  13. on/stream whatever I feel like at the moment.)

  19. SPEEDRUNNING
  20. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  21. I mostly speedrun older (i.e. 21st century) games.
  22. At the moment I get more enjoyment out of routing & glitch hunting, so any
  23. speedrun projects I do in the near future will probably be more to this end than
  24. grinding out optimized runs.
  25. In other words, I'm bad at video games but I'd like to help people who are good
  26. at video games go really fast???
  27. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  28. NES COMPLETION PROJECT
  29. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  30. http://bit.ly/2rAP0Q9 - Google Doc showing my current progress.
  31. I begun this a few years ago, inspired by TheMexicanRunner's NESMania. At first
  32. this was an informal checklist for my own amusement & to get through my massive
  33. backlog, but as my game count racked up I decided to make it public.
  34. The remaining games are all pretty difficult so hopefully I will one day finish
  35. and maybe even move on to another console.
  36. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  37. GAME DOCUMENTATION
  38. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  39. This idea for a "project" is new and kind of vague, but the main goal of it is to
  40. write up and/or disseminate information for obscure games that are currently
  41. lacking it, and hopefully find a niche for my YouTube channel in the process.
  42. I've been pretty obsessed with trying to find a way to discover & bring attention
  43. to interesting and obscure games I've found.
  44. The way I used to do this was to play through it once and call it a "speedrun",
  45. but this isn't very helpful to anyone.
  46. Instead, I'd like to comprehensively go through the full list of games for each
  47. console and do research into each game and whether or not a sufficient amount of
  48. information exists on it yet.
  49. Basically, I want to have a general method of going over every possible game
  50. with a fine-tooth comb rather than the random methods of discovering new games
  51. I've been using up until now.
  52. My method would be as follows:
  53. - Go to MobyGames and browse the full game list for a particular console
  54. - For each game, see what kind of information & videos exist for it already
  55. - If any significant gaps exist, work to the best of my ability to fill them.
  56. If the game is too hard for me to figure out (e.g. lots of untranslated text),
  57. I will add it to an appropriate to-do list which I will share publicly for
  58. anyone who wants to tackle it in the future.
  59. I think that I would consider a game sufficiently "documented" if all of the
  60. following is available for it:
  61. - Full playthrough on YouTube (since this is for informational purposes rather
  62. than proof of accomplishment, this can be a tool-assisted "longplay" which
  63. attempts to show as much of the game's content as possible.)
  64. - A comprehensive MobyGames entry
  65. - An English Wikipedia article
  66. - (if not in English) A translation hack
  67. - (if appropriate) A speedrun leaderboard + one optimized run
  68.
  69. I'm also thinking that, with all of the odd games I discover in this manner,
  70. I might also try making a video series where I review some of these games in
  71. short (e.g. a weekly 10 minute video where I spend 1 minute each giving a fast
  72. summary of 10 total games).
