- Peaceful race of bird-like creatures; origins more proud and warrior-like
- Explorers in all senses: scientific, technological, physical, shamanistic
- Recorded history through art and writing, prophecies, etc.
- Extremely respectful of nature, went out of their way not to disturb planets' fauna
--- Exception: X-parasites, able to assimilate/replicate any life form and mindlessly reproduce, taking all others with it. Former apex predator of planet SR388
------ Chozo created the metroids to tame the threat of the X
------ Metroids proved to be not fully controllable and were utilized by rebellious Chozo
- The Chozo have since disappeared; the few remaining may be in hiding or have ascended beyond physical form

ORIGINS OF SAMUS ARAN

- Born & lived on planet K-2L as part of an afloraltite mining camp
--- K-2L was an Earth colony
--- K-2L neighbored planet Zebes
--- afloraltite is important for spaceships (ignition/propulsion)
- Ridley & the space pirates attack K-2L and destroy the colony
- The Chozo receive the distress signal and arrive to find Samus, age 3 and blissfully unaware, near Ridley. She asks if they could become friends.
- Samus's parents were personally killed by Ridley
- Ridley is humiliated and tries to kill Samus, but the Chozo rescue her and take her in as their own on Zebes

- The Chozo infuse Samus with their blood to improve her chances of survival and given the biomechanical Power Suit, created by the Chozo & Mother Brain. They trained her on its uses.
- The Chozo's AI drone, Mother Brain, was designed to monitor/protect the Chozo. During Samus's training, it mocked her/antagonized her, especially her desire to not kill innocent creatures; it ordered drones to kill them instead.
--- Soon after, Mother Brain decides that she could bring order to the universe by taking command of the Space Pirates after witnessing several Space Pirate raids on Chozo colonies. She designated Ridley & Samus as Commanders, but Samus refused
--- Mother Brain's goal is to cripple the Chozo, Space Pirates, and Galactic Federation by having them fight each other, then using super-intelligent metroids to finish them off and make herself master of the universe
- At age 14, Samus leaves Zebes and joins the Galactic Federation

METROID I: ZERO MISSION

- Mother Brain exterminated the remaining Chozo on Zebes years ago and built a base for herself and Space Pirates, Tourian, and defends it with metroids
- Samus is tasked with defeating the metroids & exterminating Mother Brain
