  1. Dear Reed,

  5. Since Wesleyan is a highly selective university with more qualified applicants than space and many institutional priorities to balance as well as a strong commitment to equity and inclusion, the admission committee utilizes a holistic review process that carefully considers all candidates in their respective contexts. The degree to which any institutional priorities factor into our decisions depends on the strength of each individual application. It is almost impossible to quantify the “boost” that you are inquiring about because so few students present identical credentials achieved in identical contexts or are likely to contribute to the campus community in the same ways. Regardless of background, talent, or affiliation, the admission committee does not admit students who we are not confident have the academic preparation to successfully manage Wesleyan.

  9. I will share with you a profile of the Class of 2025 in a few days (when it becomes available) and note that the Office of Admission does not publish/share admission rates by demographics. Some of the information you are interested in can be found on the Office of Institutional Research website: https://www.wesleyan.edu/ir/

  13. In an ideal world, all admission decisions across the country would be made completely independent of economic considerations, demonstrated interest, and inflated senses of the predictive powers of standardized tests – especially because scores correlate more closely with socio-economic background than either intelligence or potential.

  17. I hope this information is helpful and wish you well with what remains of the year.
