- An arrest warrant was issued Friday for a Hiller man who allegedly sold drugs that caused the death of a woman last year.
- Chaz Franklin Rankin, 27, of 6th Street was charged with drug delivery resulting in death.
- According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case, 48-year-old Jennifer K. Ward died from combined drug toxicity in her 204 South Main Street apartment in Point Marion Aug. 4. A toxicology report determined she ingested fentanyl, morphine, buprenorphine and Benadryl.
- Rankin reportedly told her husband, William V. Ward, to be careful and not use a whole bag because it was strong. He purchased 10 stamp bags of heroin from Rankin for $80, court documents said. Ward told police he snorted half a bag, and gave the rest to his wife, relaying it was strong and might be pure fentanyl.
- He said she snorted one stamp bag and later vomited, police said. That evening, they reportedly split half a bag. When he woke up in the night at about 2:30 or 3 a.m., he realized his wife had not moved and tried to wake her up.
- He realized her lips were blue and rushed to the neighbor’s for help, who called 911.
- Point Marion EMS attempted to revive the woman, but she had already died, according to court paperwork.
- Ward identified Rankin from a photo lineup, according to state police. He knew the man by only his first name, according to the affidavit.
