  1. From within the darkness, I looked upon the small group as they told their stories. To the side of me, my grimore recorded every word they spoke.
  2. It’s been so long since I’ve seen them all smile like that. But, are they really genuine? Maybe. Even if this world is but of our creation, they might still know the joys of this world. But to say that this world is alive…would be a total lie.
  3. Even now, the parts of the world they do not inhabit are starting to fade away and return to the cold grip of death from which it comes. When that happens, the souls of those departed will return to the afterlife with my brother, the god of death. But for tonight, he allowed them to return and enjoy this one simple day with the other ‘victims’ of the Committee’s game.
  4. “Devon…”
  5. I muttered the youth’s name as he looked up to his uncle with a bright smile. For a second, I feared I would begin to cry at the sight. What lies in store for that sweet boy is something that makes even my brother’s heart feel heavy. I wish I could do something to stop it, but every time I try and change his fate, invisible hands take control of me and return it to its original form. The others are no different. Ever since I discovered what would happen to them, the tragedy that would center on them, I did what I could to change their fate. As the god of time, I should have had the power to turn the hands of fate in their favor. But just like Devon, I felt a strange presence take control and stop my every attempt.
