  9. Domperidone Description:
  10. Domperidone belongs to the group of medications called dopamine antagonists. It is used to treat slowed movement in the gastrointestinal tract associated with diabetes and gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining). For these people, domperidone improves symptoms of nausea, vomiting, bloating, and feeling of fullness.
  11.
  12. Domperidone is also used to prevent stomach problems such as nausea and vomiting associated with certain medications used to treat Parkinson's disease. It works to improve symptoms by helping the stomach to empty more quickly and to reduce nausea.

  28. Use of domperidone:
  29.
  30. Increased rate of gastric emptying
  31. The active ingredient in Domperidone is domperidone. Domperidone works by tightening the muscles at the entry to the stomach and relaxing the muscles at the exit of the stomach. These actions speed up the passage of food through the stomach into the intestine, which physically helps prevent vomiting and reduces feelings of sickness.
  32.
  33. Control of the vomiting reflex
  34. Domperidone also blocks or reduces stimulation in an area of the brain known as the vomiting centre by suppressing nerve messages from the gut or preventing them from being sent. This reduces the sensation of nausea and prevents vomiting.
  35.
  36. Domperidone is available in tablet, suspension and suppository form. Domperidone tablets only take 15 to 30 minutes to take effect and their effect will wear off after six to eight hours. Domperidone suppositories provide relief in just one to two hours.
  37.
  38. How to use Domperidone?
  39.
  40. For nausea, one Domperidone tablet should be taken orally and swallowed whole with some water, preferably before meals. For migraine, one tablet should be taken as soon as you feel an attack coming on. If you are vomiting, we recommend using Domperidone suppositories.
  41.
