The Political Cycle:
1) We should do this thing because the people want us to and we'll get lots of power, political connections, and campaign fund kick backs.
2) Now that it's implemented the people don't like it anymore? Ignore it, make excuses.
3) Most businesses and the economy are suffering because of it? Ignore it, make excuses.
4) The failure of this policy is so widely known that it has become a common joke by comedians and is culturally accepted as one of the major problems holding the country back? Ignore it, make excuses.
5) Oh crap, it's actually messing with my personal life!? Uh hey Senator Whatsurface, what were people complaining about last year about this policy?.. Yeah yeah that sounds good, let's have a press conference and write up another bill with a bunch of stuff in it to 'fix this'.
6) Repeat step 1.
