  1. [ Young. But I still remember it well ]
  2.
  3. [ "Stop," I heard. "Have you not done enough damage already, prince?" ]
  4.
  5. _____________________________________________
  6.
  7.
  8. "What will you do about your crime?"
  9.
  10. "You mean the flowers? Picking flowers isn't a crime!"
  11. "Since-- Since these are my grounds you are a tresspasser!"
  12. "It makes you the criminal!"
  13.
  14. "Maybe. Or maybe you're a mass murderer."
  15.
  16. "Am I?"
  17.
  18. "Sort of."
  19.
  20. "I just thought they looked pretty. I wanted to keep them."
  21. "I didn't mean to hurt anyone."
  22.
  23. "Well, they're dead now. The dead can't feel anymore pain."
  24.
  25. _____________________________________________
  26.
  27.
  28. "Don't feel bad."
  29. "You can still pick them. Just be nice."
  30.
  31. "Nice? There's a mean and a nice way to flower picking?"
  32.
  33. "Yes."
  34. "No."
  35. "But it would make me feel better if you apologized."
  36. "To them."
  37.
  38. _____________________________________________
  39.
  40.
  41. "Oh. Well... I'm sorry."
  42.
  43. [ She began to regrow the flowers I had picked. ]
  44. [ The ones in the basket wilted and grew in the ground once more ]
  45.
  46. "Are you a Princess? Or maybe a wizard?"
  47.
  48. "I am neither."
  49.
  50. [ I used to think she too was a flower. ]
  51.
  52. _____________________________________________
  53.
  54.
  55. [ Now I'm not so sure. ]
  56.
  57. "Do you live here?"
  58.
  59. "No."
  60.
  61. "Do you want to live here?"
  62.
  63. "I have a home."
  64.
  65. "Where?"
  66.
  67. "Not here."
  68.
  69. _____________________________________________
  70.
  71.
  72. [ In another instant I was being covered in petals, her four hands moving quickly, pulling the
  73.
  74. petals apart and showering me. ]
  75.
  76. "I thought you said it was a crime?"
  77.
  78. "They are very forgiving"
  79.
  80. "I think you're a liar. You're not going to try and devour me are you?"
  81. "This isn't a trick, right?"
  82.
  83. "That would be a waste of time."
  84.
  85. _____________________________________________
  86.
  87.
  88. [ Before I had a chance to even get angry, she had a hand over my mouth, hushing me ]
  89.
  90. "See. You're angry. I began to destroy these flowers and you became frustrated."
  91. "Maybe out of my own hypocracy, maybe otherwise."
  92.
  93. "I don't understand."
  94.
  95. "Just be careful who you hurt. If someone were to hurt your people, you would feel bad. Blame
  96.
  97. and guilt would fall upon your shoulders."
  98.
  99. "Did Peppermint Maid send you?"
  100.
  101. "No."
  102.
  103. _____________________________________________
  104.
  105.
  106. [ I think I was mostly fascinated by her existance ]
  107.
  108. ( she places a flower in his hair )
  109.
  110. "You're not a Princess."
  111.
  112. "No."
  113.
  114. "That's a shame. I'm Prince Gumball, by the way. "
  115.
  116. "That's nice."
  117.
  118. _____________________________________________
  119.
  120.
  121. "You're /supposed/ to give me a name in return."
  122.
  123. "I'd rather not."
  124.
  125. [ Her hands, all of them, grabbed me for a moment and I felt scared, then small. Smaller than
  126.
  127. my age portrayed. ]
  128.
  129. [ A kiss to my forehead and she vanished, leaving a small lesson heavy in my hands for me to
  130.
  131. carry for the rest of my life. ]
  132.
  133.
  134.
  135.
  136. I was never given a name, a species, nothing but my basket refilled with flowers. I'm fairly
  137.
  138. certain it was at the very least a crush. I so think about her nearly every day.
  139. My gardens being mainly in memory of her and I would be lying if I said that in hopes of her
  140.
  141. return, I pick flower after flower without thanking a single one.
  142.
  143. My curiosity was peaked that day, for I had never felt so underwhelmed or overwhelmed. So
  144.
  145. insanely infinite and miniscule and aware of how little I knew this world contained and what
  146.
  147. the world did not contain. In my free time I like to imagine what sort of realm she is from,
  148.
  149. if she is even real, and what her domain resembles. Maybe she lived in one of the flowers I
  150.
  151. picked? Maybe I destroyed her home and she is left wandering, wandering, wandering Ooh until a
  152.
  153. new flower opens up and returns her home.
