- SPEEDRUNNING
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- I mostly speedrun older (i.e. 21st century) games.
- At the moment I get more enjoyment out of routing & glitch hunting, so any
- speedrun projects I do in the near future will probably be more to this end than
- grinding out optimized runs.
- In other words, I'm bad at video games but I'd like to help people who are good
- at video games go really fast???
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- NES COMPLETION PROJECT
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- http://bit.ly/2rAP0Q9 - Google Doc showing my current progress.
- I begun this a few years ago, inspired by TheMexicanRunner's NESMania. At first
- this was an informal checklist for my own amusement & to get through my massive
- backlog, but as my game count racked up I decided to make it public.
- The remaining games are all pretty difficult so hopefully I will one day finish
- and maybe even move on to another console.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- GAME DOCUMENTATION
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- This idea for a "project" is new and kind of vague, but the main goal of it is to
- write up and/or disseminate information for obscure games that are currently
- lacking it, and hopefully find a niche for my YouTube channel in the process.
- I've been pretty obsessed with trying to find a way to discover & bring attention
- to interesting and obscure games I've found.
- The way I used to do this was to play through it once and call it a "speedrun",
- but this isn't very helpful to anyone.
- Instead, I'd like to comprehensively go through the full list of games for each
- console and do research into each game and whether or not a sufficient amount of
- information exists on it yet.
- Basically, I want to have a general method of going over every possible game
- with a fine-tooth comb rather than the random methods of discovering new games
- I've been using up until now.
- My method would be as follows:
- - Go to MobyGames and browse the full game list for a particular console
- - For each game, see what kind of information & videos exist for it already
- - If any significant gaps exist, work to the best of my ability to fill them.
- If the game is too hard for me to figure out (e.g. lots of untranslated text),
- I will add it to an appropriate to-do list which I will share publicly for
- anyone who wants to tackle it in the future.
- I think that I would consider a game sufficiently "documented" if all of the
- following is available for it:
- - Full playthrough on YouTube (since this is for informational purposes rather
- than proof of accomplishment, this can be a tool-assisted "longplay" which
- attempts to show as much of the game's content as possible.)
- - A comprehensive MobyGames entry
- - An English Wikipedia article
- - (if not in English) A translation hack
- - (if appropriate) A speedrun leaderboard + one optimized run
- I'm also thinking that, with all of the odd games I discover in this manner,
- I might also try making a video series where I review some of these games in
- short (e.g. a weekly 10 minute video where I spend 1 minute each giving a fast
- summary of 10 total games).
