26.
Background

 27.
Being a day care provider is my chosen profession. After experiencing less satisfaction in my prior career in the computer field, I decided to pursue my interest in working with children. I started in 1997 working as a substitute teacher in the Franklin Public Schools. In 1999, I became a licensed family day care provider and continued to be available to sub for several more years on days that I didn’t have day care children.

 28.
When my children were younger, I worked a part time job outside the home and they went to family day care. I understand what it’s like to be “on the other side of the fence”. I was comfortable going to work and feel that this was because I was very comfortable with my provider, the care being given to my children, the different opportunities provided to them and she was flexible in accommodating our family’s needs. I hope that I can foster these same feelings with the families that I provide care for.

 29.
Description

 30.
I provide day care in a safe, nurturing, loving family setting with children of various ages (infant through school age). The children have free play time (and using their imagination), interaction (socialization) with other children, outside play, and activities (i.e. stories/books; music; arts & crafts). We have a routine, but don’t stick to a rigid schedule. I reinforce skills/concepts such as: sharing, cooperation, manners, being polite, helping and understanding/getting along with others. Through various day-to-day activities, children will learn or have reinforced other skills such as colors, letters, numbers and calendars. They will learn by doing, by seeing and from others.

 31.
Environment

 32.
There is plenty of room on the main (1st floor) level of my home where the children spend their inside time. The sunporch and den are dedicated play areas for my day care. Outside, I have swings, slides, climbing equipment and riding toys/bikes.

 33.
No one in the home smokes. We have a family pet (dog-Keeshond) that is very good with and adores children. (The experience of a pet with no work for you!) I can provide you with a breed profile sheet.
