- EXT. DESERT MILITARY BASE - DAY
- An SAS officer, RYAN, (mid-40s) walks alongside a bearded
- American in civilian clothing, DARREN, (mid-30s).
- DARREN
- Look, Ryan. You have to work with
- me here. The boys up top can get
- you hard, pipe hitting medic. But
- you have to-
- RYAN
- We have medics here, why not one of
- them?
- DARREN
- Because they don't have the same
- level of training as your guys do.
- RYAN
- I don't want to have to teach
- someone that hasn't been in country
- our playbook here, I want someone
- who understands and has been
- through this enough to know what to
- do. You got any names or you want
- me to start asking the M.O.D. For
- help?
- DARREN
- I had a feeling you planned to ask
- that.
- Darren sighs.
- DARREN
- You Brits never make it easy for
- us, do you?
- Ryan grins.
- RYAN
- How do you think we felt about you
- in 1776?
- DARREN
- Based on your criteria, we found
- three people. One has never been
- outside the wire, the other one has
- a drinking problem the size of
- mars, and the other recently got
- himself killed.
- RYAN
- Let's go meet him.
- Darren points at a single barracks.
- DARREN
- After you, Ryan.
- Darren gives a forced grin to Ryan.
- The two go into a barracks. Muffled death metal blares inside
- it.
- A fighting ring is set up inside the barracks.
- A knocked out private is pulled out past the group. Another
- younger soldier holds another ones arm's up.
- IND SOLDIER
- We have a winner!
- The other soldiers cheer. The announcer gives the winning
- soldier a pat on the back.
- The winning soldier leaves.
- IND SOLDIER
- Up next! We have a new comer!
- The crowd boos at this. A disheveled and beat up Don comes
- in.
- RYAN
- What happened to him?
- DARREN
- They rigged the fight, beat him up
- the night before, but he thinks he
- can win.
- RYAN
- I like his optimism.
- IND SOLDIER
- Specialist Paulsen VERSUS! Our
- Curbstomper Specialist WILSON!
- Cheering rings out among the other soldiers. Don flips off
- the soldiers around him.
- IND SOLDIER
- Now, LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!
- Cheering breaks out among the soldiers.
- Darren massages his eyes.
- Ryan's face carries a neutral expression.
- DARREN
- You want me to stop this?
- RYAN
- Go ahead, by the time the MPs get
- here they'll have already finished.
- DARREN
- Okay.
- Darren watches Wilson take a swing at Don. Don backs away and
- takes a swing of his own, hitting Wilson in the face.
- Wilson backs off. Ryan steps out of the room.
- EXT. DESERT MILITARY BASE - DAY
- Ryan steps out.
- DARREN
- Too much?
- RYAN
- Too crowded.
- Ryan takes out a pack of cigarettes and smokes one.
- A squad of MPs runs into the barracks. Don is dragged out, he
- looks beat up and bloody.
- Darren walks over to the MP.
- DARREN
- Staff Sergeant. This one.
- He points to Don. Parks nods.
- DARREN
- Come on, let's go talk to him.
- INT. INTERROGATION OBSERVATION ROOM - DAY
- A knocked out lays slumped against a chair.
- PARKS
- Should we send a medic for Paulsen?
- DARREN
- We'll be fine, Staff Sergeant.
- PARKS
- Yes, sir.
- An IFAK sits in front of him.
- Don wakes up.
- He carries a pained look. Don looks at the IFAK in front of
- him and opens it. He takes out a set of alcohol wipes and
- begins to clean his wounds. He walks over to the mirror and
- begins tending to his wounds.
- DARREN
- What do you think so far?
- Ryan reads through Don's file.
- RYAN
- You never mentioned his original
- intention of becoming a Green
- Beret.
- DARREN
- His drinking problem took more
- precedence in my mind.
- RYAN
- I'll take him. He's been around
- these parts before.
- DARREN
- That's his choice, you know that,
- right?
- RYAN
- He'll agree to it. Someone like
- him? He wants this.
- Ryan steps out.
- DARREN
- So be it.
- CUT TO:
- INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY
- Don continues to patch his face up.
- Darren comes in.
- DON
- Agency.
- DARREN
- Not at liberty to make any comments
- on any assumptions you or I have,
- Specialist.
- DON
- Yeah, whatever. What do you want?
- DARREN
- I know a thing or two about you,
- Specialist. You're a fighter.
- DON
- You might have the wrong person,
- Specialist Curbstomp is more your
- style then.
- Don goes back to the interrogation room and sits down.
- DON
- Kobel send you?
- DARREN
- Who?
- DON
- Don't worry about it. What are you
- proposing?
- DARREN
- A bump in pay, classified
- assignment. You still have your
- clearance from your operations in
- '09, so we won't have any problems
- with you.
- DON
- What unit? Delta? Rangers?
- DARREN
- SAS.
- Don laughs.
- DON
- Ah, you're desperate. Who died?
- DARREN
- That's none of your concern.
- DON
- Well with that being the case, I
- have one condition for all of this.
- DARREN
- Yeah?
- DON
- Get me a can of fucking coke from
- the officer's lounge.
- DARREN
- Deal.
- FADE TO:
- Don sips on a can of coca cola, his eyes closed as he enjoys
- it.
- FADE OUT.
