  1. Item #: SCP-XXX
  2.
  3. Object Class: Safe
  4.
  5. Special Containment Procedures: Members of SCP-XXX are to be kept in a 1 x 1 x 1m Plexiglas terrarium with a removable mesh top. The bottom should be filled with approximately 20cm of dirt, and populated with local flora. Artificial lighting is to match a typical day and night pattern. Humidity and temperature should be kept similar to an average humid continental climate.
  6.
  7. Once per week, members of SCP-XXX are to be provided with a small handful of leaves from any plant in the Iris genus. Similarly, every two weeks, members of SCP-XXX are to be provided with 5g of any semi-precious or precious stone. Due to the nature of SCP-XXX's diet, should supply of stone run low, SCP-038 may, with approval and monitoring, be used to produce stones for feeding purposes.
  8.
  9. Description: SCP-XXX appear to be ordinary members of Popillia japonica, or Japanese Beetle, but close inspection reveals that individuals are composed entirely of precious and semi-precious stones, such as tiger's eye and demantoid. Repeated testing has confirmed this. Despite being composed of purely inorganic materials, members of SCP-XXX function identically to normal Japanese Beetles in all respects, including respiration and flight.
  10.
  11. As of ██/██/20██, there are --sixty-three (63)-- sixty-two (62) individual beetles making up SCP-XXX.
  12. Note: "It'd probably be a good idea for any staff interacting with XXX to check their shoes for, uh... rocks before leaving the area." -Agent ██████
  13.
  14. In addition to being composed of stone, SCP-XXX will consume precious or semi-precious stones in addition to a typical Japanese Beetle's diet. While not strictly necessary, consumption of gemstones has been shown to increase the odds of offspring displaying the same properties. Supplying 5g of gemstone bi-weekly has resulted in roughly 50% of surviving offspring bearing identical composition to the previous generation. Any others have shown to be ordinary Popillia japonica. SCP-XXX has an average lifespan similar to those of beetles in their native Japan (about two years), and has identical reproductive habits.
  15.
  16. Due to the self-replicating nature of the beetles, the Foundation regularly checks for reports of unusual activity from Japanese Beetles in the media.
  17.
  18. Addendum XXX-01: The first specimen of SCP-XXX was found by Agent ██████ in a jewelry store in ██████, ████████ when she noticed a beetle in a display case crawling towards an emerald necklace. Upon closer inspection, she realized the beetle was in fact eating away at the gemstone. The owner of the store was given a Class-A Amnesiac, security footage was erased, and both the beetle and necklace were brought to Site-██.
  19.
  20. Addendum XXX-02: Due to incidents involving staff abusing SCP-038, all personnel involved in feeding are to be accompanied by at two security guards when producing food for SCP-XXX.
  21. Note: "Seriously, did you think nobody was going to notice? Next person I see keeping the leftovers from the stone production is getting demoted to D-class." - Dr. ███████
