  1. Stony Brook University. The cs department is great! I feel like the required courses give you a solid background and there are plenty of electives so you can pursue you more specific interests. Plus a lot of cs extracurriculars like Stony Brook Computing Society or SBU ICPC team mean you kind of have a mini community of cs majors. The professors are pretty knowledgeable too.
  2. Outside the cs major, the school is meh. The administration itself doesn't put a lot of emphasis on cs and won't let us host a hackathon, just because they can't be bothered with it.

  4. Hold on just a second. I'm someone who spent my childhood in long island and moved a few years ago to Manhattan. Stonybrook will not give you the "college experience." What it will give you is a really respected CS program. Possibly the best in New York next to Cornell. In terms of your happiness Stonybrook is in the middle of no where, and really isnt a "college town". This decision is based on the merits of the CS program, because if you think you'll be living the "college" life at Stonybrook its just not really the case as compared to a lot of the upstate SUNY schools. I'd recommend you talk to people that are currently attending both schools and seeing what they have to say.
  5. If you're just trying to get out of your parents reaches and live in some dorms then yeah Stonybrook will give that to you. Maybe im just biased because Stonybrook is literally in the middle of nowhere. What are you really trying to get out of the "college experience"?
