  3. --------------
  4. So thanks to a slow work day, I finished another Dadgore AU green. Hope you all enjoy!
  5. >”C’mon Chief, you’re running yourself ragged here!” Officer Undyne pleaded
  6. >”It’s true…boss.” Officer Napstablook chimed in, “You haven’t slept in at least…three days.”
  7. >”I appreciate the concern but I just need some coffee.” Asgore gruffly responded. “Once I get used to the new schedule then it’ll be easy peasy. Now where’s that darn coffee pot.”
  8. >”You’re holding it Chief. This is what I’m talking about! You need to get a sitter or something! Or at least reduce your hours!” Undyne was at her wits end! Since when was he so stubborn?!
  9. >”Can’t. Sitters are too expensive and I need the extra money.” came the tired reply.
  10. >”...I could do it.”
  11. >”I get your worried for your kid but what’s he going to do if you keel over?!”
  12. >”I’m not going to keel over! It’ll take more than sleep deprivation to put me down.”
  13. >”You’re barely standing as is!”
  14. >”I said…I could do it.”
  15. >”It’s FINE! Rudy and the Holidays should be back from vacation next week and can watch Kris then.”
  16. >”YOU WON’T LAST THE REST OF THE DAY! LET ALONE A WEEK!”
  17. >FWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET
  18. >Both pairs of eyes turned to look at Napstablook who had just blown their whistle.
  19. >”I can do it.” He replied to their surprised stares. “My shift is over anyway…as long as you don’t mind me working on my music…then I can watch him…”
  20. >”Hey yea!” Undyne’s eyes lit up, “We can shift the schedule around a bit, that way we’ve got coverage for the station and your kid!”
  21. >”I’m not sure…” Asgore was hesitant. His subordinates were good officers but dealing with kids? Let alone one as unique as his. Needless to say the goat had doubts.
  22. >Undyne could be a bit reckless and hot-headed, but he did know that her heart was in the right place. Maybe some of that brashness could help Kris out of his shell.
  23. -
  24. >Blook was almost the opposite of Undyne in every way (even corporealness) but he had to admit the ghost was creative. Before everything happened Kris had been learning piano. He seemed to enjoy it and Blook definitely fancied himself a musician. Perhaps they could bond over that?
  25. >As he turned the idea over more in his head he began to like it. Maybe it was the sleep deprivation talking, but this felt like it was worth the risk.
  26. >”Alright, alright.” Asgore began, interrupting them. “Blook can watch him today after school. We’ll head over together so Kris doesn't get any bad ideas. We can go over the rules briefly back at my place and then I’ll head back to the station.”
  27. >”Yea and you’re getting some shut-eye once you do! I can handle whatever pops-up today.” Undyne added with her usual wide-grin.
  28. Later that day
  29. >Napstablook was pretty sure he was doing ok.
  30. >Kris definitely didn’t want Asgore to go back to work, and definitely wasn’t too thrilled with interacting with a ghost, but he eventually calmed down.
  31. >Blook made sure Kris had his lunch and dutifully did his homework. Afterwards the kid just went into his room to read (with the door open so they could keep an eye on him).
  32. >The ghost finally was able to conjure his headphones and notepad and began to work on some tunes.
  33. >Unbeknownst to them, Kris had peaked out from his room to observe the spector.
  34. >Creeping up as sneakily as he could, Kris looked at what they were writing. He wasn’t expecting to see music notes!
  35. >He tried to get the ghosts attention but his hand went right through them. He looked at his hand and tried a few more times with no luck.
  36. >Mercifully, Napstablook finally exited the zone and was about to check on Kris. Looking down they watched as the young human frantically waved both hands in the lower half of their shade.
  37. >”Hey…little man…did you want something?” Blook drolled in his usual tone.
  38. -
  39. >Kris took a half-step back in surprise before nodding frantically and pointing at their notepad.
  40. >”Oh…you like music too?”
  41. >Another series of frantic nods. If he kept it up then those horns would fly off his head!
  42. >”You can listen…if you like…”
  43. >Kris was already reaching for the head phones with a wide grin.
  44. >With a thought they moved the headphones from their head to his. Kris practically had stars in his eyes at the display.
  45. >As the music began his smile slowly gave way into thoughtfulness.
  46. >After a few minutes Kris pointed at the notepad.
  47. >Wordlessly Blook moved it over and Kris began to write.
  48. >Blook couldn’t help but look over the kids shoulder.
  49. >”Hey…that’s not bad…maybe next time I can bring over my laptop…then we can try it out…”
  50. >If a smile could light up a room then Kris’ could’ve powered the eastern seaboard.
  51. >They spent the next few hours until bedtime going over other tracks that Napstablook had made, with Kris adding notes all the while.
  52. The next day…
  53. >”Thanks again Blooks.” Asgore smiled at the ghost. “I really appreciate it. Kris seemed like he had a lot of fun too. He wanted me to give you this.”
  54. >Asgore held out a little homemade card. Inside was Kris and Napstablook listening to music with a little note. It read ‘Having fun with Uncle Blooky’
  55. >Blook had it framed that day. It’s been on his desk ever since.

  60. Here's the next chunk in the Dadgore AU. This time we're following Undyne watching Kris.
  61. >'This was going to be a piece of cake'
  62. >Or at least, that's what Undyne had thought.
  63. >Blook had bonded with the kid after one day, but here she was a few weeks later with no luck.
  64. >Why was this so hard? She's awesome!
  65. >No matter what she tried though he would just run back to his room and hide. Today was going to be different damnit!
  66. >She looked up a bunch of different things that kids did for fun and they were going to do EVERY. SINGLE. ONE!
  67. >Well she would, if she could find him.
  68. >Maybe starting with hide and seek was a bad idea.
  69. >Little guy was crafty, she'd give him that.
  70. >She must've looked through the whole house three times over the course of an hour.
  71. >She eventually found him wedged in a corner on top of the fridge. He was just sitting up there, happy as could be, writing down little music notes. If anything he was less upset that he lost and more upset that she interrupted him.
  72. >She was surprised to see that he didn't immediately try to run to his room. He made some gestures at her then showed an alarm he set for two minutes and faced a wall.
  73. >"Oh you want a turn eh? Finally gave up avoiding me and want to have some fun?"
  74. >Kris didn't respond and merely shook the phone a little. Just enough to remind her the clock was ticking.
  75. -
  76. >Thinking quickly, she tore out of the room. Her first idea was the classic 'hide under laundry' spot. Until she remembered that this was her boss's house and that could get awkward fast. As she pondered what the right play would be, the alarm went off.
  77. >In a panic she opened the closest room and dove in.
  78. >She pressed up against the wall so the door would block her if Kris came in to investigate.
  79. >Moments later he does. The door creaks open slightly and she sees his head pop in, do a brief scan, then retreat.
  80. >As the door closes she can hear the sound of his small steps scurrying back down the hall.
  81. >Ha HA! Her gamble had paid off! Now she’ll just wait in front of the door to scare him when he comes back to check again!
  82. >’Just need to find the light switch and oh wow that is a huge bed!’ After turning on the lights she spied what must’ve easily been a California King. ‘Wait so this means…’
  83. >Oh no. She was in the chief's bedroom! That was so inappropriate! If he found out he would be in so much…wait is that a picture of her and Blooky?
  84. >The fearsome fish approached Asgore’s night stand to investigate.
  85. >Sitting upon it was a framed photo of the three of them celebrating Blooks promotion to a full fledged officer.
  86. >’Aw that’s kinda sweet.’ it wasn’t a secret that Asgore was a big softy but she never really put together how much he must care about them beyond being coworkers.
  87. >She probably shouldn’t snoop too much, lest Kris comes back and finds her.
  88. >So she set up in front of the door, ready to scare, and waited.
  89. >And waited.
  90. >And waited.
  91. >’Ok seriously what is taking him so long!’
  92. >Giving up, she stealthily exited Asgore’s room and began to look for Kris.
  93. >’Thought he wanted me to hide this round’ she thought ruefully.
  94. >Eventually she found him, sitting in his room with his little notebook and a chocolate bar.
  95. >”Oh you little sneak!” She shouted.
  96. -
  97. >Kris merely looked up at her, gave a shooing gesture, and turned away from her.
  98. >It took everything she had not to scream at him. That’s not to say she didn’t scream. She definitely roared incoherently and stomped around the living room before finally dropping to the floor.
  99. >She had to clear her head, re-strategize, and come at this from a new angle.
  100. >Doing something physical always helped and the couch looked like a good weight to get some light work in with.
  101. >Wordlessly she lays on her back and starts bench pressing the large sofa. Lost in her thoughts, she doesn’t notice Kris peek out at what she’s doing.
  102. >She also doesn’t notice his quiet approach.
  103. >Or him dragging a chair over.
  104. >Or that he jumped on the sofa and was now bouncing around every time she did a rep.
  105. >What she did notice was the quiet raspy laughter emanating from above her.
  106. >Confused, she started to lower the sofa, at least until a certain human face popped over the edge in her vision looking grumpy.
  107. >”Oh NOW you want to hang out with me?” she attempts to admonish him.
  108. >Kris just nodded unashamed.
  109. >”Alright then.” Undyne wore a sinister grin. “Hold on then while I shift into MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE! HYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!”
  110. >Kris held on for dear life, laughing all the way, as Undyne used her freakish strength to bench that couch as fast as possible.
  111. >While the weight wasn’t much, the speed definitely started to tire her out. Eventually she had to put the sofa back down. “Whew, alright kid. Finally had some fun with yer Auntie Undyne eh?”
  112. >Kris managed a woozy nod before puking on the floor.
  113. >Just in time for Asgore to walk through the door.
  114. -
  115. >Before he could say anything, Kris managed to stumble over to his father and tug on his shirt.
  116. >Asgore picked him up and the boy whispered something in his ear. “Hmmm I see. Undyne, would you mind cleaning that up while I clean him up?”
  117. >Undyne snapped off a quick salute before dutifully getting the cleaning supplies.
  118. >Asgore cleaned up Kris while Undyne cleaned up his mess. Afterwards Asgore put Kris to bed and closed his door before turning to his subordinate.
  119. >”Am I right in saying that you finally got his attention and then went overboard?”
  120. >Undyne replied with a meek “Yes, sir. I get it if you don’t want me watching him anymore.”
  121. >”What? Why do you think that? As far as I can tell nothing's broken and he only vomited once. I think it’s safe to say that this has gone a lot better than your previous attempts. He really likes you!” The old goat chuckled, despite being a bit confused.
  122. >”If you’re sure sir.” She definitely wasn’t convinced.
  123. >“Tell you what, if you still think that you’re not fit for this, stop by here during your morning jog. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.”
  124. >”If you say so, sir.”
  125. The following morning…
  126. >Undyne had stopped by Asgore’s house as he requested. The sun was just poking up when she arrived.
  127. >As she watched the sun start to rise, she heard the pitter patter of Kris’ tiny feet followed by Asgore’s occasional heavier stomp.
  128. >Turning back to face the pair she noticed Kris wasn’t in his usual turtleneck. He was in a blue muscle shirt, red shorts, blue running shoes, with a decent sized red scarf covering his neck.
  129. >”If it’s not too much trouble Undyne, this little troublemaker would love to join you on your morning routine.”
  130. >Kris, for his part, was already smiling and bouncing in place.
  131. -
  132. >”Well I don’t know.” Undyne pretended to hem and haw though internally the decision was made the moment she saw his outfit.”If he’s really serious about it I suppose…”
  133. >Kris attempted to mimic the salute he saw her do the previous evening.
  134. >Undyne had to turn away to keep up the facade. ‘He’s so CUUUUUTE!’
  135. >”Ehem, yes well. In that case you’re going to be my cadet. That means you have to do what I say, when I say it! Understood?”
  136. >Another sloppy salute. She’d have to work on that.
  137. >”Well then, let’s get going!”
  138. >With a quick glance to Asgore, who just waved her off, they got started at a leisurely pace.
  139. >Kris did his best to keep up but he wasn’t the most outdoorsy child.
  140. >She could work on that later though. For now she just picked him piggyback style and got up to her usual speed, Kris laughing all the way.
  141. And that's all for now! Next up is more than likely to be a bit of a timeskip to when Kris first meets Susie.
