8.
9. [altdivbox=white, 10]This guide goes into detail on how to handle ban appeals.
10.
11. Please follow the steps below to ensure you understand the ban appeal system 100%!
12.
13.

14. Phase 1:
15.
16. Check the ban appeal reason and username. Sometimes people list the wrong username/character name but then the reason might give you more insight.
17. Do not in any way handle ban appeals of your friends.
18.
19. Phase 2:
20.
21. Look the ban up on the UCP and find the banning tester/admin.
22.
23. Phase 3:
24.
25. - Post the ban reason from the ban lookup in a [.code.] tag and quote the banning staff member.
26. - Add [STAFFNAME] behind the ban appeal topic title.
27. - If the ban is from admins+ move them to the appropriate section. If the ban is issued by a retired staff member or the server, move it to management.
28. Do not reply to other staff members their ban appeals, only handle your own.

46. It is imperative, that every Staff Member on LV:RP maintains, and preserves their accounts by ensuring their security is of an adequate level. Breached Staff Accounts will automatically result in an IP ban, across all boards so this guide is aimed to offer you appropriate advice on how to keep your accounts secure, and keep you in the game.
47.
48. Please read, and take the advice on board and show you have understood the advice given by responding with a R&U.
49.
50.
51. There is no such thing as a completely secured password. There are only passwords that are more and less secure. Passwords are the easiest, most effective and convenient way that the ‘bad guys’ can access your accounts.
52.
53. Most people don’t know the most common techniques for obtaining passwords, but several are explained, below:
54.
55.
56. Dictionary Attacks:
57.
58. There are some online tools that make cracking a password almost effortless. These free tools allow for dictionary attacks, which use common words to automatically fill in password fields until it finds the right one. So, do not use slang terms, dictionary words, words spelled backward, or common misspellings. Also, avoid easy to guess keyboard combos, such as lkjhg or qwerty.
59.
60. Simple Passwords:
61.
62. A couple of years ago, there was a massive breach, which exposed more than 32 million passwords. Approximately 1 percent of the victims were using 123456, and the most common password after that was 12345. Other common choices were abc123, qwerty and 111111.
63.
64. Cracking Security Questions:
65.
66. When you choose the “Forgot Password” option on websites, you are asked to answer questions to verify that you are who you say you are. Many people use the names of their kids, pets, spouses, or other easy to guess answers. Hackers can deduce these answers with only a little bit of research, such as accessing your social media account to find the name of your spouse. They then put that into the answer space and have access to your password.
67.
68. Social Engineering: Social engineering is the practice of manipulating others into doing certain actions or offering confidential information. This can be used by the bad guys to trick people into giving up their passwords.
69.
70. Reusing Passwords Across Several Sites:
71.
72. When a hacker gets access to just one of your passwords, they know that they can likely hack into your other accounts. Why? Because 31 percent of us use the same password for multiple sites. Not only can this lead to identity theft, it can also lead to a stranger accessing things such as your bank account.
73. I have confidence that we will develop a truly secure password at some point, but in the meantime, create the most secure password possible.
74.
75.
76. Tips for Making Your Password Safer
77.
78.
79.
Use different passwords for every account that you have.
80.
Log off each time if using a public device or if people are around who can see your password.
81.
Make sure that no one is watching you enter a password.
82.
Try not to enter passwords into public computers, such as at the library. These often have malware on them that steal passwords.
83.
Use security software and update it regularly.
84.
Do not give your password to anyone. Though you might trust them now, there is no guarantee that they will always have your best interest in mind.
85.
Avoid entering any password into a device when connected to an unsecured Wi-Fi connection, such as at a coffee shop or airport.
86.
Strong passwords are hard to guess but easy to remember. For instance, “I am happy to be 28!” could be 1am:)2b28!.
87.
Use a minimum of eight characters and mix up numbers, letters, and symbols in the password.
88.
Change all passwords periodically, and then avoid reusing them for a minimum of a year.
89.
Have fun with phrases such as “To be or not to be.” This could be 2borNot-2b.
90.
Check the strength of your password.
91.
92. Discord
93.
94. With regards to Discord, it is highly advised you secure your account using the two factor authorization feature, and keep a copy of your authority codes stored on your computer as a backup. Just like the above recommendations, avoid logging on Discord when using public computers/hotspots.
95.
96.
97. Should you have any concerns with regards to your security/account then please approach a member of Management at the earliest possible opportunity.
98.

167.
168. If you are reading this, then congratulations as you are apart of our Tester team. A Tester is a crucial rank within our Staff Team and acts as the backbone to our continued success and smooth operation of our services. As a member of this team, you are required to conduct your self in a professional manor at all times, in any situation no matter what. Everything you do or say as a Staff Member represents the entire team and the community.
169.
170. This handbook has been introduced to allow you to understand what the expectations of the Management are with regards to Testers, and a referral guide for you if ever stuck with your duties. Please remember, you are all volunteers, and you joined the Staff Team to give back to the community, but its very important you continue enjoying your role, it should never become stressful.
171.
172.

173. Section II - General Duties
174.

175.
176. As a Tester you will have several duties across the forums, in-game and on our User Control Panel. The term "Tester" originates from "Beta Testing" - individuals that were selected from the community to test a feature/script/forum for bugs and effectively find exploits in them to allow sufficient patches. So with that said the first role of a Tester is to participate in testing various new features that the Development team come up with, by this you will be required to log on our test server, details of which get announced prior to a session commencing. It is important that you use the following format when testing. "Staffname_Test" for example, "Eren_Test".
177.
178. Your duties: (But not limited to)
179.
180. - Handling Miscellaneous ban appeals, Discord, Teamspeak and Signature bans.
181. - Moving ban appeals to the correct admins section.
182. - Handling all in-game help requests in a timely fashion.
183. - Monitoring the Discord support channel and assisting players with their queries.
184. - Handling character applications on the UCP. (Please refer to the subsection below.)
185. - Maintaining professional standards on all boards and ingame, reporting those that maliciously and carelessly break the rules.
186. - Beta testing new features and scripts.
187. - Exploring and investigating bug reports and assisting the Development Team with their enquiries.
188.
189.

190. Section III - Authority and Responsibility
191.

192.
193. As tester you have the authority to rule out what is right and what is wrong when it comes to Roleplay scenes but you are not authorised to change the roleplay scene into something different such as, you don't feel like the player is roleplaying correctly, powergaming, etc. You are still required to request an administrator in Tester Chat should you spot a rulebreaker.
194.
195. As tester, you are responsible to answer player's questions, participate in Testers Board discussions, bug-test new features before they go live and so on. As Tester, you may be given additional tasks to commit such as, you may be tasked to moderate the forum boards, moderate the Discord, focus on handling UCP Applications, assigned to be Faction Management Member, all of these additional tasks come with a level of authority and a high level of responsibility that you must uphold. Generally a Testers authority on the forums exceeds the level of authority in-game.
196.
197.

198. Section IV - Handling UCP Applications
199.

200.
201. Handling UCP Applications is crucial to the server's survival because you control who is and who isn't let into the server. Ben Parker from Spiderman said, "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility". The same is true with controlling the flow of players that are allowed into Las Venturas Roleplay. You not only have the power to accept and deny applications but you have the responsibility to uphold the standards of our server when handling applications.
202.
203. When an application comes through to the waiting list, we give the players an estimated waiting time of upto 4 hours. Ideally, we would like the application to be processed almost immediately so it is imperceptive you keep close observations on the UCP and handle the applications as promptly and effectively as possible.
204.
205. Please not that Testers can not handle their own applications, or applications of their friends. Please leave those applications for other staff members to handle to avoid allegations of being bias and unfair.
206.
207. Step by step guide to handling UCP Applications:
208.
209. 1. Check the name applied for, is it famous? - Is it likely to insult anyone? - If so deny the application, if not then proceed to step 2.
210.
211. 2. Check for connected IP addresses, any links to banned IP's? If so ban the application, if not proceed to step 3.
212.
213. 3. Background story of a character application is the most important section, this defines the character and shows what sort of character they may be roleplaying, however in this section it is your responsibility to ensure an adequate background story is provided, and appropriate levels of English and grammar, minor spelling/grammar mistakes are allowed, however if the levels of English are poor throughout then please deny the application (continue to step 4 none the less, so you can also grade the theory questions to give the applicant one big denial reason if those are wrong too.), If it meets requirements then proceed to step 4.
214.
215. 4. Check the theory questions and the definitions we ask them to answer, ensure that the answers are not copy and pasted from our rules section, If they're clearly copy and pasted deny the application, If the answers are correct and answered in their own words then proceed to step 5.
216.
217. 5. Accepting or Denying the application. It is imperative that if we deny an application that we provide a precise and accurate reason as to why, as such I have come up with the following two proforma's for you to use when providing the rational for Accepting or Denying an application.
218.
219. Accepting an Application:
220.

267. Please follow the steps below to ensure you understand the application system 100%!
268.
269.

270. Phase 1:
271.
272. You open the outstanding character applications list. You always select the most top one because this is the one that has been waiting the longest.
273. Do not in any way handle applications of your friends or your own applications.
274.
275. [altspoiler=application list][/altspoiler]
276.
277. Phase 2:
278.
279. You chosen an application to handle, the next window pops up.
280.
281. [altspoiler=Application][/altspoiler]
282.
283. Step 1: Click on the IP to see if it is linked to any banned usernames (99% of the time the banned users show up below by step 2). You get to see the window which is shown in "IP Lookup" spoiler. All logins to the UCP and server are saved by user and IP, so anyone who has ever been connected with the lookup IP will show up here.
284.
285. Step 2: Direct linked (99% of the times by IP) banned users will show up here. Clicking their name brings you directly to the Ban Lookup as shown in the "Ban Lookup" spoiler.
286.
287. Step 3: Check the applications information.
288.

Is the name realistic? Is the name not famous?
289.
Is the place of origin realistic and not some troll answer?
290.
Is the background story atleast 2 paragraphs written in correct English? (Of course we get native speakers, so you don't have to play the English teacher, some grammar and spelling mistakes are acceptable.)
291. If any of the points above are missing, you are to deny the application, however continue to the other steps to make sure you have checked the entire application and give one big denial reason in the end. This way our applicants can edit their entire application instead of piece by piece and getting denied over and over.
292.
293. Step 4: Check question 1's answers.
294.

Is the scam limit mentioned?
295.
Is the no rob limit mentioned?
296.
Is the allowed items limit (no limit) mentioned?
297.
Are the safezones mentioned (listed, and what happens if a crime goes into a safezone)?
298.
Are the loaning and illegal gambling rules mentioned?
299.
Is killing after a robbery mentioned?
300. If someone is missing more than 1 of the above, deny their application. Same applies as by step 3. Continue the application.
301.
302.
303. Step 5: Check question 2's answers.
304.

Is there described what disgusting RP is?
305.
Is the OOC permissions regulations mentioned?
306.
Is there mentioned the OOC permissions can be revoked at any time?
307.
Is there mentioned it needs to be RPd away from the public?
308. If someone is missing more than 1 of the above, deny their application. Same applies as by step 4. Continue the application.
309.
310.
311. Step 6: Check question 3's answers.
312.

Use common sense here, if the examples are way too easy for a heavy RP server feel free to deny it.
313.
314. Step 7: Use the format's in the Tester Handbook for your decision ruling. Make sure you give them a complete list of missing parts if you deny the applicant.
315.
316. If the application is copied from the internet or copied stuff straight from the server rules, deny them and clearly mention Plagiarism Warning x/3 (check previous apps to see if they have been warned for it before). If your warning is the third, ban them.
317.
318. Only use the BAN button if they are ban evading (see Ban Evading Spoiler).

330.

Check the email addresses of the banned account and the suspected ban evader. (People often use a similar email)
331.
Check the skins used on the banned users characters and the suspected ban evaders characters.
332.
Check the amount of linked IP's, if it is just 1, its unlikely, if it are multiple then its more likely.
333.
Check the suspected ban evaders application and compare the spelling and answers with the one from the banned user.

352.
353. The Staff Taskings Board has been created to allow members of the Staff Team to volunteer for tasks that need completing. The tasks set within this board are tasks that the Management and Lead Administration require to allow the smooth operating of the server, so it is fundamental for these tasks to be complete.
354.
355. While doing tasks remains non-compulsory, we strongly advise you do get involved if you wish to retain your role in the staff team, and / or progress within the rank structure.
356.
357. In order to take on a task found below, please respond to the thread with the following format and you will be assigned the task. Please note some tasks will allow more then one person, so please work together on those.
358.
359. Please check regularly as new tasks can be added at any time.

416.

417. [divbox=white]In this thread, you can find out how to become an Official Faction on LVRP. There are different rules and privileges in addition to those people who are inside an Official Faction.
418. An unofficial faction could gain the official status after three (3) months since its creation. The system is not mechanical and doesn't necessarily mean that a faction will achieve an official status automatically after the time has passed. Faction activity and dedication are essential in becoming official.[/divbox]
