right mouse button. Once it has loaded then you can tab in and out freely.
  400.
  401. One crucial bit of information is that "pauseOnLostFocus" must be "false" to prevent the game from pausing when Alt+Tabing. This can be toggled in-game by doing F3 + P ( FN + F3 + P for some users)
  402. Finally a Minecraft specific answer! :D Note that currently (1.15.1) there's a resource leak bug when reloading resource packs, meaning that your performance will be considerably worse than when playing regularly.
  403. This is the best answer in my opinion. It still works in Java 1.16+, you acknowledged that some users don't need the FN key, and the pauseOnLostFocus setting was the last tidbit of info I needed to get it working.
  404. This solution is not Minecraft specific; it uses the external tool "Auto Hotkey" to emulate clicks
  405. For any auto-clicking, or any keyboard emulation behaviour - I'd recommend looking at AutoHotkey (AHK).
  406. This is a 3rd party program for Windows, which allows you to emulate any number of keyboards and mice, and programmatically control them. Due to it's prevelance, most tasks you wish to accomplish have already been solved and shared online.
  407. There is a usage guide on their official site, for how to install AHK and how to create the auto-clicking scripts you need: https://autohotkey.com/docs/Tutorial.htm
  408. Please note, as with any 3rd party software - usage is at your own risk.
  409. For the autoclicking script itself, here is a simple example:
  410. toggle = 0 #MaxThreadsPerHotkey 2 F8:: Toggle := !Toggle While Toggle return
  411. The effect is, once the key "F8" is pressed; AHK will begin looping the Click action. Once the F8 key is pressed again, the value of "Toggle" is reset, and the loop ends. It allows you to turn on and off the clicking. There are of course, much more complex auto-clicking techniques you can employ using AHK.
  412. Using online tutorials and searching, I'm sure you will be able to tailor this to your needs. Otherwise, specific AHK scripting questions can be answered on StackOverflow.SE
  413. How to make the easiest automatic AFK fish farm in Minecraft 1.19 update
  414. Fish are an excellent item to get in Minecraft. They're a strong source of food as well as being the primary food item for taming cats and ocelots. Fishing is also an exceptional way to earn loot and level up quickly.
  415. Fisherman villagers will sometimes trade for fish, too. Fishing is one of the best ways to collect a lot of food items in a short amount of time, even though they do have to be cooked later; however, it can be tedious. Players often have to stand by the water and click the use button twice every 30 seconds, which gets boring pretty quickly.
  416. In the past, there were AFK fish farms that players had used to rack up enchanted books, enchanted fishing rods, saddles and more. Those have been patched, but they can still be constructed to collect fish. Here's how to do it.
  417. Very simple AFK fish farm guide in Minecraft version 1.19
  418. Previous updates to Minecraft heavily nerfed the AFK fishing farm so that they could only give players fish and XP. Unfortunately, the 1.19 update doesn't do anything to reverse that trend, but it is still possible to get fish while being AFK.
  419. The following Minecraft items are necessary:
  420.
  421. One block
  422. One note block
  423. One water bucket
  424. One fence post
  425. One iron trap door
  426. One heavy weighted pressure plate (iron)
  427. One hopper
  428. Two chests
  429. One fishing rod
  430.
  431. Step 1) Mine out the area
  432. The first step is to mine a four-block long hole. It doesn't need to be more than one block deep. Most of the items will go in these holes.
  433. Step 2) Place the blocks in their places
  434. I'm LIVE, making new 1.19 AFK fish farm in Minecraft. Streaming for at least 2hrs. twitch.tv/raysworks
  435. I'm LIVE, making new 1.19 AFK fish farm in Minecraft. Streaming for at least 2hrs. twitch.tv/raysworks https://t.co/B6Fga6oUF7
  436. At one end, players need to place a double chest with a hopper connected to it. This should take up three of the four blocks that Minecraft players initially mined out.
  437. A single fence post should be placed on top of the hopper. It should remain unconnected to anything in the build. The iron pressure plate should be placed above the the fence post.
  438. Pressure plate on top (Image via Taffy/YouTube)
  439. The note block needs to be on the first block that wasn't mined out. It should be on the opposite end of the chest. Between the note block and the iron pressure plate, the iron trap door should be placed. Place the final unused block on top of the note block.
  440. Step 3) Waterlog the fence
  441. The third step is to place the water bucket on the fence post. This will waterlog it, but it will also flow into the remaining block that was mined out.
  442. Step 4) Catch fish
  443. The method is to use the fishing rod in the water. For this AFK farm, players will need to hold down the 'use' button while facing the waterlogged fence block and looking directly at the iron pressure plate.
  444. Any fish that gets caught will be picked up by the hopper and players will collect the XP.
  445. Step 5) Make it AFK
  446. Unfortunately, making this farm completely AFK is a little challenging. Disconnecting a keyboard or mouse while using the button can trick the game into thinking it's being held down.
  447. There are also keybinds that can make the button get pushed endlessly. Auto-clickers can also help with that. Essentially, while this farm may not provide players with enchanted loot, it will provide a lot of fish, which players can use as a food source while they're on an adventure.
