  3. A common pleco might be territorial, but it should ignore tank mates if fed and kept properly. If not, this is when it could attack other fish for slimecoats and become more stressed. It can eventually reach about a foot (and some cases say larger), so it is not an ideal long term companion to keep with a betta. When the pleco is a young fish, it could be kept as it grows out then eventually upgraded through grow out tanks. When it's larger, it usually leaves smaller tank mates alone and is not known to eat smaller fish. Parameter wise, these two are compatible with a temperature in the 78-82F range with a stable pH between 6.0-8.0ppm. For tank size, a common pleco can be grown out in a series of tanks, but to keep these two together in a final home, a 125g standard tank is recommended.
