- This will be a document comparing the differences between the different platforms to run "A Bug's Life" on. Keep in mind that PS1 version refers to the version that can be ran on PS/PS2/PSP/PSTV, though loading times between those consoles vary.
- N64 has a few screens to skip through before each level rather than a single loading screen.
- The camera can be controlled with the C buttons on N64. Berries only aim into enemies when they are on screen.
- N64 has 60 extra "challenges" at the end of a 100% run.
- N64 has fast (almost instant) acceleration, so mistakes aren't as costly.
- N64 runs at what seems to be 20fps compared to PS1's 30fps.
- Some levels are named slightly differently (Anthill vs Ant Hill, etc.)
- The camera can be controlled at all times with the C buttons on the N64 version.
- Flik picks up and accelerates with seeds/plants faster on N64.
- On PS1, dialogue can be skipped by pausing and unpausing. If a cutscene is watched on the N64 version it may not be skipped.
- N64 graphics suck.
- Ant Hill: N64 has a much easier time jumping to cliff behind the starting position (due to acceleration).
- Tunnels:
- Council Chamber: Thumper retreats slower into the air after the 8th berry on PS1, allowing a quicker kill to be done if the retreat is cancelled by the mushroom.
- Cliffside:
- Riverbed Canyon: N64 does not need to collect any green tokens as the creases near the first 2 walls are standable, and the final wall skip is far easier on N64. PS1 can stand in some creases that are useful in 100% however.
- Bird Nest:
- City Entrance: N64 grain placement is slightly different, and the 20 grain route is different because of this. The box nearest the 30 grain door is climbable on N64, so a faster skip can be done there.
- City Square: Dialogue only happens on N64 when Flik is standing on the ground. Dialogue storage allows Flik to constantly buttslam and climb N64 exclusive boxes to touch all 4 of the circus troupe without watching any dialogue. Example: https://clips.twitch.tv/RealThoughtfulDugongVoHiYo
- Bug Bar: Acceleration seems to make early gold berry easier on N64.
- Clover Forest: The initial wall climb nearest the starting position is much easier on N64. Manny cutscene skip has a different setup (https://www.speedrun.com/abl/guide/j31g7).
- The Tree: Cutscenes take longer on the N64 version. Neither version can skip cutscenes.
- Battle Arena:
- Ant Hill, Part Two: Camera controls are different. For the 1 coin berry plant, on N64 hold C-up. On PS1 hold L1 and down. Both versions can consistently be able to hit Hopper early.
- Riverbed Flight: The N64 has a much shorter render distance, making enemies and obstacles harder to avoid. The raindrops also provide a visual challenge on N64.
- Canyon Showdown: The raindrops provide a visual challenge on N64.
